One of their ideas is allow private match/self hosted online services for any game that shuts down it's servers.
All I've seen since carbon offsets became a thing is how a lot of the projects were either ineffective or outright scams. The idea itself doesn't incentivise the large carbon producers to actually reduce their emissions, but simply pay to say they are carbon neutral so they can slap it on their website for some positive pr.
It seems to be public knowledge. I hadn't heard of this either. Yet another in a long line of companies doing shitty things and I'm sure a lot of money spent to make sure this didn't become household knowledge.
I've had a few drivers do this in the US and it has always been a huge cost savings. Uber gives a smaller and smaller cut the the drivers from what I'm hearing. I miss the early days when rides were cheap, driver kept the lions share of the fare and no one was expected to tip.
Our immune systems are both one of the most fascinating things about us and for those with autoimmune issues like myself, the most annoying. Always good to see articles like this and I'm glad this focused on the actual science.
I'd love to sign up for the trial if they ever test it for vitiligo. There are wayyy more serious autoimmune issues that can and should be tested first for those truly suffering. Mine is just "hey look at weird color boy".
I originally read this as "what are you nostalgic about" and was confused by all the responses.
I am certainly not nostalgic about smoking sections in restaurants. Those half ass dividers that did nothing and the whole place smelling like an ash tray was not fun.
I was curious about the Buffalo Wild Wings story mentioned. Basically BDubs is calling boneless white meat chicken breast 'boneless wings'. Wing meat is more expensive and BDubs has been charging wing prices. Lawsuit makes sense.
Glad to see these lawsuits coming more frequently. We've all ordered a burger or pizza that looks nothing like the advertised image.
Phones charging use such little power I'd really be surprised if anyone cared. It really depends on the place. A library I would have no issue plugging in anything without asking. I can't say I've ever been at the doctors and considered charging my phone though I may ask out of courtesy if I did simply because I like my doctor. Overall I'd say it wouldn't be a big deal either way.
Chinese kids going to be walking around with 8 smartphones like some of those people early in the Pokemon Go days. Long Huawei.
"Originally placed under house arrest, he was sent to jail in August for violations of his bail conditions, including using a VPN to watch a football game and leaking the diary entries of his ex-girlfriend"
Ok I get the diary, that's shitty...but using a VPN to watch football? That's a normal Saturday afternoon.
For anyone in the market for a printer: brother.
A real video game set up. I have 17 consoles in the house and over 450 games.
I even have the old CRT TV with an AV switcher hooked up so I can switch between consoles quickly without having to mess with any wires.
Just got done playing about 3 hours via game pass and it is quite fun.
It is much more a survival game than pokemon. You put your pokemon (called 'Pals') to work on what is essentially your farm. It is much more a survival game as you are always looking for resources and crafting the next thing for your homestead. I have yet to shoot a gun, currently rocking a spear, bow and arrow, pick axe (for mining), and axe (for chopping wood).
I have ventured off my base twice and you do come across a wide variety of creatures once you venture far enough and there are small towns, people, many creatures, and more materials the further out you traverse. There appears to be 'bosses' as there are marked high level creatures and even gangs that will occasionally raid your base.
I could see myself sinking a lot of time into it as it does take a bit to get your base running smoothly to generate the needed materials without too much manual work on your part.
You have a party of 5 creatures but can only have one out at a time. You start with another creature at your base working and as you level gain more slots for more creatures to work for you. It's kinda funny because you basically beat the shit out of these creatures, capture them, and then put them to work at your base.
All in all I hope development continues to expand on this game as it's got a solid foundation and I'm not generally someone attracted to survival type games. I'm looking forward to continuing to level up and see what the game has to offer.
I agree with you but there are more ethical ways to eat meat while also saving money. Last year my wife and I purchased 1/4 of an entire cow from a farm about 35 miles north of us (friends and family bought the other 3/4). This cow was responsibly raised, grass fed, on a small, local farm. We received 200 pounds of meat with probably a dozen different cuts of meat. This includes dozens of pounds of excellent steak and the meat is simply amazing. We will definitely be going this route moving forward as we averaged the price per pound to ~$4/lb which is far less than the local grocery.
