By the way, upon full release Artemis will be functional for both Lemmy and kbin, AND be available on both iOS and Android.
Alpha testing should be starting in the next day or two.

Yep, iOS and Android! Also, all this work has been done in less than a week. It's crazy.
I did learn metric in school, did you not? I'm in Ohio, not sure if it's different elsewhere. Typically it was tied to physics and chemistry, but still learned it.
To be honest, I'm happy with how it went. I am excited to be off of Reddit and part of the Fediverse now. I never expected Reddit to fail, but I think there will be a drastic decrease in quality content.
It will be for both, friend.
Granted this was 6 years ago, but I met my now fiancée on bumble. It might be worse now, not sure
So far all of the dev work has been done by Hariette herself. Full credit to her, I'm just promoting it because it really looks quite great in my opinion.
As of right now it is not open source, but @hariette is leaning towards open source upon public release Source from the Artemis App discord.
Artemis will be available for both IOS and Android!
Thank you!
Swiping works for me on iPhone. My only issue is there's no way to refresh the page from the PWA on iPhone (to my knowledge).
Posted from kbin.social after "Add to home screen"
There is a light mode as well, I suggest joining the Discord server. Hariette is accepting ideas and feedback there.
All good, just trying to point her out in case you wanted to follow her
There is not a public release just yet, but just yesterday Artemis tripled or quadrupled the amount of people they onboarded! Scaling up very quickly.
Hmm. I typed @hariette@kbin.social
I didn't actually use a URL. I did that because I wasn't sure if I just typed @hariette
how it would appear on Lemmy
I'm using kbin.social mostly, I will just follow Lemmy communities from kbin once federation is re-enabled. It doesn't make sense to me to have an account for Lemmy AND an account for kbin if they're both part of the Fediverse.
I am also using Mastodon, even though it's part of the Fediverse. I'm doing this because it's more like Twitter, and the tweet equivalent on Mastodon is the same as a "Microblog" on kbin.
This is up there for me with Super Mario 64.
I said this:
"This user moved to the Fediverse after nearly 10 years on the site due to the proposed API changes Reddit announced in early June 2023."
@hariette onboarded an Android dev just the other day to help feel more like an authentic Android experience.
Nope, this is for both iOS and Android. It just takes inspiration from Apollo.
You can't really browse kbin magazines from Mastodon from what I've found. But, if you're on a kbin thread and click more->copy URL to fediverse then paste that URL in the search bar of your Mastodon instance, you should be able to find the post.
The only caveat to finding the post is that I've noticed this doesn't work with Ivory for iOS, but it works in the Ice Cubes app
I've heard public transit is pretty good in DC, too. My fiancée and I are planning a trip to DC at the end of August. I plan on parking my car at the hotel and just use public transit, so we'll test that theory.
EDIT: Also, I've never been to Salt Lake City. Seems like a really cool place though!
Agreed, the only cities that I've been to that had decent public transport were Chicago (The L) and New York City.
Artemis is taking large inspiration from Apollo, while still being unique so it's not an exact clone. The magazine is /m/ArtemisApp!
One additional plus to using kbin over Lemmy is there's no "Microblog" feature on Lemmy. So if you follow Mastodon accounts on Lemmy, you won't see anything. Whereas if you follow Mastodon accounts on kbin, their posts will come in as Microblogs!
Yea, I was looking at the documentation for creating your own instance. Obviously it's not going to be a walk in the park, but I wasn't sure if there was something like a check for a low user count instance or something that's not quite so obvious to self-hosters.
Yea, I'm glad I asked, it seems like a headache.
But, I'm still interested in creating one just for myself
So you're currently signed in to the lemmy.world instance. I am signed in to the kbin.social instance. I don't want to recreate my account over on a Lemmy instance just so I can use the Jerboa app or any of the other alternatives.
You are able to post and see posts from kbin due to federation, but you would not be able to log in to a kbin instance on the Jerboa app.
The Artemis App (the app in the OP) will allow users to sign in with EITHER a Lemmy instance or a kbin instance
I'm pretty sure @sarsaparilyptus was being sarcastic
I think part of the issue with that is that the Magazines (kbin's Community equivalent) are case sensitive for some reason.
So theoretically there could be a kbin magazine called /m/TodayILearned as well as one named /m/todayilearned
Thank you for a breakdown. Weird that posts from Lemmy work on Mastodon though but kbin posts on Mastodon don't really work. I have both a kbin account and Mastodon account. Using Mastodon more as microblogging and kbin more as a reddit replacement right now.
Thanks a bunch!
I believe @hariette plans on adapting to use the real API once it is made public.
I'm going to give it a go sometime this week, even if I don't end up hosting my own instance, I think there's a lot of valuable information that I'll learn both about kbin and the fediverse in general. Thank you.
That's one thing I'm worried about, too. I haven't set up a website before, but I believe I have the skill set to figure it out. Just don't want to waste my time doing all the legwork only for my user experience to be worse due to using my own instance instead of one of the "big" ones.
For all we know Christian is talking to a lawyer behind the scenes, it's typically not recommended by attorneys to announce that you plan on suing someone
