I’m a little torn on this because every time I’ve seen this posted on Lemmy there’re people who praise it and point out how it’s often the only viable option if you’re rural.

However, as someone pointed out, the infrastructure is not really sustainable long term, and may not be very sustainable short term it sounds like either.

We need to bury our electrical anyway, I say start in these rural areas and bury internet right along with it.

Posse Comitatus Act.

The national guard could have been activated. Who activates the national guard for DC?

The D.C. National Guard is the only National Guard unit, out of all of the 54 states and territories, which reports only to the President.

Yeah but he screwed up the quotes again. Should be:

Any lawyer who takes a TRUMP CASE is either CRAZY, or a ‘TRUE AMERICAN PATRIOT’

The Posse Comitatus Act bars federal troops from participating in civilian law enforcement except when expressly authorized by law.

Do you want them to break the rules they’re bound to follow or not? Sounds like you just want to believe whatever fits your viewpoint. The military had no right or responsibility to engage in a civilian law enforcement action on January 6.

The Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, which removed the military from regular civil law enforcement, was enacted in response to the abuses resulting from the extensive use of the army in civil law enforcement during the Civil War and the Reconstruction. What you are all bent out of shape about was restricted because it was being abused.

I’m maybe not who you’re looking to hear from but I can provide a patient perspective.

I never refused my medications but there was a point where I was rude, mean and difficult. For me it was a combination of things. I was tired of being sick, tired of the hospital and wanted to leave but wasn’t well enough, struggling with loss of control and scared.

I did snap out of it and made a point to apologize to the staff I had mistreated. Ultimately it was a negative expression of everything I was feeling because I didn’t know how to process and handle it appropriately.

I had one job where the writing was on the wall for our team. One big indicator was when our director out of nowhere dipped out to a new job.

For a few weeks any time I mistyped my password and couldn’t get into a system I would think “this is it, they killed my access”.

They did have the decency to tell me first. Our whole team was gone within 3 months.

Wyden, who released the Dec. 11 letter, called upon U.S. intelligence officials to stop using Americans' personal data without their express knowledge and consent, saying it was unlawful

Anybody able to explain how this is unlawful?

Is there a restriction on intelligence gathering agencies that would apply?

I don’t believe this is right or fair but I’m not clear on how it’s illegal.

I don’t know about you but when I was a teen in the times you mentioned we went out to those places as a group, not alone. If a stranger approached one of us and tried to get us alone it would have been weird.

Social media can certainly make it easier to isolate an individual while also giving them a sense of safety. A teen today can be sitting in the safety of their bedroom all by themself and be groomed by someone through social media.

Like with most things technology has made this easier than before and in this case that’s not a good thing.

I'll take "moronic takes" for $500, Alex

It’s important to note that, barring something egregious, single instances don’t meet the with cause definition.

There has to be documented history that the issue was raised with you and addressed (verbal warnings, write ups etc.)

Wrong. If this was a criminal trial then sure, but it’s not.

Maybe pitbulls truly do have a disposition for being man-killers

Loved your comment, just wanted to chime in that what you’re referring to in the quoted portion above is commonly called gameness. Generally speaking it’s not that pit bulls are more prone to attack by default but their attacks are more unrelenting.

Japanese knives are great if that’s your preference but that excludes a lot of other BIFL knives worth considering.

Wusthof in particular should be on the list as well as Global. In general kitchen knives are more forgiving in the BIFL category because a lot of it is just properly caring for what you have.

Just like Amazon who is a cloud computing company with a side hustle in e-tail or Google which is an ad company with a side hustle in tech.

In general most people don’t really understand this about big companies.

Lol! I’m sorry, I thought you were being serious. I didn’t realize you’re a parody or troll account.

Why would anyone try and convince you of anything? French citizens don’t get a vote in US elections. Your opinions on them don’t matter much.

The enforcement of immigration law is a federal responsibility

Doesn’t matter if the individuals arrested under this are in compliance with federal law. The US CBP and ICE are responsible for enforcing immigration laws for the federal government. Abbott doesn’t like that he doesn’t have control and is trying to illegally mandate that he does.

Other border states work with the federal government but that doesn’t fit Abbot and the Texas Republikkklan’s agenda.

Certified pre-owned lease returns! I’m on my second and they’ve both been great cars for $22k or under.

That said, a big contributor is the amount financed. When we’ve bought new cars we paid $7k up front for mine and $5k for my wife’s plus our trade ins. Many, if not most, people can’t afford to do that so they have huge monthly payments even before interest.

Interesting read about this..

The native cultural influence is pretty strongly interwoven in the fabric of Minnesota. It’s very possible the thought process was just that the locals associated that image with their state, just like the brand name.