I understand this isn't possible for everyone as we also had to purchase a chest freezer which requires space but has made our grocery bill far smaller and the meat we are eating much better in many ways.
That sucks but it's not a dick move on your part. Was literally talking to a coworker who did that to a friend decades ago (he's in his early 60s) and said he would basically shack up in everyone's basement until they kicked him out. Sometimes weeks, sometimes months, living off others good will until none was left.
For how absurd the situation is, everyone involved is ridiculously calm.
My wife bakes, reads, and does pilates.
I'm lazy so I play video games and drink. Though I've reduced the booze intake and tried reading at least 1 book every 8 weeks. I'm also trying to be more consistent at the gym 2-3x per week instead of 2-3 times per month which inadvertently became the norm the past few years.
We both like board games, puzzles, and a good binge of a show we both like. Also sex.
I think I have both your problems solved. If money isn't an issue the bureaucracy is a nuisance but not inhibiting as you can pay someone to file all the appropriate paperwork. The language barrier is even easier. I have been to Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland and did not meet a single person that didn't fluently speak English. Not saying they don't exist, but operating in most any western European country is very easy as an English speaker. Also you'll pick up the language over time. Immersion is the best way to learn a language, or so I hear.
My yard looks nicer. My dog gets 2-3 walks a day instead of 1-2. Also porn.
Human. After all.
Craigslist for basic stuff is pretty chill these days. List as local pick up only, ignore anyone asking you to ship it or doing anything weird, and arrange a local pick up in a police station parking lot or in the middle of the day at the gas station of your local mega-grocery chain. 60% of the time, it works every time. I give a lot of my old crap to goodwill and may occasionally sell something on eBay but that's rare, like mr. clean with hair.
That's really cool. I already foresee Americans intentionally breaking them and finding ways for people to get their phones stuck in there to be assholes and for internet likes.
Sony ultimately sets the price. They were $60 at launch but most video game accessories and even games now have increased from the standard $60 people got used to to now $65 and $70. I don't have a link but I recall reading that inflation adjusted, gaming has held up very well as there were games back in the N64 era and maybe before that sold for $60-70+.
Only other thought is Sony has moved on to PS5 and they make less of the controllers which in turn makes them more expensive to produce and thus increase in cost to the end consumer. I know Xbox has done a good job making controllers from the Xbox One generation to the current gen all work very easily together. I don't think Sony has done the same thing.
I've refused to hook my TV up to the internet. Massive bloatware and spyware machine. I bought high end. Samsung 70" top of the line last year. But everything I watch is though a jailbroken 4k firestick or straight up on disc.
It's a pain in the ass to switch inputs. THERES NO INPUT BUTTON. It wants to choose FOR ME what input I'm using based off the most recent input. Lick my balls. I'll switch from the first stick to the Xbox but if the fire stick is still streaming I'll choose the Xbox and it'll switch back to the firestick. Fuck you. I can't even imagine if I let that thing connect to the internet. It'd probably want a huge update, send everything I watch back to hq, and then try to show me ads. Fuck you Koreans.
It's a great tv. Top of the line picture quality. But it's about as good as it gets in this age. If I was more tech savvy I could probably make it better but I'm not.
This one is pretty hilarious. I would 100% assume you're buying booze for people you are way too young to be hanging out with.
I buy a 6 pack of smirnoff ice once per year. My buddy loves golfing on his birthday and I hide ices throughout his bag, cart, and course because even in our mid 30s it's funny to see someone chug an ice while on one knee.
Those teddies would fit perfectly in the next Silent Hill game.
I'm gonna catch hate for this but I enjoy golf. I don't play often, 5-10 times per year at most however nothing beats a day out with the boys, plenty of beer and joints, and smacking lil balls around with crooked sticks.
Having said that my local muni 5 min down the road has 3 18 hole courses. They shut one down a little over 4 years ago and didn't know what to do with it, so in the meantime, being county owned land, they turned it into a park. They didnt change anything. The first year was odd, it felt like you were walking on a golf course with a broken lawn mower. Now, 4 years later, it's completely wild and I love it. Some trees have begun to crack and grow through the pathways and there is so much wildlife everywhere from deer to coyotes to birds and so many small mice and chipmunks.
