I don’t mind in-game ads printed on in-map billboards and stuff

Not ten years ago people were complaining about this very thing.

It's fascinating to watch the boiling frog in basically real time. Give it another 10 years and ads that interrupt gameplay will be seen as normal too.

The developers plan to upgrade the AI so that it can predict appropriate assignments of jobs for new employees

"The AI says you're probably going to quit so we're going to start you out on a really boring, mundane, low-risk task."

"Fuck this sucks. I quit."

"Wow this AI is so good at predicting things!!"

Rocksteady took the game entirely offline to fix a devastating bug that would lead to new players receiving 100% completion of the entire game without having done anything.

LOL

The concept of surge pricing for something that was supposed to be a side job for drivers makes sense. During a blizzard, if driving Uber is my side hustle, there's no way I'm getting in the car to pick up some schmuck after he drank too much at Applebee's. But if I can charge more for that ride, I will start to consider it.

But then the "gig" job became people's full time job and everything, as it must, went to shit.

But for Wendy's? The meat is there. The employee is there. Everything is already there, ready and waiting to make burgers. So surge pricing isn't correcting a supply/demand imbalance - it's just on-demand price gouging.

If Americans would stop fetishizing guns to the point of sacrificing children to the altar of their bang-bang toys, we could actually have a respectable society.

This is wild. My family and I just had vaccines done at Walgreens on Friday. The lady who did the vaccination quite nearly fucked up and gave my son an adult dose. She caught herself and pulled it out before injecting, but it was a near thing. It was quite obvious that she was completely rushing everything and was completely overwhelmed.

This will somehow result in increased bag fees.

100 years ago there were more things that just happened to us that we couldn't do anything about. It's hard to eradicate a virus when you don't even know what a virus is.

Nowadays we are plagued with completely solvable problems. We could eliminate measles, but dumbasses are afraid of vaccines. We could feed everyone, but we got billionaires to maintain. We could stop destroying the earth, but then who will burn all this oil? We could cooperate on a global scale, but then we might have to talk to brown people, ew. We could stop bombing each other, but then how would we prove to our gods that we're good people?

So yeah "things" are shittier, because nowadays we have the ability to live in a nearly post-scarcity society but we just don't wanna.

I would doubt they would have encrypted anything on the probe back in 1977 when it launched.

So people who want to just play a game casually will get their asses handed to them by people who are artificially enhanced. Cool.

We were there 10 years ago and that's being generous. Phones have been fucking boring for over a decade.

And that should be a good thing because by now you should be able to pick up a great smartphone for a hundred bucks... except that all these phone companies have to keep the money flowing in so they keep inventing shitty gimmicks and charging thousands of dollars for them.

Or they strip out features to make you use their shitty clouds and subscription services.

Or they keep bloating the OS so much that the hardware can't keep up - but God forbid you want to ignore their shitty update that brings 100 new emojis! They're gonna force that shit on you whether you like it or not.

Tech industry is a desert of wasted talent nowadays.

It was supposed to be a movie with no substance.

Just move on with your life.

I always thought if you were "laid off" it was the company's intention to maybe bring you back someday

Where'd you get that idea? "Laid off" has always been a euphemism for "fired."

What the hell are you talking about about? Who is out there "scoffing" at those who save?

Sometimes I wonder how awesome the Internet would be if people didn't constantly spout some made up bullshit as fact.

It's been 8 years since yt music launched and you still can't fast-scroll to the end of your library.

All right smart guy, explain to me how else I'd know if I'm out of ketchup if I can't use an app to access the remote camera in my fridge? Can't do it can ya? Yeah that's what I thought

I've thought about this.

This ought to be good.

If they couldn't use guns, they'd use cars

I would guess not. Any authentication scheme would just be another risk point to not be able to talk to the thing from earth.

But I'm just guessing.

Humankind could have been living in blissful peace for centuries.

Nah. This is a unique moment in history - access to objective truth has never been so widespread. In theory, it's a lot easier to lead people to war if you can convince them that their neighbors' customs and culture are causing your crops to fail or some shit.

But it turns out that people simply prefer to reject objective truth. So they'll blame gays for hurricanes and tell people that homelessness is punishment for sin.

Everything is definitely shittier now.

it was good at what it was supposed to be

What was it supposed to be? It was a movie with no substance

It was supposed to be a movie with no substance.

That's really the extent of how far I'm willing to go to bat for fuckin Unfrosted my dude. Of all the movies ever made, Unfrosted ranks pretty high on the scale of "I really don't care about it (or what anyone thinks about it) one way or another."

This time they'd actually bring out the machine guns.

I moved to the $10 720p plan and haven't noticed the drip in resolution even once.

Comical Ali!

Wait what's Linux, never heard of it

"why do so many people believe in conspiracies"

"Well, to understand that, you have let me tell you about how The System is designed to replace education with propaganda."

Some real fucking pedantic bitches on this site.

You are wrong. "Universal health care" has nothing to do with removing profit motive. It just means everyone has access to health care, be that through public or private (ie profit-driven) insurance.

I think you're meaning to say "single payer" health care, which is where the government spends a portion of tax revenue to pay for health care for everyone.
