Spanish guy, who likes open source software and has just discovered the fediverse (as of 28th of April, 2022). I like video games, and indie and retro music. I'm a student. I'm officially diagnosed with ADHD and ASD since January, 2023.

Mastodon

In my country (Spain) there is an organization called "Centre for Sociological Research", which in Spanish it's called "Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas" (best known as CIS).

So, is that name also a slur, according to the free speech absolutist? What about politicians and journalists who talk about its surveys?

When I'm sorting by all, instead of local or subscribed communities/magazines, everything I see comes from lemmy.world. It looks like Kbin/Sopuli/Beehaw are just a desert, until you sort by local and, aleluyah, there is updated content.

Probably, but I'm not sure, those words are very strange to me in English.

I think the free speech absolutist is full of bullshit, and there has to be ways to troll him, like redditors did with spez.

Propaganda can be very powerful on people's minds, unfortunately.

Kremlin polls indicate United Russia, the dominant political party in the Russian Federation, is predicted to gain 80 per cent of the vote in the four occupied regions.

Then why the elections if you already know the result beforehand?

Exactly, that's what I saw. As an European myself, I don't give a shit about DeSantis or Iowa or what mass media has censored. It's OK to talk about that, of course, but when all my feed is bombarded with US content...

Those who lie and justify their lies, either with or without more lies.

This instance is not big enough for the two of us.

At this point, I'm still wondering why nobody is fixing those damn windows so people can't fall out of them so easily.

The map had low resolution, below 1000x1000. So, no Pacific Islands :(

No, it doesn't.

Source: I'm from Spain.

That doesn't have to be a bad thing. I commented on posts that were weeks old or a month old. Reddit had this bad habit that everything older than 30 minutes was irrelevant already.

Sure, seeing old posts doesn't help to create an image of activity. But don't think that something old is irrelevant, unless it's a news post.

It depends. I'm on two instances, sopuli and beehaw. Both of them are really welcoming and cool, and I can interact with people without worrying about being bullied or harassed or attacked by random trolls just because they don't like what I say (and trust me, suffering those actions while being neurodivergent is way worse than suffering those actions while being neurotypical).

But I think that more than 70% of the content I see comes from one single instance. Excluding beehaw (they defederated that other instance, and I agree with that), I think that sopuli also has similar communities that are like abandoned or with low amount of content. That's something I don't like.

Prove it, because I only see US-centric posts while browsing /all.

And no, America is not the US.

A death match between the presidents / prime ministers of the rival countries. The country of the winner of that match will win the war, and the country of the loser has to deal with the following consequences.

Some instances removed the downvote button. And I think it's a good decision, personally speaking. If you like it, you upvote it. If you don't like it, move on. Less toxicity, and less emotional damage when someone has rejection sensitiveness.

I'm on mstdn.social. The admin is really cool, and the server is big enough to my liking.

When browsing all, it doesn't matter whether the instance is in Australia or in Portugal. Because lemmy.world is the biggest one and all the content comes from there, that's what I see.

Now that I'm more aware about federation things and more servers appear in the wild, maybe I'll change to a smaller one too. But I'm too lazy, and I've already changed my first instance to mstdn.social a year ago.

I know there are Chinese users on Mastodon. But since I joined the fediverse last year, I didn't see any Russian user anywhere, or any Chinese user outside Mastodon.

Thank you for the suggestion. I'm enjoying it (⌐■_■)

The thing is that I don't have those issues on Lemmy, because I usually browse by /local, both on this server and on beehaw. But I had to block lemmy.world with my user on Kbin due to that problem you were pointing out. And miraculously, I can see content from Kbin, lemmy.ml, blahaj, beehaw sopuli, and so on, because there is no way to browse only local content on Kbin as it can be done on Lemmy.

Like this one?

I didn't pick Lemmygrad.ml because of tankies. I didn't pick Lemmy.ml because it was the biggest server in April last year, and I wanted to avoid the biggest servers (same thing with other fediverse pages). Other servers had dozens of users and almost no content. The server I'm on had like 500 users and a moderate amount of content. And it was located in Finland, Europe (I'm from Spain).

I don't mind seeing content in English or other languages. A different thing is to understand what is written in those other languages, except Spanish and maybe Portuguese, French or Italian. But I don't remember seeing any language filter. But I know there is a language filter on Lemmy.

It's what I see on Kbin, browsing through all.

Maybe they're Americans from U.S., but I don't care about that. I was just referring to the posts I see when I'm browsing all, because the vast majority refer to U.S. things.

Some time ago (months, or years, I don't know), I tried to learn Croatian on my own. But I noticed it has the same problem as every other Slavic language: perfective and imperfective forms of verbs :S

Green is good, it's the color of nature.

With my user on Kbin, browsing /all, the only place I see international stuff is on c/worldnews, and not everyday.

It should be my fault, yes. Instead of going to a pharmacy, I prefer to buy random stuff from a random stranger.

Exterminate / Extinguish - once they have good amount of users, they can start crippling the other side

That's users' fault. I don't want to disrespect anybody, that's not my intention, but if users are stupid enough to listen to the songs of the Sirens, that's not Sirens' fault, but users' fault.

You say that defederating is the only way to prevent EEE. But defederating doesn't prevent people to move to Threads, doesn't prevent people to listen to the songs of the Sirens. It only prevents people to see the Sirens.

I don't see userbase. I see posted content, based on what I see from Kbin.
