Expand and term-limit SCOTUS. Why does a branch of the government operate this way?

Yeah because who wants black kids to feel welcome at Disney World? /s

Someone pleas explain the mental state of these people if they’re pissed that Pence -by Trump’s own admission- was being “honest” by not handing him the election.

Depends on what you mean by being treated well. The tech industry typically has fantastic office spaces, benefits and pay, but generally speaking they get overworked and under appreciated.

Social work, public health, education and that kind of “good for the world” work (not sure how to lump it all together) typically has bad pay, long hours, and unpleasant work spaces, but a really high degree of appreciation by their coworkers, superiors and clients.

Just some examples I’m familiar with

Oh shit! That was one of my favorite things on Reddit. Maybe I should go ba-Wait a minute…

Lemmy.World is back up and the admin who got hacked is claiming it’s fixed. However, REMAIN CAUTIOUS. No other admins have confirmed that it’s fixed. Could easily be the hacker pretending to be the admin.

Lots of discussion happening over on kbin. It’s not clear if any user data has been stolen but some commenters are doubtful. The most important thing is we should not trust links on that site as they could be malware.

Yeah I mean it’s a lot harder to take back your territory if you’re limited to only fighting within that territory. They’ll have to strike within Russian borders to successfully get their own land back.

Charles de Gaulle Airport. Nothing more to be said

Also the ugliest

Well yeah. I guess my question should be “why do we learn indigo and violet when we learn about the rainbow”. It’s more cultural

“Heavier than any other creature, including the dinosaurs”… this author doesn’t seem to know that blue whales are heavier than any of the dinosaurs.

Pretty par for the economist. Not the same take as every other news outlet, not exactly the take I agree with on all points, but not totally wrong either.

Thanks. How would they ever get away with that? Aren’t electoral college members selected way in advance? I know they aren’t legally required to vote the way their constituents want, but if a state replaced one altogether with a stooge, wouldn’t their vote just not count?

Lol I guess I should have specified I’m referring to the Trump 2020 scheme that’s in the news today

I sure hope so, but I learned not to underestimate how cynical they can get. They’ll try to do some really slimy shot before they allow a collapse, and unfortunately the system is rigged just enough that it might work.

I think a good strategy is to start on Lemmy.World until you discover a solid list of communities you want to follow. Then switch to a smaller instance that aligns with your interests and bring all your subscriptions with you.

If you start on a small instance you’ll have to do a lot more work to discover communities, since they mostly won’t appear in your All feed. Plus, you’re doing that small instance a favor by bringing interesting communities to their All feed.

Reality has a known liberal bias

You’re right. It only just came up in my feed but it’s old. I’ll take my comment down to avoid confusion.

Linked in a comment within that post, this appears to be an extremely comprehensive list:

Agreed. The quotes from the press conference here make it seem like they’re rotating troops, not adding more or prepping for something hung new.

Yeah the All feed shows you the communities that you and all your instance-mates follow, but not every community in existence.

It matters a lot. It’s also something for the 24-hour news cycle to report on before/instead of polling

You’re going to have to accept that it’ll hurt for a long time. Give yourself some grace and let yourself be heartbroken for as long as you need. It sucks, but you’ll snap out of it eventually.

Two things that will probably help:

  1. Hang out with people you like
  2. Do things that make you proud of what you did that day

It’s easy to skip into a hole and wallow there. While you have to let yourself grieve, you also have to put in the work to have a constructive life. Treat it as a responsibility to get up and do something each day.

Different personal preferences I guess!

Thanks. Is that a term?

Have you figured out an efficient way to mirror your community subscription list between them?

Might be hard to find another asshole who’s as ruthless about loopholes and dirty tricks. I’d say there’s a 90% chance that replacing him weakens the republicans.

Amen. The “AI” everyone is freaking out about is good at a narrow range of things, but either dumb as shit or completely incapable otherwise

I really want to see a data viz of whether/how much users are spreading out. Anyone got the data on user counts over time by instance?

I doubt this describes most Fox News viewers. I suspect a majority of them fall into a third category of “blind believers”. Fox News tells them the indictments are a sham, they believe it’s a sham. Especially when it’s sandwiched between two things that make them angry.

Fixed. Thanks

It’s not that they want to burn it down because they’re a dying breed. They’re trained to hate and be angry the other side and that’s all that motivates them.

I’m sorry, what’s new about this? Wasn’t it obvious that the Jan 6 inquiry was about him and would ultimately request him to appear before a grand jury?

It’s true that several instances (the ones hosted in Mali?) closed, but I think you’re premature in saying the smaller instances are disappearing, Lemmy.one included.

Sure, they’re bound to crash or go down for maintenance from time to time, but that doesn’t mean they’re finished. So far my experience has been that if you give it a couple days they’ll be back. Keep in mind these are shoestring operations and sometimes seeing major influxes of users.

Really love Mander

Until that other one goes down, then memmy really struggles to let you in. At least that’s what happened to me.

False. It is illegal to discriminate against someone based on race, religion or sex, according to Title 2 of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

America was at a crossroads of what freedom really meant 60 years ago, not today. It is now long-established law that freedom is the ability to shop wherever.

All that is up for debate is whether sexual orientation should be included, despite not being explicitly included. Textualists say no, intentionalists say yes.

I think they basically have built up a tolerance to those bacteria. They probably got sick at some point and survived.
