It's not entirely clear what is in the chocolates or what could be causing the illnesses. The FDA said it was working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as America's Poison Centers to "determine the cause of these illnesses and is considering the appropriate next steps."

On its website, Diamond Shruumz says that its chocolate bars contain a "primo proprietary blend of nootropic and functional mushrooms." The website also contains reports of laboratory analyses on their products, some of which indicate the absence of select known fungal toxins and compounds such as the hallucinogen psilocybin and cannabinoids.

My guess is that they accidentally grew/used the wrong type of mushroom. PCR tests on the bars will tell us for sure.

Second, really really shitty of the article to imply these bars have cannabis or psilocybin when they do not have either of these compounds according to the manufacturer's website.

So people who are anti-genocide should be genocided?

I just went to Vegas and probably took 30 ubers while there. Almost none had signs. One had a police license plate though lol

I think there's a lot more to this guy's relationship with his daughter. She had other friends at the house and hadn't told him she'd left. She also went inside and left during this confrontation. Sounds like a very strained relationship for many reasons - eg I wonder how many times he's threatened her with a gun etc

If this country cared about the environment or workers' safety, they'd fine companies who make employees work in the office/on site when they could work from home instead.

Imo, companies being concerned about class actions if everyone had access to Healthcare, is THE REASON we do not have Healthcare for all in this country. Imagine how many more Flint, MI, there are, but no one knows because none of them can afford to see a doctor.

The mushrooms in the article above do not contain psilocybin in their recipe fyi

An amanita species being mixed in accidentally is actually exactly what I suspect happened to their bars. But there are many many other mushrooms that could do this too. Per their product page, there's no amanita in these, either. Mushrooms also tend to absorb toxins, pesticides, and heavy metals, so they may be the right species but otherwise contaminated as well. Many options.

It's not enough.

As if Kansas lawmakers actually care about harm to children unless it personally affects them. I will never forget the waterslide incident, allowing parks to self inspect and not adhere to basic safety standards is wild. It wasn't until a politician's kid died that they changed the rules.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verr%C3%BCckt#:~:text=Verr%C3%BCckt%20permanently%20closed%20in%202016,State%20of%20Kansas)%20Scott%20Schwab.

Verrückt permanently closed in 2016 following a fatal incident involving the decapitation of Caleb Schwab, the 10-year-old son of Kansas state legislator (and later Secretary of State of Kansas) Scott Schwab.

After Scott Schwab spoke to his fellow legislators about his son's death and its effect on him, they voted to change the law that had allowed Schlitterbahn to self-inspect, requiring that all the state's amusement park attractions be regularly inspected by the state.

On February 22, 2019, criminal charges were dismissed against [slide makers] ... the law at the time did not require that those standards be followed.

But yeah, get right on protecting those kids from the gays. And not forced conversion therapy, which is legal in most of Kansas from what I can tell.

If the commute was included in workplace deaths and injuries, I wonder where it would rank with OSHA's statistics

What's absolutely insane to me, is that other CEOs think that's fair and fine and that Elon is very smart and not a con artist? No wonder Elizabeth Holmes got so far. It's just so obvious he's not above board

I volunteered for his campaign in 2016 and am very proud of that. Really respect him even if I don't agree 100% with everything he says

Can't you watch where you step?

Thus millennial thinks we will all die in 10 years or so from climate related disasters and none of us will live to retirement age as things currently stand.

Thank god we used that money for that and not for like, Healthcare, housing, or food

We must earn profit off our democracy, that's capitalism

I think now is a good time to exit. Tesla may have been a good company at one point despite Musk, but now you're going to be bagholding. It's probably a good time to exit Tesla.

“They have a 6½-year-old daughter,” Jones said. “And she misses her daddy.”

He was also cheating on his wife with this woman for over a year and delayed getting back home to his daughter so he could go to Russia to cheat on the mother of his child.

He should have known better on many levels.

And I don't think he gives a single fuck about his daughter.

If the FDA, FTC, USDA, EPA, Depts of Transportation, and CDC wanted to guarantee and check their work, we'd have universal healthcare. And in fact I think that's exactly the legal argument for why the government should be FORCED to provide us healthcare - how else would we be able to catch (and class action sue for) large community-wide health hazards such as:

-asbestos in baby powder

-lead and heavy metals in vitamins and supplements

-consistency of dosing in medications

-Deaths from auto accidents when we should be having trains

-Deaths from contaminated eggs, meat, milk from bird flu or other pathogens

-Products that are blatant lies/false

-Companies leaking chemicals into water supplies

-Lead in water supply

-Heavy metals in water supply& in crops, from exhaust from cars and bits of tires

-imminent looming climate change

Gee, I wonder why corporations are scared of us getting healthcare?

The automatic enrollment for the draft really freaked me out. Not even an illusion of choice anymore. A clear step towards fascism. Jesus.

Actually in the wheelchair community, there can indeed be pressure to use the least assistive wheelchair possible. Chairs aren't 100% seen as liberating and there's a lot of nuance into why people pick certain chairs beyond finances. My aunt repeatedly fell out of her chair because she insisted on one made for a lower back injury than she has. She kept it for status, because she looks more able without the sides.

