Just trying to create communities to help with the big migration.
I've had a few websites tell me to view their website in Chrome. I just leave, because no way am I putting any kind of personal data into a website run by such incompetent people.
I used to be a web developer. Back 8 years ago, you used to have to do a lot of special tricks to make your website look and function the same in all the browsers. Now, you really don't. Unless you're using some really obscure closed source codec or something, websites literally render and function properly without needing any browser specific code fixes.
There's no excuse, unless you're blocking older versions of every browser for security reasons, which is fine, because browsers update automatically these days, and it's very rare for someone to be running a really old version.
Firefox does this by default. So that.
Every time you suggest to meat eaters to eat less meat, they become violent.
Even if you suggest them cutting their 14 meat meals per week down to maybe 12 meat meals (skip one day), they flip their shit.
So ya, good luck suggesting to anyone to eat 30% less.
If you drop the first half, the web version and most apps will open the community in your instance.
It's a laptop that you can upgrade like a desktop.
You can also mix and match the ports on it, so you can do a combination of whatever ports you use and need most.

Saved you a click.
Reddit is going crazy because they are calling him a millionaire. I'm sorry, but making a million dollars over the past decade makes him paid less than a regular developer, and 1 million dollars can't even buy you a crack shack in Canada.
Remember, Canada is the most expensive place to live. We have the most expensive housing and internet/data plans in the entire world.
Think logically. Don't think like childish Redditors.
I think you mean there are Lemmy users (qbittorrent) and Reddit users (utorrent).
Can't convince them what they're using is bad and that there are better alternatives.
No, honestly.
I hate that the algorithm is super broken and the only meaningful sort option is "TopDay", which means Lemmy is only good for me to look at once every day at the same time.
Admittedly, I'm so bored, I open Boost for Reddit for more content.
Really hope more content comes to lemmy before third party apps shut down.
These are the same mods from the Android subreddit. That should answer everything you need to know.
I’ll need a subscription to flush my toilet at some point.
It's called a water bill. You pay it monthly, even if you don't use any water!
My favourite are the comments of people saying "return the sub back to normal, this shit is stupid and isn't doing anything! I don't even use Apollo so I don't care" - posted from Boost for Reddit.
A lot of people don't even understand. They genuinely think this only affects Apollo and that Christian is being a baby lol. Can't wait to see their faces when their app stops working and they whine.
This doesn't matter. Literally every custom ROM comes with its own forked version of the AOSP dialer and messages.
This is a good thing. It's removing garbage bloat that no ROMs even use.
Apple is faux privacy.
Also, companies like Google are doing a ton of on device ML now. pretty much every single thing on my Pixel 7 Pro never leaves my device.
It really is! And if you upgrade your laptop, you can use the old parts to build a mini desktop. They sell an enclosure. So nothing really goes to waste!
Wonder how long until someone makes a lemmy instance for only bots, with some cool domain like @lemmy.bot
Then we don't have to remember all of the domains, and we can get easy to remember bots like;
Hatred towards emojis.
Reddit downvotes anything with emojis. Like why? Do you guys not have friends? Everyone uses emojis these days when texting.
I will admit I used them WAY less before I started dating my girlfriend, but if you try to be social in any way, you will need to just accept emojis.
Plus they look cute, and convey emotions. Not sure what there is to hate? 🤔
I know what you're saying, and it's definitely possible this will backfire on us, but currently Microsoft has been really dedicated to PC gaming and have been really good to PC gamers.
All games are released on game pass day 1, which means you can play all of their new games for cheap vs having to pay $100 CAD+ for them. They are also releasing their games on steam, which means you don't even have to use their platform. They are also integrating other companies into game pass, so you can play EA Games and Ubisoft games if you have a game pass subscription. I played the crap out of battlefield 2042 through my game pass subscription.
They also have the ability to play Xbox only games on PC, which is super awesome. It requires the next tier up, and then you can straight up play Xbox games on your PC. I was playing Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts. It launches the game in some kind of cloud gaming emulator thing.
So idk. I don't really agree with your Fuck Microsoft attitude, because they are currently being really incredible for the PC gaming market. I say we can be skeptical about the future, but I don't really see much to hate on right now.
Edit: Microsoft also doesn't require a subscription. Like I said, you can buy their games on steam, or you can buy them from the Microsoft store. A subscription is optional, and it's nice for people who want to pay $15 CAD per month and play a crap ton of different games instead of paying out right for 1 game.
It increased a couple months ago to like $25 CAD lmao. Still worth it, though. I watch so much YouTube.
It's weird how people are fine paying for Netflix, Hulu, CrunchyRoll, Twitch, etc, but draw the line at YouTube, the platform that has infinite more content and actual value.
