None, in modern context we can work in any base we desire, all that basic stuff got generalized ages ago. No one is going to change computing systems to use babylonian-style. And the trigonometry stuff is the same thing we knew, but discovered earlier than the greeks.

It's a important discovery for sure, especially for our understanding of ancient Mesopotamian cultures, but everything else is the authors and the article going bananas with conclusions.

Both of those progressing nicely in Spain, and the result was... a rise of the right, that has doubled down on destroying the aquifers in the south, the most affected region.

So the worse things become, the more people turn a blind eye to the issue.

Not to mention, Pomegranate in Spanish is Granada, literally Grenade. It's also one of the more famous regions in Spain, and it exports a lot of that fruit, which, as is usually the csse, has both Spanish and Portuguese on the labels to reduce costs.

No one in Portugal should jump to that conclusion unless they are ridiculously xenophobic.

The whole signing of kernel drivers and UEFI code has always felt more of a walled garden/security racket to get actual legitimate hobbyist/open source to pay a shit ton for certificates, rather than actual security. Especially with all the hoops with older version support (if you wanted to fully support win vista or early7 you needed to dual sign with sha1, and most cert companies didnt know that and you had to fight with them to provide one), and the super shitty page that was the windows development hardware center for signing.

nVidia GPUs:

970GTX was 329$ in 2014

1070GTX was 379$ in 2016

2070RTX was 499$ in 2018

3070RTX was 499$ in 2020

4070RTX is 599$ in 2023

Probably, the 5070 in 2025-6 will be 650-700.

I have yet to find a memory hungry program thats its caused by its dependencies instead of its data. And frankly the disk space of all libraries is minuscule compared to graphical assets.

You know what's going to really bother the issue? If the program doesn't work because of a dependency. And this happens often across all OSes, searching for these are dime a dozen in forums. "Package managers should just fix all the issues". Until they don't, wrong versions get uploaded, issues compiling them, environment problems, etc etc.

So to me, the idea of efficiency for dynamic linking doesn't really cut it. A bloated program is more efficient that a program that doesn't work.

This is not to say that dynamic linking shouldn't be used. For programs doing any kind of elevation or administration, it's almost always better from a security perspective. But for general user programs? Static all the way.

I don't think that many content posters will leave. Sure, in tech oriented communities they will, as they are the ones most receptive to fediverse or other alternatives.

But painters, photographers, historians, chefs... etc are a large part of what make reddit great. And plenty of those don't really give a fuck about the platform. They will just use the official app and move on.

With the advances on SDcards, IPoAC is getting better and better.

I love Sufjan Stevens, but I don't see the comparison. While I really love his lyrics (one of the few I actually like them, I usually find most artist lyrics to be plain and way too cheesy), his music is very simple compared to a behemoth like Mozart.

Mozart was able to write highly complex music very fast, that went from deep themes to silly ones, and enjoyed popularity from both critics and public, which is something quite rare.

I don't which one would be the closest today. Maybe something like Williams or Ennio Morricone.

Men cannot participate in Women competitions but Women can go to Mens. No one is scared of women, and this is done to promote the game to women.

This is the same as with other sports, like Rallying.

Why cotton instead of linen? At least in Spain, linen is more popular as summer clothing, and definitively feels fresher.

Its double exposure.

Since the sky is so bright, if you take a photo capturing the city buildings color, the sky ends up almost white due to it being so white. If you expose for the sky colors instead, you can see the full gamut of colors in this sunset, but the buildings would end up very dark (this is how we end with those iconic western film scenes or dark ground with red sky).

You can take a double exposure to combine both so you have a higher range of light. There are many techniques for it and phones do it automatically but can be done in any camera, even film cameras. However if you fuck up or theres movement (slighty different angle) between the two takes, you can end up with things ghosting out.

It can be used to create lots of tricks: https://www.ericjamesphoto.com/blog/2016/2/double-exposures-on-film

In the 19th century they used it to "photograph ghosts" (spiritualism was in vogue at the time): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirit_photography

Yes and no. It's an escalations issue. Even with administrator access, you are not supposed[note1] to be allowed to install drivers with invalid signature, which supposedly haven an even high chain of trust (although this really iffy unless you are using secureboot as well but that's another discussion).

That said, when the attacker already has admin privileges you are so far in the compromised chain that the kernel driver is an issue, but you are most likely completely fucked anyways.

This just makes your vulnerability state to be the same as in linux, where your drivers arent required to be signed in the first place, for example.

[note 1]: There's a caveat, with admin acess you can disable driver signatures entirely, using bcdedit, this is called test signing and leaves a visible watermark at all times with "Test signing enabled", therefore the user can already see that the computer is compromised. Its mostly useful for devs (or attacking people who dont give a fuck).

We got our swamps, but then came the Dutch and they defeated the sea.

At this point I wonder if there are some internal politics that want this project to fail and be over. 70 price tag, live service but only on ubisoft platform, ignoring the most demanded features, etc.

It's like they are tired of a project that was a money black hole for years and they just want to pull the plug.

The texture healing technique is technically brilliant, but imho looks weird.

I will stick to Source Code Pro.

Waterloo (1970). That many extras required the collaboration with the soviet army, as well as bulldozing a big area to film.

We can see the difference very clearly with the new Napoleon trailer, which despite the huge budget looks outright poor in battles.

I don't think Lemmy is more privacy friendly. In fact, its, arguably, even less privacy friendly that others.

In general I think Spanish is a well formed language without (or at least not much) crazy shit.

But I still don't know why we have the same fucking word for weather and time. While using the same word for different meanings is ok, these two are ridiculously common concepts used a lot and it's not hard to get into situations where it's hard to know which is which. Absolutely stupid.