I guess 'differently abled,' just comes across as ableism to me. Not using visible signs of a disability, like a chair or hearing aids, can be internalized ableism. Some of the worst verbalized ableism I've heard has come from disabled communities. It's a very complicated topic, not least because disability is used to harm disabled people and take away their agency. And for many, there is a lot of grief with using assisitive devices.

That being said, I don't think people should be forced to change or to use devices they dislike. My aunt still uses her chair, it's not like we're going to drag her into another one or whatever. I just wanted to point out the internalized ableism that could be contributing to this attitude and word change.

It wasn't so long ago that the Civil rights Era stopped disabled people from being chained in attics and lobotomized and hid away. It's entirely reasonable to fear that association.

Yup. Have you ever watched old Civil Rights activists's speeches or interviews? People like Madaline Murray O'Hair. The interviews were calm and seeking to understand. They were slower and less aggressive. Madeline Murray O'Hair was called "The Most Hated Woman in America," and is responsible for many laws enforcing separation of church and state. And they were still able to conduct a better interview then.

Those old Civil Right's interviews really showcase the regression we've had. It's almost like since we had those few famous activists, we haven't had many real ones since. Unless it's a teen girl like Malala or Greta Thurnberg, who are cute and all, but like, where are all the adults, ya know?

I think you mean meth, not heroin. Heroin would have the opposite effect

People aren't embarrassed to be racist anymore- really think we should bring that back

I was permabanned from r/worldnews for saying we should give free meals to kids at schools here instead of wasting money blowing up other country's kids.

Agree, needs more variety/organization

Portland this year is having $4 pizza slices at various participating pizza locations for 420. Also have already gotten some 30% off deals in Oregon. Imo best bud especially for the price is Oregon so far, although I've randomly heard good stuff about Oklahoma too. Hope everyone has a safe 420

Right? This article is like an advertisement to foreign governments and criminal orgs

Govt is spying on us to force us into espionage or other acts (eg witness testimony). They don't care about harm done to others unless there's an outcry.

You mean u/Spez, the former moderator of r/jailbait, who reduced mod transparency on all subreddits including porn reddits? Wonder why he needed to hide who the mods were after that scandal.

Also, fyi, to post adult content on most adult subreddits, you have to verify. The way reddit does this process is creepy to say the least, (OnlyFans at least requires an ID to verify your age) along with how they delete smaller porn subreddits that do not have those rules, including porn subreddits that are explicitly moderated by the content creators themselves. It's like porn pimping on reddit. It's genuinely very creepy especially if you believe the conspiracy that Ghilisaine Maxwell was an active subreddit poster on r/news. And if Spez or his alts are moderators on most of the big porn subs, then likely he is seeing hundreds if not thousands of images (some may be of minors bc of the way they do verification) daily through the verification process. That's- creepy. Like really creepy. Lemmy is better.

We were poly, I have my own OF, it's no big deal except those subscriptions add up fast. Just like the dating apps were okay at the time too, but an annoying cost when added up.

I think there's something to be said for coercive and manipulative algorithms, definitely. I don't know that simply efficiently looking at the porn you want to look at until you're done edging or you cum or whatever is bad. The less ads, the better as well, because ads are very manipulative and coercive and the point is to reduce that. Having an orgasm is a normal human experience, as is sexual exploration in general. Idk that all porn is perfect or anything, but I do think the antiporn stuff is weirdly sex phobic for no reason.

It would just buy us some time to actually address climate change. Currently, we have done nothing except make it exponentially worse. If we don't have a blanket, we will definitely all die. If we have one, we might get a few years and make it. It's better than nothing. Literally. It's the only option.

And our governments agree:

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/02/climate/global-warming-clouds-solar-geoengineering.html

“Every year that we have new records of climate change, and record temperatures, heat waves, it’s driving the field to look at more alternatives,” said Robert Wood, the lead scientist for the team from the University of Washington that is running the marine cloud brightening project. “Even ones that may have once been relatively extreme.”

Brightening clouds is one of several ideas to push solar energy back into space — sometimes called solar radiation modification, solar geoengineering, or climate intervention. Compared with other options, such as injecting aerosols into the stratosphere, marine cloud brightening would be localized and use relatively benign sea salt aerosols as opposed to other chemicals.

They also have floated the idea of releasing sulfur into the atmosphere, getting the idea from increased warming after shipping emissions (which include sulfur) were reduced.

Apple buying Tesla would be kinda crazy, might turn out good since Teslas are basically computers with wheels. But the two companies design way differently than each other, I doubt Tesla is as good of craftsmanship as what Apple typically does, and may sully their brand unless they can find a cost effective way to turn out a better product for similar pricing

I could see Microsoft making more sense between it or Apple. Tesla could give them that "sexy" edge they've literally never had before and that Apple's always had going for them. But there are tons of legal issues and regulations with the automotive industry, idk if they will want to.

Other interesting options would be NVIDIA or Alphabet, they have the spare capital for it but again, weird industry for them to get into. Likely Toyota or Ford etc would buy before a tech company imo.