The Anishinaabe and Dakota have had major influence on the state and that’s been recognized more in recent history with the renaming of certain places back to their native name, like Bde Maka Ska.

Most of the naming in the metro(and the state name) comes from the Dakota peoples. The Anishinaabe were located more in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin so you’ll see the influence there. For example the town of Biwabik in the iron range which is the Anishinaabe word for iron.

Why not have a two stage torque process?

I know aerospace ≠ automotive but many years ago I worked in a shop and any time the wheels came off a vehicle the mechanic/tech torqued the lug nuts to spec, then a second person independently verified and re-torqued the lug nuts.

It seems like adding a network connection and all that goes with it also introduces additional points of failure, no?

What’s stopping the republicans from doing the same to Biden?

Did Biden participate in an insurrection? Unless some very big news went under the radar Republicans can’t disqualify Biden under the 14th amendment. That’s what you’re not seeing.

Your argument is don’t uphold the 14th amendment to the constitution because Republicans might try to unlawfully disqualify Biden from the ballot? I don’t believe you don’t understand how absurd that is.

Are T&Cs retroactive? I would think any new T&Cs could only apply from that point forward, not that they could retroactively absolve themselves of liability or how you could pursue it.

although he hasn’t been found guilty by courts or congress

It’s not a legal trial, it’s not a law, it’s an amendment to the constitution. No finding of guilt by a court is required.

This is bad precedent.

Blocking a presidential candidate from a states ballot because they violated the 14th amendment by engaging in an insurrection is bad precedent? Your argument is a little silly, Republicans already work in contradiction to the laws and constitution, doesn’t mean Democrats or the American people in general should not follow them.

This is correct. My argument isn't just that they top the lists... it's ALSO that the damage they do is much higher than any other breed as well. These concepts are inextricably linked.

This is called gameness and the trait is not inextricable for pit bull breeds. It was bred into them through selection, not too dissimilar to how those stubby faced breeds were bred to be that way (e.g. pugs).

If pit bull breeds were selectively bred to reduce/remove that trait it would change things. It’s almost like the root problem isn’t the dogs but the people and breeding practices.

People who casually imply that every pitbull is a fucking monster are so woefully illinformed, and usually completely unwilling to consider they don’t know all the facts.

If this was directed at me I wasn’t implying every pit bull breed type is a monster.

Certified, professional breeders might be breeding out the gameness but the backyard breeders and the accidental breeders aren’t.

The number of pit and pit mixes in shelters aren’t coming from professional breeders or their dogs. Our second adopted dog is a mutt but dominant breeds are Border Collie and Am. Pit Bull Terrier. We’ve got her pretty well trained now, but if another dog comes snapping and biting at her I have to jump in to get a hold of her because she’s still got enough game in her that, if provoked, she goes hard in the paint.

I will always believe that pit type breeds are not for inexperienced or lazy dog owners. They need work, structure and training consistently.

I’ve found for me it’s about getting out and enjoying it. Hiking with the dogs, skiing, snow shoeing, sledding, snowball fights and snowman building etc.

I found that viewing winter as a time when I’m stuck inside was super negative for me. Now I look forward to the things that winter brings and allows for.

The only tough part still is when it gets gray for long periods but I soak up the sun when it’s here.

Deodorant is blue, deodorant + antiperspirant is white in the store. It’s also all aluminum free now which sucks. I miss the aluminum deodorant gel.

Note that in Minnesota the State Supreme Court specifically stated their ruling applies only to the primary.

Depending on SCOTUS it is entirely possible Trump could be removed from the general election ballot via another lawsuit filed after SCOTUS rules.

Hey @doctordevice and I also have that cat tree! We should start a club because it seems popular with the humans and the cats!

Human error caused the issue in the first place, why are we assuming a human will always find and fix the problem on a second pass?

I’m not sure why you should trust a piece of technology to be infallible.

I mean, if a networked tool can be hacked then should it be trusted to be accurate? How do you know it hasn’t been hacked and maliciously modified to report correct torque even when wrong?

Didn’t GM just suspend sales of their new cars without CarPlay because their new system had software issues? Trust a company trying to save money to skimp on the implementation costs of any technology they put in place too.

I live in MN and every fall when we’re done in our yard I’ll turn off the water in the house for the lines that go to the outdoor faucets attached to the house.

Then I’ll open those faucets outside to let the water drain.

Inside the house on the water line itself is a bleeder valve I’ll open to help the line drain.

Once drained I close the drain valve and the bleeder valve and put an insulating cover on the spigot.

Most people could cheap out on tools and they'd still last.

I think this is a great one. I learned growing up that if you need a tool for a project buy the cheap one. Then if you use it enough to break it, buy a more expensive one next.

Tool trial by combat, so to speak.
