A friend of mine got fucked by a local pizza place after the waitress changed a tip by adding a comma and a few zeros.

Pizza place refused to refund, credit card company wouldn't cancel the transaction because it was too large. We had to start a social media campaign to shame the place into refunding him. They turned a $15 tip into a $1,500 tip.

So I definitely appreciate stuff like this

I help companies sell products on Amazon.

One sold protein powder. Product title says "25g of protein". First bullet point says "25g of protein per serving". Main image of the product clearly shows "25g protein" on the label. Second image makes it more clear with "25 Grams of Protein Per Serving" in big bold letters. The A+ content (images in product description) repeat this information in big bold letters as well. Both the image gallery and the A+ content showed a picture of the supplement facts panel. The top rated review for the product called out that they liked the 25g of protein per serving.

Customer messages me, "How much protein per serving? Doesn't say anywhere on the listing."

Rage. Instant, immediate, and intense rage.

My company is complete work from home. The issue is that people can't imagine coworkers talking to each other and being friends while working remotely.

I spend half of most days in spontaneous voice chats with coworkers where we have these exact same moments. Spontaneous discussions leading to ideas that change the way we do things.

It's not exclusive to being in an office. You just need to adapt to a new work style.

Reproduction of copyrighted material would be breaking the law. Studying it and using it as reference when creating original content is not.

I had a car with push button start and a CVT. After putting the first 50 miles on the car, the brake light switch died. Nissan, in their ultimate wisdom, used the brake light switch to tell the computer if you are pressing the brake when starting the car. Well, no brake light switch, no starting the engine. Had to get it towed back to the dealership to get fixed.

I now have a real key and a manual transmission.

It's definitely written by someone who's never used a VR headset. It only takes a second to realize that these screens are nowhere near the resolution of your eye. Ya know, cause small text that would be easily read on my phone is blurry as fuck on a VR headset

Worked at a company where I built their entire Amazon sales channel. Literally brought in millions in revenue. Dealt with a lot of shit throughout, and didn't get paid nearly enough.

They had been dangling the promise of a bonus structure or commission in front of me for a year.

Boss flipped out over stupid shit regularly.

Throughout COVID, they expected us to be in office. This went as well as could be expected and the office became a huge transmission vector.

But what finally did it was being brought into the owner's office and getting told "We just bought this company. We need you to learn their 3PL system, learn their website backend, and manage their inventory levels. If this goes well, you might even get a raise in a few months."

I was gone within a month.

That's a weird take. The shopping part is provided to you for free for your convenience. Not returning the shopping cart means you are creating a nuisance for other people who are coming to the store to get the things that they need. It is blocking parking spots, potentially going to damage somebody's car, and no longer in a centralized location.

Not returning it is inconsiderate in multiple ways.

If you can make a dynamo, you can make a motor. Now, you aren't about to create Tesla. But there's plenty of things back in the day that could benefit from being motorized.

So she didn't bring live rounds on set and put those live rounds in a prop gun intended for actors in a movie?

My security deposit was returned to me with interest added.

I was told not to paint anything because they do that whenever someone leaves as standard practice.

Sometimes apartments aren't bad.

If you read the article, you would see that larger diesel engines have lower emissions due to reduced compression ratios.

I'm in the US and have these windows. They have screens. They're also not that special. I prefer the regular windows

I think HR is just ill equipped for technical interviews, but they try to conduct them regardless.

Was denied a position because HR felt my experience "lacked depth" which I still can't understand 3 years later.

Did the same role at a larger company. Had more responsibility than they were giving me. Developed my own tools for job automation. Grew their business from nothing to half a mil a month. Experienced all stages of growth and realized massive success.

After that interview I kept getting technical interviews and getting passed on because I was too senior for the position

It looks like you're just so engrained with hate for Musk that you're literally denying reality.

I used to fly a lot. I'm at the point where I board the plane, sit, close my eyes, and wake up when we start pulling into the gate at our destination.

I don't use a neck pillow or anything. Usually just grab a water bottle before boarding, because my mouth gets crazy dry.

Get your thyroid checked out. Turns out major depressive disorder can be brought on by hypothyroidism. Who knew?

I don't even let them in the room. Housekeeping left the door to my room open once for the entire day. I was across from the elevator. Thankfully nothing was stolen, but ya know, fool me once

The issue is simply reproduction of original works.

Plenty of people mimic the style of other artists. They do this by studying the style of the artist they intend to mimic. Why is it different when a machine does the same thing?

While I would like to be in a world where knowledge is free, this is apples and oranges.

OpenAI can purchase a textbook and read it. If their AI uses the knowledge gained to explain maths to an individual, without reproducing the original material, then there's no issue.

The difference is the student in your example didn't buy their textbook. Someone else bought it and reproduced the original for others to study from.

If OpenAI was pirating textbooks, that would be a wholly separate issue.

