Did they name their dog after liquor?

Maybe they adopted the dog with that name.

Maybe it’s named after W. Louis Hennessy, an American jurist who serves as judge in the District Court for Charles County, Maryland.

Maybe it’s named after the NY Jets long snapper.

Maybe your preconceptions and biases speak more about you than the people in the story.

Be better.

I agree with the point you’re making.

her life will never be the same after these horrible events

I don’t think this is the equivalent of saying life is over. It’s saying that if Shani Louk is alive it’s good news while also acknowledging that there has still been significant grievous harm caused to this young woman.

Her not being dead is not equivalent to no harm/no foul. Hamas still has responsibility for significant harm caused to Shani Louk.

I think there is a sense that if Apple is willing to walk away, it's a signal to other companies that the problem is real.

I agree that Apple may be the canary in the coal mine but I propose a motive beyond ethics.

It may be that Apple has seen a reduction in traffic from ads on Twitter recently and this latest move by Musk, coupled with everything else, gave them leverage to get out of any contracted ad buys. They pull ineffective ads, help their brand and ethics image, and save money doing it.

The cynic in me says whatever the motivation the largest driver is financial.

The last bit you quoted about Biden is referring to statements he made about Biden asking Netanyahu about the possibility of a ceasefire and that Bibi told Biden there is none.

It’s called genericide. They encounter the 24 hour measure of time primarily through the US military and its service members so all 24 hour time generally gets called military time.

Similar to why facial tissue is often Kleenex or adhesive bandages are Band-aids in the US.

I don’t self host to the extent many here seem too but I have had the same thought and joked with my wife about it.

Ultimately everything I’ve setup I’ve done in part because it’s my hobby and it interests me. When I’m gone my family will revert to whatever they’d normally be doing without me, because they don’t have interest in it like I do.

I thought the Rivian vehicles were still drivable? It was just the infotainment that’s impacted, no?

If the movie Armageddon taught us anything it’s that it’ll be super easy to train miners for space.

76 attempts? What are they doing, electing a new speaker?

We had three families in our neighborhood, all related, that the parents/grandparents were from Guyana and the kids were born here.

I can’t speak for the country but those people were awesome! Super friendly, nice, hard working but most of all happy to share and explain their culture.

Yesterday we were shopping at Target and in the frozen aisle they had a sign for the Favorite Day ice cream sandwiches, “Everyday low price $4.99”.

The price on the shelf label, $4.69. Whoops!

$208,063.88

This would pay off our mortgage and we could dump that monthly payment into saving for retirement.

However, if the question was how much do we need then it would be $0. We are far more fortunate than many.

If there was a line of all the people in this comment section waiting to get whatever amount they need I’d be one of those continuously moving to the back to let others go first.

I hope you all find improved quality of life, even if it’s not through some financial windfall!

It wasn’t trying to diminish the atrocity, sorry if it came out that way.

You did not, not to me at least.

I just keep the aggressor out of my head when thinking about the victim, they don’t deserve the attention.

That’s a great way to approach it. I was only speculating on the original commenter’s intent because that’s how I think about it too. I’ve had trauma in my past and it’s shaped who I am today; I reflect on it often. When I see stories of trauma for others I always have the thought about how their trauma is now going to shape their life going forward.

I guess I’m a little triggered by this specific theme

With good cause for sure! Harm and trauma don’t take away your agency or humanity, that happens by how others react to you after.

Is it? Doesn’t the Republican Party hold 221 seats in the House? Isn’t it 217 needed to vote in a new speaker for this Congress?

The republicans shouldn’t need any help from democrats to elect a speaker and democrats should be voting against a speaker candidate who they feel would impede meaningful legislation or work against the interests of their constituents.

My take on it is the Republican Party can’t field a realistic candidate because they are trying to please an extreme subset of the party rather than working with democrats to find a middle ground candidate.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure there are reps from the Dem side that will refuse to vote for any nominee who is republican. I just think it’s disingenuous to accuse the minority party as a whole of practicing party over country when the majority party voted out their previous pick for speaker for working with the other party.

Edit:spelling, because I don’t proof read until after I post.

That’s always going to be a problem for early adopters of new tech. Plus, since it’s automotive you’d run that risk with the first model year or two after a major redesign too.

If what Rivian has reported is true it’s not really a failing of the equipment but human error. That’s always going to be tough to account for, though there’s likely improvements to be made to their testing methodology before pushing to prod.

Oh whoops, oooh. I dropped my monster condom that I use for my magnum dong.