Do people have such short memory? The US does it, yeah, it was a super major scandal years ago. Spying not just on "enemy" states but also supposed allies, as well as all citizens all over.

I kind of agree with your points, but I think there has to be a distinction of libs. Most deps should be static IMHO. But something like OpenSSL I can understand if you go with dynamic linking, especially if it's a security critical program.

But for "string parsing library #124" or random "gui lib #35".. Yeah, go with static.

It's easier if you don't think it as actual gender, and just as grammar. You have "el televisor" (masculine) and "la tele" o "la tv" (femenine), both meaning "the tv". It's more about how the word ends than anything.

Still, it's something that if someone gets it wrong, it sounds off but everyone still understands. No one is going to care for a foreigner saying that wrong. There's no really a confusion to be had there.

But time/weather can lead to actual misunderstandings.

It should tell you on mousehover if not straight up listed. If there's no community, it's because they come from lemmy.world.

TBH its all confusing and all names should be full names like email adress.

No, that exploited a legitimate driver to be a point of entry and enable other attacks, and is much more problematic.

This enables attackers to make non legitimate drivers appear legitimate to windows, but they have to be installed anyway, requiring admin privileges.

If you have root in linux you can disable that, so you are in the same state. You could also selfsign.

This is an issue, but IMHO quite overblown.

That's sick! There are many fantasy ranges in 3d that imho are even better than GWs, and they are gonna explore im popularity with old world. Last Sword are my favorite, so much character.

Any site worth its salt (heh) will verify criteria on client for UI reasons, not just in the backend

I have been playing since GW1 in 2005. I really love the series and the amount of value I have got out of them, including friendships, its incredible. The aesthethic of the world has always been awesome.

Didnt know Nushell, but that looks better than cmder! Will give it a try.

You can't. Even if you have a home, unless you own a lot of land near it, but can't grow enough food to live off of it. Even if you had, the moment you have a problem (diseases, droughts, floods, too much sun, too little sun.. etc) you are fucked.

I live in a small apartment and I have peppes and some small tomatoes plants, plus lots of herbs. You cannot really grow anything close to something you can live for. If your apartment is super large, you could have a hydroponics room, which would give you lots of option for reliable food, but it's very energy intensive so it's not really ecological unless you happen to have solar panels or something, in which case you probably aren't in an apartment in the first place.

I like farming and worked a lot of it with my grandfather when I was a child and still help my family with it. But people don't really know what farming is like, especially modern farming. Some people have really ideallized versions of what its like.

Set your build goals now (check !buildapc@lemmy.world ) and use alerts/price trackers to see good deals. There are some good deals on Black Friday but many are bogus, its to better to check every now and then for deals.

one isn't supposed to move the camera

Depends on the effect you want. You can do lots of cool/cheesy tricks by moving the camera, like putting the sky from a different place into a different photo, or seeing stars inside a person silhouette. That's all double exposure, regardless if you like or consider it "proper technique".

Linux Kernel is kind of a bad example since its one of the examples of project scaling with many people from many companies. Even if you want to go with its inception, it came from Unix which already had many people. Of course, its also one of the best examples of actual leadership, proper technical people management, which is something very hard to come by. Its also a great example of how to divide your design and make it scalable, so people are working on different parts totally independent on each other.

That's all actual, proper, work, not whatever crappy slide presentation passes as leadership on many places.

  • Eliza. If you are a software engineer working on product there's no game that will come as close as being relatable than this. It's just perfect. Is very short and there's barely any interactivity. The "scifi" layer than runs the main plot is good, as it's extremely believable and well done, but its nothing groundbreaking that has been talked about in other places. But the characters, good lord, the way they speak and experiences they tell... I swear that I have met carbon copies of some of them. Probably the best description of burnout and long days I have ever seen. If you don't work with software this is just a short, flawed VN. But if you do, I highly recommend it.

  • Disco Elysium. IMHO the best writing in any game, and by a fucking mile (planescape was good as well but found DE much better). The phone call was ridiculously relatable and there were several other emotional moments that hit hard as well. The silliness was too much at first but it grew on me as it made the rest of the game much more palatable without becoming dark satire.

  • Mass Effect. Okay it isnt as well written as the other two above but still manages to pull emotional strings with the characters. Specially Thane and Mordin.

You can get good chef knifes for less than 200. I have Tojiro DP3 Gyuto which costed me about 110€. Not the absolute best steel (VG10) but still very very well done, and with a good bit of care it can do wonders.

If you like western style, brands like Wusthoff have a lot of goodies for a good price. Victorinox as well, if you avoid the large amount of crap, they have some for absolute amazing value.

I mean, in europe they are more expensive, 4070RTX was about 700€ (770$). Different currencies and different taxes. And greed.

With admin privileges you can do the first one though, as the whole revocation list on certs is a fucking general mess (and that applies to web in general, not just windows).

In general if your attacker is admin or has tricked you into executing something as admin, you are pretty much fucked, regardless of drivers.

For most of them this is just a minor inconvenience compared to the gigantic community they get.

Im sure if reddit keeps this path it will deteriorate and lose users, especially as new generations don't enter it and prefer other platforms, but it still has a very long way to go.

Even twitter, which is full-on scorched earth with big messes like limited viewership, still retains a large active community.

... Im not sure if I follow your interpretation.

All Im saying is that people doing farming without knowledge is not a solution and they can easily make soil worse, and if they want to contribute, they can do better by planting native flora.

Thats not true at all, there has been incredible improve, particularly with jobs.
