We've been living in a dystopia for a very long time now, we're just becoming more aware to it.

Yes, absolutely. As of right now I have zero friends either online or offline. It's been that way for a while now.

Increasing social anxiety, especially among younger generations. Even with all these different social media platforms many people including me find it difficult to communicate irl. Some people find it easier to communicate online as opposed to offline as some people may act bolder, feel less vulnerable, and particularly in my case be able to convey their thoughts and articulate themselves more effectively than irl. I have more time to think and piece together word by word what I want to say. It also helps that the internet makes it easier for people to find more like minded people so that they may express themselves more freely. I also notice a disconnect between my online and offline interactions as I'm more likely to initiate online than offline and I'm more talkative.

Hobby clubs, fitness groups, volunteering, specific interest events. Personally, I plan to attend more local events. There are some upcoming local events that pique my interests.

In my past I used to take on janitorial or maintenance jobs, but the grossness of the job combined with the attitude of the general public just made it unbearable. People would ask me if I was a citizen and when I said yes, they'd tell me that it's a job for immigrants. They'd also say that it's a job for slaves and ask if I felt like a slave doing that kind of work.

More climate refugees, more crop failures due to worsening climate change, more deaths due to climate change

Pc gaming. I started off with a refurbished HP omen, but now I'm wanting something more. I'm aiming for a custom built and that has led me to the discovery of companies like Digital Storm, System 76, and Falcon Northwest.

Torrenting and data hoarding are also hobbies of mine. Every so often I'll buy an external hard drive once I max out the storage on a current one. One hard drive failed a while back and now I'm looking for data recovery companies, but their services are a bit pricey.

I'm here. I left reddit for good, I don't even lurk it anymore.

I'm subbed to YT premium, Spotify, and Amazon Prime. I primarily use Steam. I pirate via torrents for movies and series. No streaming services interest me. I've used a free trial for Netflix way back when and I was disappointed that some content was not available to download for offline viewing. With torrenting I can watch content in a better quality, I don't have to worry about buffering, I don't have to worry about discs and menus, etc. All I really want is just the mkv file and that's it.

No. Imo, as long as both parties are consenting adults then I don't see the issue. Tbh, I thought society would be more progressive in regards to this by now.

I'd say it depends on the country, I could understand if the country's military is a self defense force like Japan's military for example. In my particular context, I live in US and I hope to see that conscription never happens again, we have an insatiable military industrial complex and war machine. We have 800 military bases in more than 70 countries and territories abroad, we even have one in Syria near the oil fields and we were never invited there. Plus we have a long history of interventions that have gone awry, including the more recent ones like Libya back in 2011, we made the situation even worse. All conscription would do is just serve our imperialism.

Yes, especially if it's likely to worsen over the years due to worsening climate change.

Instead of using terms like normal or crazy, I'll instead use terms like stability. Things are pretty unstable where I live right now. The economy is unstable; high gas prices, high rent and home prices, high mortgage rates, high homeowners insurance rates with some leaving the state, the closure of small and local businesses are increasing, etc. My state also has a political crisis, a restrictions of rights and extremism from the far right.

WALL-E, I rewatched it many times and played the video game. I loved the animation, the way it highlighted various topics.

Yes, I mostly pirate anime and some live action. I was saddened by the closure of RARBG, I used to torrent from there daily. Nowadays I mostly use Nyaa and 1337x, Nyaa for anime and 1337x for live action and other animation. I pay for Spotify premium, YT Premium, and Amazon Prime. I use Steam to purchase video games.

Piracy via torrenting is my preferred way for watching series or movies, I just want the mkv files, I don't care for the BD menus, UI, bloopers & extras, buffering, etc. I remember trying Netflix a few years back and noticed that some content wasn't available for offline viewing. I also don't have to worry about things like licenses expiring meaning the streaming service no longer has the right to have it in their catalog or the drm in Blu-ray discs.

