Yeah I assume the reason there isn't is because the general ones are US-centric by default and then everyone else has to have somewhere specific to go. But I guess if they want their own dedicated place too why not?

I'm guessing most of the Beehaws at least have duplicates since they cut themselves off.

Mainly that there are really solid midrange android phones nowadays. I just can't justify the iPhone pricetag.

That should definitely be illegal.

I'm pretty sure it just doesn't suit New Zealand right now to call him a dictator, especially with a visit coming up in a week. Australia and New Zealand have to occupy a precarious position because they are European/Western in nature but obviously closest to the Asian powers. Therefore they have to try and be besties with the US whilst staying ok with China.

We're paying them to produce this pollution.

The community vibe is definitely a huge motivation. They want to be able to control the sort of people on their instance which they can't do if the mass user bases from lemmy.world etc. that are (relatively) neutral have access. It's a shame because they had some good communities established.

Conversation about hot topics is going to happen no matter what. As long as it stays respectful I think it's ok.

There's an app that does this pretty well called Ground News. For a given topic it will show the coverage across the political spectrum. However, I didn't think that this community was limited to English? Either way, I guess you could start putting one together.

National pride ✨

I don't think they'll stop until they have the whole historic area of Israel (which includes more than just Palestine.) Crazy that this is allowed.

I feel this is a distraction from the most important issues facing the world right now. Housing affordability is screwed, the environment is compromised, yet we're focusing on a tiny portion of the population?

Controlling input devices is a massive PITA it turns out. What would be been a couple of lines with xinput involved a massive (to a beginner at least) stuff around with config files. There should be a GUI way to turn off input devices.

Dude same... Solidly over 100 comments in 3 days. Nothing I have to say is that important.

Cool the world

It's the plagues.

I've heard that since it's in international waters he was able to skirt most regulation on subs.

Sidenote: I love the little arrows you had for links, how did you achieve that?

I haven't heard it called this before but I agree with others that the general concept is a good idea. We are far too quick to jump to the next processor, the next monitor etc. when those things can realistically last a very long time before hitting too much of a performance limitation (especially for people who don't render anything like high games or video editing.)

Doesn't surprise me too much tbh. I don't think I'd make an account with Beehaw but I might end up making one with a small instance they federate with to have access. While they have a right to defederate it's not something I like seeing.

Classic useless answer but nothing ATM 🙃. I've been travelling for a few months and won't be able to host anything til I get home mid July. However, I do have plans to host a website or two, maybe even a Bookwyrm, Lemmy or Mastodon instance.

The thing that can make up for lower Android longevity is the custom ROMs that might be out there (especially for common models like your pixel!) I do love the smoothness of the Apple ecosystem but alas I cannot afford it. I quite like Linux anyway.

I personally would like to see posts in 4 languages and as far as I can tell it won't let me specify more than one in my profile so I just leave it on undefined. I'm having I guess the opposite issue to you in that I'm only seeing English content when I would like to see some in my other (non-native) languages for better immersion.

To be fair there was no one tracking the migrant boat because they were crossing illegally. We knew the sub went missing basically as soon as it did rather than when people started spotting bodies. In situations where migrant boats are found before/in the midst of sinking help is sent (although after that it's probably a trip to the detention centre.)

My understanding was that the submersible regulations were able to be ignored but obviously whatever is codified in international law would apply.

I think we know that they won't. The U.S. has never universally applied it's ire based on bad behaviour alone, I don't see why they'd start now.

So it's for US tourism only?

What servers do you want defederating from?

The Greek shipwreck is an unfortunately common tragedy. Whether in the Mediterranean or elsewhere migrant bodies frequently wash ashore. The Titanic story is something novel, and I think at least partially people see it as something justified for adventure tourism exclusive to the extremely wealthy to end poorly. There is nothing to really get excitement out of from the shipwreck, it's just sad.

LibreOffice and OpenOffice are the two most popular I believe. One will usually come preinstalled on your distro (for me in Fedora it's LibreOffice.)

Warns? It's been going on for decades.