It's still less than my parents pay for satellite. Also comes with YouTube Music if you wanna ditch Spotify. Kinda a 2 in 1 deal.
Like zip or mov. Don't buy those. Any smart person and corporation already has those blanket banned.
I'd give you a genuine answer, but I'm afraid these mods will ban me like they banned me from Reddit for having a negative opinion about Samsung.
I'm so glad we gave these mods power of the Android community on Lemmy. Way to go, us!
Nah. My $2000 CAD unlocked directly from Samsung device had ads and bullshit pre-installed apps before I even inserted my SIM into it.
I returned that phone so fast. Never seen anything like that on my Pixel.
Too scary lol. I got it with my index and never played. Really wish valve included a less scary switch in the settings, because it's one of the best made VR games.
Just can't do it. Not built for it.
With every answering system having a 65 hour long COVID policy update added to their intro in both English and French (Canadian here), my number would have to look like

Perhaps the military should have a system in place to not allow emails to be sent outside of very specific TLDs if it's that sensitive? And perhaps have an automated contact book, instead of relying on someone typing out the to: address manually to be able to make that mistake in the first place?
Seems like some very basic security measures for something so serious.
You're downvoted, but honestly, I understand what you're saying.
My friends all think it's fine to text and drive, even in their employers vehicles. If there was a camera, guaranteed they'd stop texting and driving and become way safer.
People don't like it, obviously. I'd hate being watched. But there's no doubt it cuts down on accidents.
Doesn't Apple already do this? All of the parts on an iPhone are serialized so that any unofficial replacement part causes the device to freak out.
Apple is already ahead on the evil train.
I find that it very much depends. It was very positive a month ago, but day by day I see a lot more arguing, name calling, and petty downvoting.
Good. The lemdroid instance is run by the subreddit mods, and they're toxic as hell.
For what it's worth, !android@lemmy.ml never closed.
Cool, but let's not pretend Mojang are the good guys.
They added chat moderation on private servers that you host yourself on your own hardware using your own internet.
The entire community was in uproar over it for months and they didn't care. They deleted all criticism from their sub and continued on like nothing was happening. They refused to answer any questions about it, and uploaded new snapshots that only had ONE change, and that was to break mods that disabled chat moderation.
This was so bad it actually prompted modders to backport all of the 1.19 features to 1.18.
Just thought I'd remind everyone. Mojang is a shit company now that they are owned by Microsoft. They are not the good guys.
Wtf. Don't you dare disrespect tampons that way. They are useful and serve a purpose.
I vote we all start using .xxx
I mean if porn sites aren't using it, we might as well.
I tried posting this comment already but it didn't go through? But I literally got a partial refund from Microsoft for cancelling my subscription. They refunded me for the unused days.
Not sure why you're so angry at Microsoft.
I think every current Lemmy app for Android has a terrible icon lol
They should shut down their entire garbage ass company instead.
Mods of anything to do with Apple should be in most support. Spez specifically came after the developer of the most popular iOS app.
I guess they don't care as long as they can still put that they moderate a popular Apple subreddit on their resume lol
People don't matter. Content matters.
If big content creators leave, you're going to have 450MM users sitting there looking at a blank screen.
I mean damn, my front page (not signed in) is so empty. I'm seeing the most random weird subreddits that I've never seen before, because there's no other content making it to the front page.
Companies like Mojang (Minecraft devs) pulled out of Reddit today, so now they'll have to wait for someone to repost all of the news, and have to go to different websites to report issues with the game. I'm sure other companies will eventually do the same.
Not to mention NSFW content is probably going to be really restricted or frowned upon, considering NSFW subs cannot be monitized. That pulls a TON of porn off the platform, which unsurprisingly amounts to a ton of users.
Is Reddit dead? No. But it's going to drop dramatically in quality. We haven't even hit July yet. Lots of people are going to be in for a rude awakening when their apps stop working. I know there's a large amount of people who are very ignorant to all of this, and don't even know their apps (and porn) are going to be gone July 1st.
What? millions and millions of people? Do you realize not everyone lives in a city? Satellite TV is insanely popular in Canada. Every single provider offers it.
They have WISP and Starlink also. Both using satellites.
Not sure why you think a satellite is some ancient technology lmao. It's the norm outside of cities.
Yea. Literally every reddit comment I posted resulted in someone replying to me in a toxic way.
I've only blocked one person on lemmy and that's because they were replying to me in a toxic manner. That's the first reply I've had that's toxic, and I nipped it in the bud. I don't care to have fighting matches back and forth.
Have you noticed if you go to Reddit and click on any thread, usually within the first comment thread, someone will be hating on another person? Fuck that.
I'd honestly suggest everyone block anyone who is being toxic. Not to mention, others don't want to see your drama while looking through comments.
