I agree for the most part. However, in my effort to post content, I've gotten more than a few snarky or mean comments about the quality of the content. I get it if it's not for you but just down vote. You don't need to make the person feel bad for trying to help Lemmy grow.

You don't have to set yourself on fire to keep others warm.

A drink cooler. It spins cans of soda for about 30 seconds to cool them. The problem is that it required about 30 pieces of ice to use and was pretty large. Not worth it.

Someone greeting me with excitement and enthusiasm. There's so much wonderfulness in being welcomed.

I love the satisfaction of completing a film list like the AFI top 100 or Sight and Sound's top 100. I enjoy watching, discussing, and learning more about the films.

Totally agreed. I got this advice to "Take care of your teeth" when I was 20. My professor just said "You'll never regret it." I took that to heart. Why wouldn't I do something I'll never regret!?

I made a plan, broke that plan up into achievable goals, and then persevered until I reached them. I made sure to learn how to pause instead of giving up too.

Mr. Wrong starring Ellen Degeneres as a straight woman looking for the man of her dreams. Yeah. Fucking terrible.

The good news is that research shows that if you do reach out you'll very likely receive a warm reception. So, give it a try!

Lots of great responses so far. I like to go with:

I hear you

Obviously they know my ears work but I want them to know that I am focused and connected.

This is a totally normal response. Check out the book The Other Side of Sadness by George Bonanno if you want to learn more!

Me too! I was walking around the fish market in Seattle and walked right by him. My partner then said "Wasn't that the guy from the car show that you watch?" I doubled back and met him. Just said hello and shook his hand.

Same for mine! I have multiple big cities around me to choose from without having to live in a big city. I also have access to the airports in those big cities, which is also a big plus.

Same for me. I switch back and forth between them. I just uninstalled Summit, Jerboa, and Liftoff today.

Thanks for this prompt. Reading this thread was the first time I felt like I was on reddit since I've joined this instance. I laughed and learned.

Totally agreed. I had to explain to my partner that they were not my best friend. My partner is my partner and my friend is my friend. They have different roles and responsibilities. Took some time for my partner to get used to, especially since they don't have a best friend.

Careless Whisper - Wham!

Well known song with a great chorus that people will groove to.

I would love this too

As someone who recently joined, it's been great to see all the books available. A caveat: there are a LOT of rules to follow. They can be difficult to follow if you deviate from the norm, such as using a VPN. They aren't insurmountable but they take time to adjust to.

One rule that was strange at first: You can't download anything you want right away. You have to earn points first in the community and over time you will gain access to the bulk of the library.

Awesome! I recommend that you listen to the Unspooled podcast as you go along. It's nice to hear some critical (and funny thoughts) about the films, especially the really laborious ones like Intolerance. Good luck and happy viewing!

While I don't agree with everything he says, I think that the bulk of his observations are accurate and well-stated.

I'm doing my part!

It took me years to recover from that first film. I still feel the fear when I just see a picture of his face and I'm a full grown adult.

I eat a meal that I really love slowly. Enjoy every bite. Describe in detail (in your head) why they bite was special.

Would you be willing to share, please?

I genuinely want to use it but I have no idea how or even how to start. Any advice?

Agreed. Enjoy your life and food. Don't let others shame you for it.

All of them!

That's exactly what I try to do for my friends and family. I want their first thought when they are near me is "I'm wanted".

The Best Years of Our Lives (1946). I knew nothing going in and just enjoyed. It was modern and thought-provoking about war and what we owe our veterans. The coolest part is that it asks the tough questions about a war that few of us question as being necessary (World War II).

Across the Spiderverse was absolutely amazing too but I expected that and it surpassed my expectations.

I would want the ability to ask any question and I could see/know the answer instantly. I like to imagine using this on the train to work. I can just think to myself "I wonder how many people Brushed their teeth this morning" and the ones who did would light up. Or, I could ask, "I wonder how many sexual partners each person has had" and their number would appear over their head for only me to see. Good times...

Was this all in one go or do you just have a local theater that really loves to show it?

Wow. Another fan of Death to Smoochy out in the wild. That's the response I would give to Brett Goldstein on his podcast for my favorite film that was not beloved by critics. I may go watch it now...

I remember being the kid at the salad bar at school who would just load up on croutons and cheese. I felt like I was the only one that didn't like anything that I saw there!

I have a similar setup. The only strange thing is that one house always seems to have buffer issues while the rest don't (they'll start a show and it will buffer every few minutes). What would you recommend in that situation kind stranger?

I may need to do that. I suggest that everyone stream the original file to avoid transcoding but they just may need to do it. Thanks!

I'd be happy to help support others to get to space but I'll stay home. I just have no interest in it.

If We Were Vampires by Jason Isbell.

Haunting lyrics about the how short the time is with the ones we love.

I wish there was an easy way to watch the non-main four sports like tennis. I would love to watch the early matches at Wimbledon but it's really difficult!

I'm doing the same thing. I have no allegiance like I did with RiF. If one isn't working, I'll just move. Give them some time to work out the kinks.
