Honestly Humanity has been pretty arrogant. Took 100s of years before we recognised birds use tools. Mainly because everytime it was seen. Some other excuse was seen for why the bird was sticking a stick into a tree. Science was so sure mankind was unique it was unwilling to see reality.

But honestly if you think that is bad. Do some research into why European explorers thought Europe represented the most advanced civilisation. African cities raised to the ground rather then face the idea they may have been their before us.

while still paying less then the commercial OSes. That have been the victims of the vast majority of attacks and cost to corps using them.

Its not like other OSes are attack free. Not requiring qualified engineers to keep them protected.

That said. Ubuntu and their snap store are asking for trouble .

Snuck. What a load of click bait shit.

How the hell is Dell openly choosing to sell stuff to linux user. In any way shape or form snuck.

Accept blue origin is an independent company owned by bozo not amazon. So whe amazon fails to consider other options. They are failing to protect the amazon company.

Bozo is basically using one company to support another, at the cost of the 1st company. When the 2 companies are independent. That definatly is a valid reason for investors to question his responsibility to them.

You example would be more like complaining because the casino has magnets on the rulelet wheel.

In Europe. The abolitionistmovement started not long after slavery. Most of of the newspapers in England had articles portraying slavery as a positive pleasant enviroment. Purely to try and remove the political power of the abolitionist movement.

Not much has changed really.

Sorta why the FSF was formed.

Because thses lucences working effects folks other then yourself.

So best for all OS developers and users to work together.

OK elon is a prick. No one sane can disagree with that. ;)

But I really worry about anyone who feels, the fertility rate of Elons staff. Is in anyway something Elon should be concerned about.

Yep, that was my thought. Even without OS. It would only work for compiled browsers built within the legal jurisdiction of France. Anyone else would have 0 motive to obey them. And French people would just download non-French browsers.

Makes it very clear the proposer knows less than 0 about how the Internet works. And has spent even less effort thinking about it. Has he somehow not thought china would have done this, if it was in any way effective?

Given tory voters spent most of the 80s and 90s. Arguing that poor people should.d not have children if they cannot afford it.

The whole idea that not doing so is selfish. Shows how freaking arrogant the right wing always are,

It could be inherited from a common ancestor.

Or it could just have likely evolved multiple times in different primate branches.

As we have absolutely no way to document how early it first happened in our own branch. To assume it is linked is just more attempts to try and indicate the human branch is special. Use of tools has been seen in many many branches. We don't assume that came from a joint ancestor that crawled out of the water. Or before.

OK so this sounds like you are surprised. That most people upset haven't done something a relatively small % of the public have done.

And I am unsure why you think the point has any value. Political candidates represent a tiny % of the population. If each one had hundreds of people working with them. It would still be a tiny % of society..

Add to that that the vast majority of society actually has a life they need to work earn raise families. Honestly the largest percentage of society just dose not have the time or energy to protest or take part in politics.

They still have a right to complain that the people they are paying to do the job. To do it to a standard or in a way they don't like.

Have you ever milked a cow. Do you still feel annoyed and complain when someone sells you off milk.

Lets remember the fanta story.

Coke never left Germany even when the US finally joined the 2nd World War. The traded as fanta to avoid losing sales as an American brand. Once the German people felt they had reason to distrust the US.

Remember this company has a history of refusing to take sides.

Really want to know what the employer said.

I can see "f off elon" resulting in elon suspending their twitter account. But any other answer past. "What the hell are you telling us for". Is unforgivable.

As much as I love any option to wind up transphobes.

This in no way indicates the skeleton lived a trans life. Just that the roles of men and women were not as defined as modern historians have claimed.

This is more a critisism of common era historians for assu.ing any body found with tools they think relate to male roles. And assuming pre history also only expected men to carry swords etc.

While it is entirely possible that this lady. And probable that some others. Lived as a man. Their is no evidence to support this over the idea that living ad a woman was not as restrictive as cultures expect today. Pre 5k years ago. We really have no way to know. Other then to use modern science to I'd many past bone examined. And assumed by biased historians.

Mainly software vendors.

The fact that you can build a package with all dependences built in etc. Means software vendors can release a product for Linux. Without worring about all the different versions of library's out there.

This is useful for os when trying to support less common distress. As you are not rellying on the distro to package everything. Then destros that wish to may compile more efficient versions based on there own dependencies can. But other distros are supported if they do not want to compile. Without your team having to compile for every distress.