It really is quite peaceful and beautiful out there. The county decided to permanently leave as a park and it feels like a small escape from everyday life. There are about 5 miles of trails as well as a connection to an adjacent park with a couple more miles of wooded trails and a small lake for catch and release fishing. The maintenance there is next to zero and it rarely ever has more than 4 or 5 cars in the lot, making it rare to see anyone out there. I take my dog out there at least 2-3 times per week.
I fully support returning unused land back to nature. It's quite exciting to see it slowly transform over time.
Merry Christmas Clark.
So I've noticed spam comes in waves. My gmail account will go months and be more or less fine and then in a period of a week I'll get several dozen spam emails like "HoMe DePoT PoWeR DrIlL WiNnER" and the like. I always report spam and block.
My hotmail account on the other hand. I stopped checking and migrated every important account to gmail because I was getting spamming by the dozen every single day.
Just cancelled my prime subscription today. It was set to renew on Friday. I've been with prime for close to 10 years.
I don't see any value. The price has nearly doubled since originally signing up. The free two day shipping was nice but more and more 2 days is 3-4 and I can get free shipping anyway on any order over $35 without prime so I'll just build up my cart and be patient or order from another place.
The video content was nice but they're fucking joking if they think I'm going to watch ads or pay $3 more per month to not have ads. I can easily pirate most content including live sports and they're making it far less convenient to be part of their ecosystem.
I get my books from the library and store my photos locally.
The literal only downside i see is my buddy won't get his twitch prime subscription from me every month so I guess I'm costing him like $2/month but he's got several hundred so he'll do without.
You see that a lot for sure. One show that stands out in my mind of continually moving the plot forward is Breaking Bad. The 'villain' changes throughout the show, Walt has an evolving relationship with Skylar and Walt Jr, and motives change as well for Walt and Jesse. Completely different show from beginning to end.
SPOILER: it's a well known fact that season 1 was shortened due to the last writers strike and had that not happened Jesse would have been killed off at the end of the season. This show very well could have suffered the same fate OP prescribes to most shows since Jesse is so pivotal to the shows overall success. So maybe we should look for shows who's first season is currently being cut short by this writer's strike and that will be the next great show.
This went from a cool concept of "people liked Black Flag let's spin off of that" through years of development hell to whatever this is. Sucks, coulda been cool.
Statute of limitations is why they're getting off.
You are correct, a turret. You and my wife have the same dream. She wants to put a bunch of pillows on the nook and read.
Great. My older bro is one of my best friends. He lives halfway across the country but I'm excited for him to move much closer next year when their lease is up. My younger brother and I play Xbox nearly every day together even though he lives 12 hours away. My two younger sisters live two houses down and we are very close. My older sister lives about 40 min away and is probably the sibling I am most distant from emotionally but we still get along and see each other several times a year.
Fo sho. My buddy bought one and talked it up. I tried it out as I was interested in a new chair since my work from home ability had recently increased from 25% to 50% arouns 2018. My broke ass 10+ year old chair from college was wayyy more comfortable. Invested in a ~$250 office chair after that. Have had it for 5 years, work from home 75% of the time, amazingly comfortable and it still looks like new.
Old folks mostly. My mom still has a tradition (and wildly overpriced) tv package. They do use a couple of my streaming services though and really like it, my step dad just finished Breaking Bad on netflix and loved it.
My dad finally broke away few years ago and went to YouTube tv. I actually split that cost with him since it's the simplist way to watch football and it's the only streaming service I pay for.
The average age of my clients at work is 65-70. While I don't survey every client, it does seem most I talk to when the conversation comes up still have traditional cable packages. They're comfortable with it, kinda like a comfort show you watch on repeat or the nightly news they've been watching for 50 years, it's part of their daily routine.
Haha I've never seen this, have no idea where it's from, but I love it.
Doggy and zoophilia
Return that immediately. I worked for gamestop for about 6 years from 11-16. It was a horribly run company that should be a relic of the past like circuit city and blockbuster. Executive management would rather make tiny profits than make pro-consumer changes that would draw in gamers (things like tournaments were actively discouraged).
I really hated that gamestop became a meme stock. It meant executive made a lot of money from no effort on their own. I would have much rather seen their shares go to zero and then get bought for pennies on the dollar, leaving the top brass on their ass.