The first thing the picture made me think of was that OK white power symbol racist bigoted fucks use.

Edit: I stand by what I said but also because I don’t know things and learn them everyday:

While it's true that some Filipinos use this gesture to mean 'okay,' Filipinos more commonly use it to mean 'money,' or 'pera,' 'kwarta,' 'datung,' 'anda' (slang words for 'money').

DARE is not a good example to hold up because the program doesn’t work.

Although some studies reveal that DARE has the positive effects of promoting positive police- juvenile relations and imparting accurate information about drugs and drug use, but it does not appear to deter drug use.

Edit: to clarify, DARE has always been flawed and ineffective. There was a study in 1994 that showed this yet it didn’t stop or change the program.

Here’s the legal precedent. Travis v, State

There’s anecdotal evidence as well.

https://getjerry.com/questions/how-fast-is-considered-reckless-driving-in-technically

https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/qap7u1/got_2_traffic_tickets_speeding_and_reckless/

https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/9egs7j/ga_speeding_and_reckless_driving/

There’s also evidence that they don’t always determine reckless driving at high speeds, especially when targeting for that en masse it seems.

https://www.wsaz.com/2023/06/14/dozens-drivers-were-caught-going-over-100-mph-georgia-interstate-police-say/?outputType=amp

It’s really officer discretion based on the wording of their reckless driving law. Either way, as I said, whether it would have been or not doesn’t matter in regards to how this stop played out.

I wonder what the criteria for SUV is for these studies?

I’m probably an outlier but I switched from a compact sedan to a compact SUV that’s 10 inches shorter in length, 4 inches higher in height, and 1 inch wider than my old car. They are about the same in weight, within a couple hundred pounds, and the new car is about 80g/km lower in emissions.

I technically own an SUV but it’s not super different from a hatchback car.

I hated the movie ending which is why I know it was so good. It ended in a way that was unsatisfying to me and I feel like that’s important to the story.

The hexbear and lemmygrad users/posts I run across in All mostly remind me of those street corner preachers. I don’t care one way or another about their ideologies but it’s tiring that they always feel the need to shout it in your face.

I don’t hate them but find them to be obnoxious and mostly cult-like.

I had a surgery in 2017 that was billed out at right around $1,000,000 total. Literally saved my life.

Bonus points to anyone who can guess what it was!

When EA mess up and then make a non apology it is to publicate their customers.

So I learned today that publicate is a word, a transitive verb, but did you mean placate?

Either way you contributed to me learning something new, so thank you!

Nope, but not a bad guess. Most appendectomies are laparoscopic andrelatively quick and simple.

This is what it is for me. I’m blind in one eye and wear glasses because I’m near sighted with astigmatism in the other.

It’s really hard for me to tell the difference and most of my library is 1080 or 720 because it mostly looks the same to me. I don’t want to give up the extra storage Ford 4k files.

I left one job and went to another. There was a 3 month gap where I had no health insurance, didn’t qualify right away at the new job. Got an infection that required a two week round of antibiotics.

The cost without insurance was a little over $2000. My COBRA coverage was $600+ and a couple dollars with insurance for the anti biotics. I felt lucky to only have to spend the $600+ to enact COBRA coverage and that it happened in the first month so I could only pay once and drop it.

Oh the irony of the article being about Cheeto’s dictator comment and the user you’re replying to being upset Biden isn’t behaving like a dictator.

Because "mixed breed" dogs aren't a breed? That's my whole point.

“Pit bull” isn’t a breed either.

American Pit Bull Terrier is a breed. It’s one of several collective breeds that people typically refer to when they use pit bull. The others being American Staffordshire Terrier, American Bully, Staffordshire Bull Terrier and sometimes the American Bulldog.

That term is also often used for mixed dogs that may have some amount of one of those breeds or that shares physical characteristics with one of those breeds, usually head and/or body shape.

Anecdotally, I have a neighbor whose neighbor on the other side called the police on him for having a “dangerous breed” dog. They told the police he had a pit bull. It was a boxer.

Some kind of organ transplant?

Bingo! The cost of a liver transplant in the US is about $878,400. I had liver and kidney.

On top of that I needed dialysis 3x a week for ~6 months before the transplant and that was billed out at a little of $7,000 per visit, north of $21,000 a week, for 26 weeks, over $500,000 billed for that alone.

Healthcare costs in the US are absolutely gross!

Mine also came from Ukraine and like you I wanted something with personality. I got an oak, ball top style stained cherry and I love it!
