If you're interested in assisting moderation of any of the communities I moderate/own shoot me a message.

We encourage people to do this for Fox News links.

While Fox News isn't actively blacklisted at this time, our stance is that we do prefer other sources/outlets if the same story is available. As I mentioned in another comment, we read both of these articles and they contain basically the same content, so we left this post up, and that is basically how these posts are being evaluated at this time (checking to make sure they aren't misleading/reporting incorrect information).

Also as mentioned in my other comment, we do also understand that a lot of users do not want to click Fox News links and support them, so I do also encourage people to post links to other outlets in the comments so users can still read the article if they choose to do so.

If enforcing instance-wide rules is an issue for you, I have bad news about any forums you choose to join in the future.

Not only is it against instance rules, but the comment was reported multiple times for being hateful and offensive, if it doesn't personally offend you that is wonderful, it doesn't change the bigoted nature of the word, and that it does offend some people. I gave OP 3 hours to edit the comment before I removed it, if anything that's quite the opposite of Reddit moderation, where you'd simply have a comment removed and receive a ban instantly.

Received reports for the source-- as usual, these are evaluated on a case-by-case basis as FoxNews is not currently "blacklisted", it's just "not-preferred". After comparing this article to the one in the comments, they contain basically the same information and the conclusion is this particular post will be allowed to stay up. Many of the other links from Fox News have been taken down, not entirely because of the outlet, but because the content of the article went off the rails and did not match what other outlets had reported. If you have any discrepancies feel free to comment or tag me.

We respect that users may not want to click on links leading to Fox News, so as always we do encourage people to continue to post links to other outlets in the comments if you disagree with the source of any post (as ZephyrXero did here).

He's been banned and (most) of the comments removed.

Our stance is that we prefer if people use other outlets if the same story is available elsewhere, although it isn't outright blacklisted (at this time).

We skimmed this article and the article posted above from BBC, and they contain basically the same information so we are leaving it up as it seems this article wasn't written in bad faith.

That said, we do understand that users do not want to click Fox News links and support them.

This is a constant talking point between the mods that is actively monitored and discussed on whether we should continue to allow it, but for the time being, we are just doing our best to encourage users to use other outlets and reading the articles and comparing them to what other outlets have reported to ensure they aren't misleading or reporting incorrect information before we decide to leave it up.

Can you reword your comment to remove the word "retarded" please? Otherwise, I have to remove it as the admins have made it clear that this word is not welcome here due to its bigoted, hateful, and potentially offensive nature, and the use of the word as an insult is discouraged.

Yeah, so you're not banned here, I think you're banned on the instance as a whole. Even when I log out of my account your profile says "banned" at the top, which wouldn't show up regardless if you were simply banned from a community I moderate.

Added you

I'm not sure what your lemm.ee is (was), that link is just a direct link to the lemm.ee instance. I don't believe I banned it, and looking through the modlog I don't see any users of the same username banned within the last month at least, so I cannot give you an explanation unless you can give me the username and/or link(s).

I didn't ban you, an admin did, but you can go on making yourself look stupid.

I mean, modlogs on LW are publicly viewable, feel free to check mine out where you’ll see I did not ban you from anything.

Because the way communities came to be moderated on Reddit created horrible echo chambers between banning people for disagreeing views or forcing their own opinions/views down people's throats via content removal, I wanted to grab them before the same terrible mods from Reddit did.

You are moderating both “Democrat” and “Republican”… lol…

It's almost like you don't have to have entirely one-sided views and can moderate content without bias and without creating hate-filled echo chambers.

If you'd like to participate in either of those feel free to ask, I'm not here to "power trip".

I am currently the only moderator, I don't want to spam my own posts to any community though. I would rather them develop on their own and hope the community and posts come/grow organically.

Not much at this point, honestly, but the site admins would like me to add moderators, especially from other timezones.

In this instance, in particular, I can say I have had to moderate exactly zero things. Basically, just check the new feed occasionally to make sure everything being posted is relevant to the instance (i.e. pictures, not memes, not politically fueled photos, not shitposts etc.). If a report comes in check it out and clear it, but overall there isn't too much moderating to do here.

This is correct. I have already passed off ownership of c/conservative, I'm simply just another moderator now. I have also added mods to any of the communities that actually have content (most of them do not without me seeding it). I have not rejected a single request from anyone that reached out to moderate any of the communities (the biggest ones are c/nba, c/nfl, c/baseball, c/pics, and c/news). I was discussing adding someone as a mod on c/news last night before I logged off and one will be up today. I haven't received any requests on c/pics but the volume of posting isn't really unmanageable.

Edit - And anyone wondering WHY I didn't remove posts from the one guy that was posting there, the answer is because I believe the voting system should be allowed to do its thing. All of his posts were heavily downvoted, it shows exactly where the community there or those passing by stood on the posts. I don't believe in overmoderation which Reddit fell victim to and curated those echo chambers by removing content and posts they disagreed with.

Edit 2 - Screenshot of DMs showing discussions with a c/news user that contacted me where I state that I don't want the posts to come from incredibly biased sources

Edit 3 - Grammar

I have no idea, I'm not an admin, you'd have to contact them about that. They can be seen on the lemmy.world home page.

Removed, you can feel free to post the other article.

No one personally attacked you here, but in the future, if you feel someone has crossed the line you can use the report button. However, with the admitted instance-wide ban evasion I'm not sure how much longer this account will last either.

To those reporting for rule 2--

Please note that currently, content from NY Post is acceptable.

As I've shared previously, this chart illustrates the foundation for the original rules, established prior to the implementation of a blacklist. We've mentioned a few times now that the middle 3 columns are "preferred", while the outer columns on both sides are "less preferred". It is also worth emphasizing that the assessment of these sources will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

After reviewing this, and comparing it to an article on the same subject from business insider, it is my conclusion that I'd prefer the use of the business insider article over the NY Post piece. This is because the NY Post article, especially towards the end, tends to deviate more into opinions and subjectivity in contrast.

As always, the blacklist is accessible to the public here.

Edit - OP, please respond to acknowledge you have seen this and understand why your post will be removed and that you are free to repost using the other link.

I am going to remove it within the hour regardless, I'm just giving them the time to acknowledge this first and see that they're free to post the other link before I remove it and they can no longer reply to save the effort of them messaging the mods asking questions.