But it also allows commercial closed source vendors to package once and know every linux system (on the hardware they choose to support) will have the dependencies expected. No matter the distro choice or other software requirements. Removing the issue with supporting every distress. As this is a common reason commercial software avoids Linux. As 100s of different distress divided between a relatively small customer base. Means support is often not cost effective.

One side will claim the other did. And respond.

We all know what way around it will be.

But will see debates about weather or not the evidence of it being broken is real.

EDIT: honestly trying to avoid takibg sides. As niether are entirly innocent.

But fuck I am getting fed up with all sides claiming any support for the other is racist.

We have to much fucking racism to allow governemts to pull it out as a properganda move\weapon of war. While ignoring the actual actions.

What anyone chooses to spend their money on. Is none of my business.

How they earn it and what share of taxation they face, really is the only debate any of us should feel entitled to.

Not a very valid point.

Every nation complains about its leaders. Some are still bigger shit heads then others.

Simple fact is human beings are more likely to comment on issues then note boring reliability. It still in no way effects the cross nation comparison.

The best of nations in anything has a right and even need to look for better. That is afterall how progress works.

But you need clear comparisons and data to accusse those complaints of properganda.

Of course based on that definition. Fiat currency is the same. Just without the complex number.

I am really not a huge fan of crypto. But honestly all modern (post gold standard) money. Is entirly based on users confidence in the nations backing it. The proof of work used for bit coin. Really is no more a matter of faith in folks dumb enough to buy it from you later.

Honestly what we have now is AI. As in it is not intelligent just trys to mimic it.

Digital Intelegence if we ever achive it would be a more accurate name.

Hmm not so sure.

Hear me out. I am not actually saying it is alians. Just questioning that it is not is the logical conclusion of occams razer.

First remember we have 0 idea atm. So occams assumes the simplist explanation is correct.

But over the past couple of decades. The number of planets we have identified has grown hugly.

We only recently gained the ability to detect anything earth sized. But hav already found several.

Evidence is indication that the number of potential planets that are capable of housing life is far from low. Even if we are taking one in a million planets able. Most scientists interested in the field now agree life existing somewhere is more likely then earth being unique for some reason.

So complexity wise. Other life having evolved and developed radio. Is no more complex then some unknown answer. In fact the idea that it is impossible to be alian life is more complex then the idea that it is possible.

Once we have more information. Things will likely change quickly. And I lack the optimism to claim its likely alians.

But occams razer wise. We have evidence of life creating radio waves and transmitting them into space. As we do it a lot. Where as some totally unknown thing we have never seen up to now is a little more complex as a solution.

If you make it a policy for your corp. You will screw anyone with visual impairment.

We are totally unable to see the detail in these shitty little pics. So would be unable to use them as a password.

Fine if uou want to use them. And software should start supporting it. But please dont push corps to screw over disabled. Its hard enough dealing with them already. Nearly every big company forgets vision or hearing impairment when trying to manage customers and staff.

Actually that brings up an interesting comparison. In Victorian england it was common for gentlemen to have art of naked faeries. Because having naked human women was morally unacceptable. Whereas faeries not so much.

Makes you wonder if rural American men find remembering an alien anal probe. As more morally acceptable to their mindset. Than bob next door getting intimate with them.

Yep even mid range ones did so way back in the early 90s. It was a common fairly cheap feature that used rs232 mostly. In those days non unix systems did not care as much if powered down without warning. So us early (me 1996) Linux users really found it useful to have the ups initiate shutdown before it died. Windows users of the time only tended to worry if they had the PC running when not sat their. Few had internet at home in the early 90s and those that did were dil up. So for many it was not worth the cost when you could just turn off the PC if a power cut was long term.

Now with most people using laptops for casual use. I really cant imagin anyone buying one without the feature.

The big difference here. Someone who has held the highest position in the US. Still believes he has no legal limits when it comes to his actions on US citizens.

And is attempting to get voted in on promises based on that idea.

"If the president dose it. Its not illegal"

Depends what nation you are in and how you obtained it.

Anyone can release software under any licence. As long as they are not breaking the licence they release under. Or the licence they use any 3rd party code is under

I do not think GPL has any rules about claims. Just actual actions. But if they released in under another licence. Then it is possible. (But unlikely). The licence has such rules.

So in most cases. Actual actions or lack of rather then claims. Based on the licence is your only option. And that would mean contact he authors of any included code. Or FSF etc.