I think piracy exists in a gray area like "illicit" drugs among other things and labeling or moralizing it as either good or bad paints it with a broad brush traps and confines it to a dichotomy that we really should look beyond. Heck, even services like Crunchyroll and Napster(Rhapsody) started off as piracy sites before they legitimized. Piracy also has benefits like preserving content from being lost due to it being out of print or licensing issues that limit sale or access. Old games can be played again by using emulators and roms.

Personally, I've become more technologically literate through piracy. I started off with apps like PopcornTime and sites like Kissanime, 9anime, and Putlocker. I used to exclusively stream or use direct downloads until I discovered torrenting. I used to use UTorrent until I discovered Fosshub and Qbitorrent. Most of content I've torrented I've yet to watch so I'm more of a data hoarder. I have multiple external hard drives filled with data. I don't thinking purchasing would've made me more likely to watch the content I've watched as I've purchased many physical books that I have yet to read.

Imo the term piracy means the unauthorized tampering/modification, access, and distribution of a product or service. That also poses the question whether or not consumers actually own what they buy. Piracy fights back against anti-consumer practices such as DRM which has been around since 1983. Also I'd say that corpos have gone way overboard with their anti-piracy measures when they can prosecute and extradite individuals.

I'll end with this video, "Why We Should Get Rid Of Intellectual Property.

My little brother has been glued to his tablet since he was 3. He goes to the same elementary school I used to go to, but they no longer use Windows desktop pc and instead they use Chromebooks. I remember learned how to use computers back in 4th and 5th grade, I learned how to use a browser, how to use a search engine, how to use a database, and how to use Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

I'm grateful for having been born here, but I can't find it within myself to be prideful over something that I had no control over such as the circumstances of my birth. I have a different concept of pride. I'm prideful for things that I've done such as reaching milestones, accomplishing goals, etc. I don't hate this country, but I definitely don't believe we're the best, but I definitely don't believe we're the worst. For what it's worth, it's my home and I plan on staying.

More communities for making friends, casual discussions, and local Lemmy meetups.

We're already in a dystopia, it's been that way for a while now, it'll just get even more dystopian.

Misread the title with my first comment. Something I'm not particularly nostalgic about is school. I'm grateful for some of things that I learned, but my memories are not fond enough to want to repeat or relive any of it and I definitely wouldn't go to any sort of reunion. All of that is just way behind even it hasn't been a decade yet, I'm just over it with not much to reminiscence about.

I've seen this talked about in some small subreddits, they were pushing back against the "kids are resilient" mantra. Sadly, I don't think much will be done to address the issue and we'll keep chugging along as business as usual.

I've yet to try Usenet. I use Qbitorrent. I've heard of sonarr and radarr, but I haven't used them.

Learning languages. It'd be nice if I could meet people irl who are interested in learning different languages and it'd probably keep my motivation up as I've been slacking.

Economic anxiety. I still don't feel like I'm in a comfortable position at the moment and it feels like I'm falling behind some of my goals, economically speaking. I put some of my hobbies and interests on the back burner to focus on work. I started a new job a few months ago and I genuinely like it. I hope to there longterm as I slowly replenish my finances and pay off my debts.

Seconding KISS. I love the minimalism.

Incompatibility from the start, different values, different mindsets.

I still listen to the radio in my car even though I have Bluetooth. My car is an older model and there are times when it will stop auto connecting and I'll have to connect it again. So, I'd rather just listen to the radio

I've heard of Proton, but I never knew you could get the whole suite and that they had the option to subscribe for 24 months, that's pretty neat.

Ask yourself this. Will this matter to me a week from now? If not then walk away and move on.

It's just starting. I woke up not too long ago and started doing my laundry. I watched some new videos from Our Changing Climate and Second Thought.

Imo, you don't. You must remain humble and open-minded.

I used to think unicorns were real.

I live in South Florida. The tap water in my area is safe. I drink it without boiling or filtering.

All 8 hours. It's a physical job, I'm on my feet all day, but it's one of the better ones I've had recently.

I've heard about Plex, but Jellyfin is new to me. I'll check both of those out, thanks.

Video games.

Youtube Premium, Spotify, and Amazon Prime.
