Saw this coming and made sure to update one last time. Ill probably just switch to Ryujinx at some point.

RIP Yuzu

I generally would recommend staying away from third party modified versions of Windows. This would be especially true for OP as you seem to be a relatively inexperienced user.

Usually the security risk isnt worth whatever they offer and most of the time any features they offer could usually be accomplished within standard Windows.

And here i thought my local hardware store had defeated some huge piracy ring...

Its dead. Another project based on it source code might arise but it won't be the same team and will take a while before it would be smart to trust the new project.

My guess is the most recent version of Yuzu, as a stand alone, will probably work for a long time anyway. So i guess there is that...

I propose a new challenge:

Don't write anymore of these posts.

Meanwhile ryujinx be like "nothing to see here"

Sucks to see something destroy a mans spirit. Not only did it change his outlook on creating open source but it soured his view on open source in general. Reads a bit overly salty but, understandable as it sounds like he went through a lot.

Something can be shady and not a honeypot. It's much more common. Its like people forgot this and now anytime anyone feels something is sus this type of post appears.

Just don't incriminate yourself on social media. Lemmy is not private or secure. Its silly for anyone to rely on dbzer0.

Also...

"The plaintiffs have always maintained that they don’t intend to pursue legal action against the targeted Redditors."

Your probably to much of a small fish anyway...

seems more like you did not understand the terms, then some sort of bad intentioned marketing plan.

Stop seeding the torrents they mention. Use a VPN, verify it is bound to your torrent client.

That guy really hates 2fa.

Bro just buy an optiplex off ebay and go back to plex.

Just like any lifetime guarantee, its guaranteeing access for the lifetime of the service (which could end at any moment) not your lifetime.

services that promise lifetime or forever accessability should be avoided.

There's hardly any reason to pirate something on PC other than to avoid paying for it.

This is literally the most common reason for any type of piracy.

What do you mean by premium? Not sure tpb was ever a "premium" torrent site.

If your just looking for other torrent sites to use, check the megathread.

Heres my take...

PC are being priced out for people who just want to game. GPU prices have skyrocketed since the pandemic and the quality of prebuilts, in terms of value and build quality, has plummeted.

This makes consoles a much more reliable and better value for the money option. Also handheld gaming has grown exponentially with the steam deck and switch being so good. Which in turn creates more demand for console piracy.

Tldr; "I dont like how people use a term so i am going to make up a whole new definiton"

Passive resistance is a large part of civil disobedience. Civil disobedience does not need to be public.

I do agree with op, that downloading a movie to watch is not civil disobedience.

Turn your vpn off, if transmission keeps downloading it's not setup properly.

Linux users always so desperate to get windows users to switch over.

Until the user experience is not "spend hours on forums to find hacky fixes for things that just work on windows" its gonna be a tough sell.

Start with some of the easier to get into semi-private trackers such as MAM (books / audiobooks) and TorrentLeech (general) to build up some history. I can send you an invite to TL if ya need one just DM me.

You could also study the rules and join RED (music) but their wait times to actually interview are ridiculous. Its much easier to get into Orpheus which shares a lot of the same users, who are happy to upload on both.

Some of these have forums that you can use to get access to invites to more exclusive trackers.

I support ownership of stuff i buy.

Whether its physical or digital doesn't matter. I probably prefer digital as computer related activities already produce a ton of physical e-waste.

Educational piracy is even more justified. Knowledge should never be paywalled.

A screwdriver.

The irony in not being able to pirate a game from the publishers of "Rise of Piracy"

My problem with these lists is they never provide any sort of evidence as to why these suggestions should be trusted. No discernable criteria that a suggestion in a category has to meet, no evidence the site fact checks its suggestions.

Yeah hard to say. I wouldn't be surprised if Ryujinx gets hit next. It looks like the source code for Yuzu is, at the very least, saved on the wayback machine, so my guess is a fork will eventually pop up.

I stream them.

Have to say though, live sports streaming feels like its gotten a lot worse over the years so if anyone has an IPTV suggestion for live sports send me a dm.

Do this all the time with video games. Pirate to try before I buy. If I really like the game I buy it in the hopes it creates an incentive to make more games like the ones I like.

Yeah, my big issue is the most common suggestion anytime i have an issue is to switch distros instead of an actual solution.

I think plex + real debrid is also a pretty easy option. Auto downloads anything you add to your watchlist, unlimited storage.

AirVPN - privacy respecting (although their attitude towards audits is a bit off putting). They also had the best port forwarding offer at the time Mullvad announced it was ending its support.

Or just generate a random series of 5 words (through bitwarden) separated by the character of your choice and have a much better password that's relatively easy to memorize.

Relevant xkcd

I was in middle school and I saw my friend had all the episodes of ATHF (aqua teen hunger force) and I wanted to be able to get free episodes of stuff. Silly but true.

You can therefore blame the mooninites for my piracy.

Doesn't matter, my happiness is solely based on fulfilling my needs. This ends up requiring a mix of private and public trackers.

In this day and age its easy to automate fulfilling whatever obligations a private tracker requires once invited, so they are a relatively small hassle most of the time.

Totally fair. I'm still a try it before i buy it type when games cost $60+ these days.

I get what your saying and obviously overpaying by 15x, like in your example is a terrible idea but, I will say, overpaying by a much smaller amount to save time is sometimes worth it.

One thing your example does not do, and its something most people don't do is factor in how much your time is worth. Is spending an extra $500, for example, worth as much as multiple hours of your time?

Have you tested that the vpn actually works with mlb.tv? I know, as an nba fan, trying to get a vpn that works with league pass is exceedingly difficult.

Eternity for Lemmy has users as a filter option.
