If they did not collect any information, they would not have any information to give when they are served a subpoena.

I migrated from Reddit. Most of the communities I followed would be hours or days between posts (if they were not private). Everything left was just not pleasant.
I am still fumbling around here but for the most part it is has better discussions and people seem less rude.
I do not regret leaving at this time. I am sure my infinitesimal presence or lack there of does not bother Reddit, but it made me feel better.
Mozilla has added special software co-authored by Meta and built for the advertising industry
No thanks, I’ll pass
Automakers should not even have access to any of your information!
I pay for Spotify and do not like the pop ups for podcasts and now audiobooks. I really do not like how they ruined the shuffle button and now the ugly check mark instead of the heart. I am not fond of the ui at all and will start looking at other alternatives. Imo, Spotify has gone downhill. I miss the old time Spotify.
I am tired of my information making companies lots of money instead of me.(privacy issues aside) Shame you can't copyright yourself at birth.
Not much to be done with a work machine, but for personal use, I believe the more people moving away from Windows the better.
In parallel to our existing consumer products, we have the opportunity to build a better infrastructure for the online advertising industry as a whole. Advertising at large cannot be improved unless the tech it’s built upon prioritizes securing user data. This is precisely why we acquired Anonym.
Catering to the ad industry is backwards thinking, imo. Securing user data is easy enough if you do not collect it to begin with.
Imo, the fact companies have changed the narrative in favor of advertisers and data collection, proves only profit matters, not the people.
Samsung is also trying to make its ACR data more valuable for ad targeting, including through a deal signed in December with analytics firm Experian.
This should add to their profits.
If companies can't protect the information they collect now, (a large portion of it gathered without consent), how are they going to protect even more information; and where can I opt out?....smh
Microsoft is unable to track local accounts as thoroughly.
I was finally going to attempt installing Linux Mint only to find out it is not as simple as some say. I know less than nothing about computers and then there are mirrors you have to choose from to download. I have no idea what would be a safe secure mirror.
Then you have to install other software I have no knowledge of to make a bootable drive....I am just not intelligent enough I suppose. I was hoping it was a simple download process.
I am just a tad bit frustrated!
Average users will not have the knowledge or patience for work arounds.
Imo, the larger problem seems to be the majority of users appear to be fine with ads and data collection just to watch a movie or series.
I did not see a reason given. Anyone know why?
Given Microsoft's investment in OpenAI and strong marketing of its own Microsoft Copilot AI features, the company has a strong interest in maintaining the perception of continued progress, even if the tech stalls.
I believe this sums it up.
I’m pretty sure that Amazon, google, etc do far more nefarious shit behind the scenes in terms of tracking/fingerprinting you and collecting data to sell
You even get to pay more and more for this privilege…smh
While the new UI offers mostly a bloatware-free experience, it’s the ads that are annoying. For starters, the pre-installed Weather App, although can be deleted, is LOADED with ads. The ad loading also causes the app to feel super jittery and slow. So, I’d get rid of that first. Secondly, it’s the Moto Hub, which is actually a hub of ugly ads and shady app recommendations.
There’s a Moto Hub home screen widget as well, which comes preloaded and shows ads. Moto Hub also spams you with not-so-appealing notifications. So, that’s the second thing you’d want to force stop since you can’t uninstall.
I am so tired of companies being allowed to shove ads everywhere!
Run, run far away and forget you ever heard of fb!!
The more this invasive behavior becomes the norm, the worse off ALL of us will be.
Article quote "Mozilla will focus on bringing “trustworthy AI into Firefox.” To do so, it will bring together the teams that work on Pocket, Content and AI/Ml."
Does not scream privacy friendly, imo
After reading these comments since I also wanted to know the differences, I have determined I am still "technologically challenged". I basically understood the punctuation.
You know you are old when you think there should be something like a "Technology and Federation for Dummies"!!
I always get the same 2 responses:
Its not that bad or I dont notice.....grrrrrrr
Is Multireddits the correct term...? Being able to categorize my feeds instead of just having everything lumped together in "Subscribed".'
The rest is just taking a bit of time to adjust to. Currently takes a bit longer to research something, though I find my need for answers on Reddit itself is growing less and less!
So the only way to opt out of this hell is to kill your internet connection? That sucks!
Let them weed the humans out. Then the bots can talk to each other over there and all the humans can move here!
We know of no rigorous study showing that toughened digital marketing privacy policies produced tangible economic benefits for anyone, let alone lower-income consumers.
You do not need a study to see the numerous headlines of companies having their data breached of your personal information they did not even have permission to collect.
I suppose the significant amount of money spent on fines, repairs, lawsuits, ransomware do not count.
Warm soft socks!
My jaw dropped when I saw that. Not sure how many people are aware if it.
And depending on your car make, model, and year, there is constant surveillance/data collecting negating the owners "freedom".
Or those backyard street lights bright enough an airplane could land with!
I am not on Reddit, but, would making a subreddit private lead to difficulty in training the AI and collecting data?
A huge "No thank you"!!!!!!!
It still boggles my mind how paying for ads became acceptable. Not only is the company making money from the advertisers for the ad space, they now get to make money off the population for viewing the ads. This is a crazy world we live in.
I can’t stress strongly enough how badly I am opposed to ads.
Do you by chance have a link to what to install for a non tech user without linux knowledge?
The sixteenth time’s the charm….
I believe there is a setting you can toggle to "Show unplayable songs". Will not help regarding listening to them but you can at least see the ones no longer available.
Thanks! My laptop is from 2020. Decent but not top of the line by today's standard. I hope to be the newest Linux convert!
Imo, the current meaning for AI is just another way for companies to take even more of your data and embed more invasive technologies.
Edit: No thanks
Thanks for the screenshots! I have saved this comment for reference. I plan to try again tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
Even paying for apps and services does not stop the collecting and selling of your data.
Microsoft believes if they worsen the enshitification of Windows 10, more people will just upgrade to 11 quicker.
I decided to move to Linux and my other family went with Macbooks.
