Holy christ, there's no going back now, lol. This is BEAUTIFUL.

Is it possible to add infinite scrolling?

Actually, I see it in the options 😃

Endless Scrolling + Auto Load More

One thing I can say so far after a few hours is that their advertising department and Inon Zur did a masterful job capturing a whimsical aesthetic that nostalgically reminds me of some educational TV space shows like Cosmos.

Now that I'm playing the game, it feels significantly more clunky than that, and I haven't gotten as immersed into that aesthetic as I had hoped. Really just FEELS like Fallout in space so far, which is a bit disappointing.

There's also significantly more load screens than I had hoped. I've been spoiled by No Man's Sky, thought we'd be getting some seamless transitions to planets and cities. Seems bizarre that we just fast travel through the starmap.

In my opinion this is actually better than the CoC. The only thing "missing" is the definition of which qualities you shouldn't discriminate against. But that's now generalized into "groups of people".

I still can't discriminate against people based on any qualification. Hell, I technically can't discriminate against "pineapple on pizza eaters".

Disqualifying a candidate is the intended legal protection. Unfortunately, I'm not sure that will ever be used effectively if it's not done to Trump.

The word "radiation" has unfortunately been commandeered by idiots to mean "TOXIC MAGIC AIR". Lightbulbs radiate (produce light).

In this case they're 100% just reducing the gain on the phone's signal strength. No harm prevented. Purely regulatory.

As far as I understand;

A user is specific to one instance. In order to interact with the fediverse on that specific account, they need to log into that instance. If they're banned from that instance, they cannot log in and interact with the rest of the fediverse.

There's nothing stopping them from logging into an alt, whether on that same instance or on another instance.

T-Mobile users; be aware that T-Mobile has prepared for this and are trying to automatically transition grandfathered accounts with unlimited everything into their new plans.

I'm not 100% sure if the coverage of the new plans are technically worse, but they're definitely more expensive. And I wouldn't be surprised if the new plans had contact language to do a rug pull in the future.

You need to opt out of the transition.

It's because to Americans (including myself), .com is the US domain.

There's google.com and google.de. There's amazon.com and amazon.co.uk, etc.

.us is reserved for government's sites by social convention. Someone can have a private .us site, but it's a bit odd that they didn't just use the .com.

Rioting will come and go. Assuming a disqualification is recognized by enough people, then the noise makers will go back into the woodwork for a time.

There's a lot of misguided people out there who would vote for Trump if he was on a ballot but would not start a civil war if he was not.

I feel like it's true to say that we are the closest we've been to a civil war since the last, but that doesn't mean that the risk of civil war is high.

I mean, I'm not going to ask you to doxx yourself, but I'm extremely curious to know where you're seeing these homes that are, as you describe them, like 150 SqFt of livable area (10x10 studio + 5x8 bathroom) with an attached 3 car garage.

Edit: And to clarify, the 1500 was pulled out of an anecdotal average. My observations while shopping for homes here in the US have been; 2 bed / 1 bath, could be as small as 800 SqFt, but it's cramped. Whereas in middle-class suburbia, it's not uncommon to see 2500+ SqFt homes.

Wow, what an awe-inspiring counter-example, lol

On Reddit, I was mainly subscribed to a few niche subreddits. By reddit's standards, that's still like 100k subscribers. But over here, even though there might be 1000 people subscribed to those same niche communities, the 90-9-1 rule still applies. Either the community has one super-spammy power user trying to boost life into the community, or there's just no one actually posting anything.

I'm getting enough of a fix to stay on Lemmy and wade out the peace and quiet, but I do long for the engagement of 50k+ users on a truly niche topic. My willingness to stay on Lemmy has been helped by me starting to re-utilize off-site forums specifically to those niches. But I can totally understand how it just feels dead to a lot of the Reddit exodus.

Actually, in 2022 there were 94m barrels produced globally per day. So this is 2%. Statistically, not insignificant. Hopefully it'll continue to grow rapidly.

Yes, posts and comments are upvoteable even even not subscribed to their community. Subscribing only affects what content you see when you filter your feed to "subscribed".

Full disclosure, I've been labeled as an astroturfer because of my optimism for Threads federating. So, take that as you will.

But I think that there's a lot more nuance to it than what you've said. I personally don't defend Threads, but I do defend Threads federating. I'm on Lemmy specifically because I don't want to be on Threads. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't want to connect with Threads content and users.

The reduction in save file size is appreciated, but unfortunately it appears to be rather minimal. Just tested it on a couple of saves - after loading an existing file and immediately savings, looks like it went down from

  • End of Act 2 = 12.1MiB → 11.3MiB
  • Middle of Act 3 = 30.8MiB → 29.8MiB

So, only a 1MiB reduction it seems... So, still need to manage like 15 GiB of save files, lol

Form me personally, I'd have to say my automated espresso machine. For context; I was buying 1-2 coffees from a shop per day (let's say 10/week on average).

