I think that's in part due to nepotism. It seems like everyone who's successfully in entertainment is the child or grandchild of someone else who was successful in entertainment. The same is true for the music industry and its starting to become true in the AAA gaming industry.

When people start to get those jobs because of their family connections rather than their ability everything goes downhill. The most obvious example outside of entertainment is politics.

The short answer is that it doesn't. I think some of the most compelling cases I've seen have come out of South America, east Asia, and Europe.

The long answer (is really just speculation on my part) the US dumps so much money into defense that the citizens don't have healthcare, education, or decent social services. The USA is the richest nation on earth and many billions of dollars spent on defense are classified or unaccounted for. It seems likely to me that the US is one of the only nations with a program in place to study any recovered craft so any of our allies would likely send materials/craft to the US to be studied.

This is a very real possibility for pretty much every country in the world right now. Authoritarianism is on the rise

Yes some more instruction for the lazy. Go to charts then scroll over to the military expenditure. If you look through all the charts you'll see that the only other nation that rivals US military spending is China.

Today is bastille day.

Italy didn't exist until the 19th century. Are you saying the whole italian peninsula was a lost cause? Did you forget about the Renaissance?

We can, and likely will do better in space. Despite humanities failing most people still care about the human race enough that they want the long term survival of the species. The only way to ensure that is expansion into space colonies.

That doesn't mean we should give up on earth nor does it mean we should sacrifice climate health for the betterment of space travel.
