Hi! I'm British, I like music (grime, garage, hip-hop, R&B, and more!). I like art, culture, history, politics, & doomscrolling memes.

Also a touch of programming :)

stop manually browsing torrent sites! You're wasting your time.

Download qBittorrent. Download Jackett. Configure Jackett to work inside qBittorrent. You now have a way to search hundreds of trackers all at once within seconds and find literally anything you want.

Honestly IMO it's a bit cringe for me that so many people are like, "fuck these Lemmy apps this [insert unreleased app] is amazing!".

Like calm down, lol. Let's see how it'll be first, a lot of the Lemmy apps are great right now.

this is technically true, but it's not why lemmygrad, ran by full on communists, chose the .ml tld

Well since we're on Lemmy....

https://lemmyverse.net/communities?order=active&nsfw=null < the best way to find active communities and instances on Lemmy.

4.8/5 on the apple store, Lol.

honestly reading this, it just sounds to me like he isn't cut out for community management. It is stressful and hard sometimes, so I get it, but he's going to kill his own site doing this. I did wonder about this before - it seemed like to me he regularly made changes based on feedback on a whim, and these changes were often rushed without much thinking. Needs to know when to pass the baton elsewhere and stick to development, but alas...

The last comments also speak to someone who's probably hiding some contrarian views of his own.

Shame.

That's not what Reddit is anymore, maybe if this idea was proposed 10 years ago they'd consider it, but it's just not an open space anymore.

Would be cool though

Copying an older comment of mine,

Born into wealth. This is honestly the most likely answer

Beneficial living situation (e.g living with parents) that allows them to save up a significant amount while having minimal expenses. Eventually, they can just take all that money and travel for months on end.

A job that travels with them. Successful vloggers make money through their vlogging, for example

I made a list of good casual Lemmy communities recently that you might find helpful :)

Yes I know, the owners of lemmygrad/lemmy.ml created lemmy

Uhh yes? Hard drives are expensive and so is cloud storage

credible

it was never credible lol

It doesn't. I don't think about it at all, honestly. Faith doesn't play a role in my life.

I'm really confused by this direction? The admin seemed... nice, and all of the users were "let's all be friends and be postivive x!" type people. Not exactly the place for "free speech" dog wistle folks. He's just going to alienate his entire userbase, I don't understand the point.

Lemmy is still in that early link aggregator stage, Reddit was like this too for awhile.

as the saying goes, be the change you wish to see...

Lemmit.online is just a bot reposting from Reddit, I'd ignore those ones

Worth noting it is not affiliated with the original dev. This guy forked it and took the name.

The root cause of this is Islamic jihadism sprawling out of control across the Sahel. it's causing a ton of instability and governments are struggling to withstand it.

Bonus: don't have time and want to just auto-subscribe to all* (mostly, I forgot to add some I think) of these communities (please note this isn't reversible without manually unsubbing yourself, there's a lot of niche communities here that may not appeal to you - you can remove them from the JSON file if needed)?

  • On PC, download this JSON file.
  • On PC, download Lemmy Migration Tool
  • Enter instance name and login details, upload JSON.
  • It'll automatically subscribe you to them all. If it looks like it's frozen, it hasn't. Just let it run. If you're on a small instance, you may need to re-run it a couple times (it can error if your instance hasn't discovered the community yet, this is solved on a rerun).
  • Note: this will change your lemmy settings (e.g disable NSFW). No way around this, change back if needed.

Of course, some may not be of interest or may overload your feed (meme communities can do this). Unsubscribe as needed.

I wrote this list for a curious person on the other site. It took me awhile, figured I'd share. Finding these places takes more time than I'd care to admit so... hopefully it saves you some, Lol. It's not an exhaustive list by any means, but is mostly places I find of interest and/or I think has good content. But there's definitely others out there I have missed (either intentionally or not). Lemmyverse is a great resource for finding new places.

My rough criterion was:

  • Of interest to me or a wide audience
  • Has a decent amount of activity, at least a single page worth of posts.
  • Casual / fun / interesting / cool / funny / chatty communities.
  • 0 negativity/negative vibes, news, politics, overload of tech or niche tech news/info, etc.

Shame. Saw this instance get some decent support on Reddit, it was also one of the few prominent ones that wasn't blocked by anyone nor blocked anyone.

it's a live, collaborative art project. On reddit, you'd have hundreds/thousands of people all contributing at once.

you have a blank page, you click on page to place coloured pixel. Wait 5 mins to place another.

Just use qBittorrent and integrate Jackett search into it. You can search all your favourite torrent sites within seconds. The best casual setup out there

Ethernet will probably always be better.

My custom URL works fine for me. Zlibrary never went down really, there were always alternative ways to access the site and that still stands. The TOR site is still up and running too.

respect

Most of them seem to be moving to discuit, another centralised platform, Lol

!piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com

It's blocked from lemmy.world. I'd recommend using LASIM and migrating to another instance like https://lemm.ee/ (note: you will need to manually resubscribe to !piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com on your new account, since LASIM won't be able to see it).

You'll see similar results on literally any link aggregator app. It's not the app itself that's tracking you...

Just block the tracking and boom, problem solved.

That's not a copy of the main piracy community, that's another piracy community that's hosted on lemmy.world

The community people are talking about is !piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com, which is no longer accessible via lemmy.world

It appears !piracy@lemmy.ml is also blocked.

Search for communities that interest you! It's just like Reddit, once you curate your own experience you'll enjoy it :) check out my list of casual/fun communities on Lemmy, or browse Lemmyverse for a list of all of them.

That's why I unsubscribed from that community. Problem solved, tbh. Just block/unblock as needed if it disrupts the all feeds.

Deezer is a streaming service like Spotify. Unlike Spotify, you can download directly from Deezer using piracy tools such as Deezloader. The user then presumably uploaded these to FunkWhale, so as to own their own local collection.

0 people who struggle for money would pass up on an extra 100k a year in return for slapping an ad banner on a page

keep in mind this guy doesn't run any affiliate links or donations either. He's sitting on a literal goldmine, this isn't some niche project.

"Hot" is the best sort type imo

Either block the community or block the bot. The latter is the better option, imo.

This is doable in-app, go to the bots profile page and there should be a block button.

I believe it was a proposed UI for mobile reddit that they didn't stick with.

Not sure what app this is but you can,

  1. Block the individual communities and/or users.
  2. Subscribe to communities you wanna see and then browse via your subscriptions feed
  3. Disable/blur NSFW content in your settings.