Some nations have advertising rules. Depending on how and where it was obtained you may be able to contact their advertising standards association equiv.

But providng for free can often weaken this. Although it is likely far from an absolute excuse to false advertising.

True.

At least in poverty stricken nations. Oh and the US. But most of the rest of the world is a little different.

Sure in the early days of developments wealth helps in all nations. But it just tends to be a matter of time before new medical tech makes it to all the population in most 1st world nations.

The US is really pretty unique being one of the wealthiest nations but not having universal health care.

The guy who tries teasing horses for handjobs.

errk first id heard that one.

I now have the image n my head, of a horse giving a hand job.

I am not grateful.

News articles were published about the boat.

How ever much we may dislike it. Media is a capitalist business. As such its obvious that 100s of people are dead. Is going to end its coverage quicker then are 5 people dead yet. Its hard to publish extra stuff when the answers are known. Speculation will always be more profitable.

I sorta agree.

Unfortunately modern science is slow to change ideas it has accepted in the past.

Neil Degrass Tyson did an interesting talk on the % of religion in science. Based in the US. And it basically indicated that the higher you get. The lower the odds you belie in religiose ideals.

But the levels were pretty high until the top. And still not 0 then.

I personally think (opinion not fact) this has left us with a community. That hesitates to challenge science on religion alone. IE we don't see ideas thrown out when it is clear religion was involved in forming them. But instead only when clear evidence refutes them.

In my less the humble opinion. This leaves science with a few old wives nuns tails. That are still followed 400years after the 1689 acceptance of the scientific method.

Blasphemy quick stone the unbelievers.

Kidding of course. Have to admit I agree. I've used Linux since the late 1990s. So long long before it was usable by most folks standards.

I started because my university had HPUX machines that we needed to submit work on. So wanted a unix like enviroment at home I could work on. This was a tim when linux was basically slackers on 50plus floppy disks. Xwindows needed configuring for every monitor. Honestly by current standards usability was non existant compared to windows.

But honestly I spent so much time on the system. And watched it improve. To the point I find windows an utter pain in the arse now. And will avoid it under all circumstances.

But the idea of convincing folks who have no interest. Where the hell do folks find the time.

and revive “partial birth” abortions, which are federally banned.

OK as someone not from the US.

How the hell dose that work. When a state has a requirement in its law. To allow something that contradicts a federal law.

Seems like it would be something only added as a middle finger to the federal gov law. Rather then a change that is able to happen?

Yep lots of the right wing in the world. Assume they are the only nation with immigration restrictions.

It seems to be a natural assumption from the its us against the world attitude.

As gnome shell and ubuntu. Have nio such good faith agreement.

And thisbis just a process ubuntu has to reduce its own work load.

Who really cares. Ubuntu can include and reject any software they choose.

Ubuntu users can also add and take what ever risks they choose.

And gnomeshell can choose to change there releases and software as they choose.

This os the cost of free as in speach software. If you are need 3rd parties to make your software work. You have to accept they have the same freedoms you insist on.

Personally i prefer that and the option to use older versions if thing go wrong. Then a privrate for profit ccompany making the same choices with less freedom for me.

How do they handle this on ISS

LOL x11 was created in 1984. I started with it in 1994. By 2000 it was still a long long way from perfect. Heck that is why wayland x12 is created. Because x11 has some old fasioned ideas that really do not fit so well today.

As for making an OS in that time. Well microsoft seems to have taken way longer then 15 years. And few would ever say they are perfect.

Honestly I am far from a wayland fan. I do not consider it a valid replacement for x11 yet. I also use Nvidia. But it is and will get there. Likly just in time for folks to start wanting a replacement. That is sorta how this stuff goes in the FOSS Operating system development cycle.

Giving a nation the idea you may support an enemy. Is in no way a protection from that nation taking control of your assets. It is at best giving the nation the ability to rationalise the need to limit your own power.

After all dispite not seeing any reason why any corp in the US would be worried about current potential govs nationalising them. It just not something either of the main parties are fans of.

Its even less likely musk would see cooperation with russia as a way to prevent such a thing.

due to the polarization brought about by social media echo chambers.

Due to the actions of recent right wing political parties whe gaining any power.

That's a bit like saying

"How dare you call us all arsehole. Because we keep voting for arseholes to lead our parties. "

Unless you and others are prepared to form a right wing that opposes these ideas. Then that is the reputation the right deserves.