I mean, I don't think it's an easy thing to fix. How do you eliminate bias in the training data without eliminating a substantial percentage of your training data. Which would significantly hinder performance.

These guys tried to get a previous employer of mine to advertise with them. It works great if your entire audience is tech bros. Ours was not.

They are notoriously bad. And they don't get fixed. Got my Subaru and

  1. The radio defaults to SiriusXM every time I turn on the car, even though I do not pay for it and do not want to.
  2. Android Auto and Apple Car Play would cut out regularly
  3. Eventually the entire system would just randomly crash and reboot frequently throughout a trip.
  4. Found out there was a TSB out on the radio for frequent issues, and had to get it warrantied.
  5. Even with the new radio, I have occasional issues with Apple Car Play freezing
  6. I can't have both an android and iPhone connected at the same time, because I won't be able to use Android Auto, I'm forced into Car Play

And on the new cars Subaru made the screen narrow and tall. This effectively reduced the amount of screen space for Android Auto/car play in comparison with prior years.

Add to that the entire display is now needed for HVAC, heated seats, etc and do you really want to depend on a glitchy computer that frequently crashes?

I'm in the US. I remember being told it was a thing on Verizon. But I've used my mobile hotspot many times and never had an issue.

Always was. How tf do you think they make money

Majority of products are not sold by Amazon. Some sellers use price automation software, some use built-in functionality provided by Amazon. Amazons built in functionality allows sellers to set competitive prices relative to other sellers on Amazon.

It has nothing to do with page views, clicks, or cart adds. Sellers cannot see cart adds in real time.

Mostly fine. Some people will kill other players to take the samples they collect (in game credits for upgrades) which is just silly because all credits are shared by all players.

30 years old. US. I can and do drive a stick shift.

Really hard coming from a family with only automatic cars. Very few people have stick cars, and even fewer are willing to teach you in their own car.

Can't even rent a stick shift to practice on. Your best bet is to sign up with a driving school that offers stock shift lessons, which I almost did.

Instead, a buddy of mine was kind enough to let me practice for 2 hours with him in a beater he had. Then I went and picked up my brand new WRX. Stalled like 12 times on the way home. But I figured it out!!

Then every single student graduating college produces derivative work.

Everything that required the underlying knowledge gained from the textbooks studied, or research papers read, is derivative work.

At the core of this, what are we saying? Your machine could only explain calculus because it was provided information from multiple calculus textbooks? Well, that applies to literally everyone.

Wow didn't see that the first time

Seems like you have a few misconceptions.

My house is definitely not cheaply built. Yes it is wooden. Termites are rarely an issue for homeowners. Different building materials have different pros and cons.

I've never seen a house anywhere in the United States with no insulation.

And you pay for education the same way we do. Taxes.

It's worse than you think. As an advertiser, I can actually buy targeted product placements in shows. So, let's say I'm Google, and I know you recently searched for a Google Pixel. If I pay for product placements in the next Prime show, I can get all the phones to be Pixels when you watch it.

But if your friend searched for an iPhone, and he gets targeted by apple, the phones in the show could be iPhones.

The ability to win the buy box is exceptionally predictable.

It is based on a combination of factors. The price point, fulfillment method, shipping cost, and feedback provided by customers about each individual seller.

If I am the brand owner, using Fulfillment by Amazon, have the lowest price, and good seller feedback, I will win.

If you come on the listing a lower price, no shipping cost, and equivalent feedback, but you are shipping the item yourself and have a slightly lower feedback rating, you will not win the buy box.

The system is not rigged against the customer. Amazon is attempting to improve the customer experience, with price just being part of it

Coming from C++ and Java over to Python was challenging. The IDE I used at the time also did not like when I used tabs instead of spaces, which drove me up a wall.

I will say that for beginners where python is their first language, it does a good job at reinforcing good practices for writing legible code.

Eh, but how much of that is tourist visas. And where are they coming from.

I'm of the opinion that an open border with Mexico is an issue. Which just should not be controversial.

But I'm also married to someone who entered with a tourism visa. Legal immigration is nearly impossible in the US. There are very very few options for a person to enter the country and be on a path to a green card. Saying otherwise is purely ignorant.

Why do you block instances? Sorry, new here

Yeah. In my experience you're still getting all of your classwork and you're getting instruction. But you're isolated from your peers.

In this instance especially it's fucking stupid. But in theory his education is not being completely interrupted by this bullshit

Honestly, it extends beyond creative works.

OpenAI should not be held back from subscribing to a research publication, or buying college textbooks, etc. As long as the original works are not reproduced and the underlying concepts are applied, there are no intellectual property issues. You can't even say the commercial application of the text is the issue, because I can go to school and use my knowledge to start a company.

I understand that in some select scenarios, ChatGPT has been tricked into outputting training data. Seems to me they should focus on fixing that, as it would avoid IP issues moving forward.

American with these windows. I have screens. I also don't like them very much.