Cost me $700 on a sale. Grinds & presses the beans by itself, then pushes boiling water through to give me espresso shots. It paid for itself in 6 months of ownership by weening me off the local shops, and it's lasted for over 6 years so far.

Instead of ~$4.50 per coffee, it's like $24 for a bulk bag of beans at Costco that lasts me 3 weeks, and a carton of half-and-half that lasts me like a month. That's like $180/mo → $35/mo

That's not a shower thought you braindead, try hard, complete waste of a human.... Get off of here; there's no room for idiots here. Reported.

JK, just thought I'd channel my inner rage-commenter for old times sake. Welcome 😄

The correct answer is compressed air! Breath brings moisture, and compressed air blows the dust out much more efficiently!

I might be missing it, but is there a side-bar to view my subscribed communities? I think on old.reddit, there was a pop-out bar on the left side of the window (but that may have been from RES).

I finally broke the shackles of Baldurs Gate 3, and now I'm playing... Split screen Baldurs Gate 3 with my wife! It's genuinely just so good...

FYI this game is available on PS5! Also, if you've bought it on PS3 you should be able to download it on PS5 for free!

VOLCANO!

I used the phone app and started a chat. Here's what I asked, and their response:

I'm still rocking Jerboa on Android. It has been totally inoffensive, and I'll probably just stick with it until it offends me somehow.

Not just straight espresso shots. I drink Lattes and Breves. Typically larges, and truly strong (like 4 shots).

Prices have gone up even, but what I just described costs $8.65 at my local Starbucks. But even the cheaper local shops would charge me like $6 nowadays.

Are those all AI generated images? They seem wonky.

Gee, imagine if we trained our upcoming AI overlords that you can eat pianos and pandas, but not hamburgers, lol.

I guess with all things, depends on the financial position of the customer.

If you're stretching yourself to get any phone, then yeah, diminishing returns for forking out $800+ for a flagship.

That being said I've owned multiple phones in each price category, and can say that the best phones are unfortunately among the most expensive.

I was not expecting the caption on that last panel. Genuinely made me laugh out loud, lol.

I might be mistaken then, but doesn't part of Net Neutrality mean that telecommunication companies can't throttle unlimited plans?

My Pixel 7a nearly has this. The "Power" button by default does:

  • Short Press: Sleep/Wake

  • Long Press: Assistant

In order to actually get the power menu to pop up, you hold the power button + volume up. You can switch the behavior so that a long press can either be the assistant or the power menu, but otherwise not fully configurable. Feels like that would be an easy win to let us do whatever we want with it.

The language setting appears to be it! I opened the post in chrome and selected English, and it worked!

Thanks 🙂

I can attest that my comment was made in isolation. I intentionally didn't look at conversations or reviews and wanted a fresh experience all to myself. So I'm not parroting or trying to push some negative narrative.

Now that I've slept on it, I'm going to dive back in with my expectations reduced, and I'm hoping I'll have lots of fun with it.

I came over as a Reddit refugee, and really like the idea of fostering communities with like-minded individuals. That's why I have founded 5 already, which replicate what I was missing from Reddit.

The last few comments directly before/after this post are the result of continuing my full train of thought, looking for clear answers, in a more visible format than the comments of a lemmy.ca post. From what I understood about the fediverse, I was surprised to see communities blindly defederating when it didn't seem to be fully thought through (although I admittedly am new here, so I may just not understand). But that was the impetus of my questions.

As of me writing this comment, I have not found understandable answers to my questions yet.

I've had the original Pixel, the Pixel 4a 5G, and the Pixel 7a.

The only reason I ditched my 4a 5G was because my cell service seemed to be degrading (which was odd, because it was 5g).

Now that I have the 7a, I can honestly say I'm disappointed in its battery life. My 4a 5G could last 36 hours on a charge, even 3 years into ownership. My 7a seems to get down to 15% consistently by the time I get to bed each day.

My dad had the T-Mobile G1; if I recall, first ever commercial available Android phone!

That was handed down to me after a couple years. It has as much chill factor as it did nerd factor. People laughed and were amazed at the same time. I loved it, lol

That's a bad faith argument. The ToS also says to not engage in illegal activity. The admonishment of Nazi's and Pedophiles is an admonishment of illegal evil.

Your inclusion of Republicans is a bit of an extreme juxtaposition. Feel free to admonish the individual evil views of Republicans, but to discriminate against Republicans purely for their association is rightly against ToS.

Is community browsing different than community searching? Because Jerboa has Searching.

Plus, you can set the speed to 1.5x and catch up to live, if you want.

For me, it was the top google result for "Reddit Alternative". There was a github post explaining the basics of Lemmy and essentially said if I wasn't sure where to sign up, just head over to lemmy.world.

Now that I'm here I can safely say the interface feels like an improved old.reddit.com and am quite pleased.
