The less you know about your history, the easier it is to imagine you'd always be on the right side of it.

Algorithmic Addiction from Social Media consumption. An analogy would be Caffeine addiction from coffee consumption.

Most people who use smartphones are addicts and are far from being aware of it.

Thank you for the very informative post. Your professional way of handling the issue, puts corporate professionals, "cough" Reddit "cough", look like the amateurs they really are

Internet Archive makes me feel like a visit to an old section of a library that noone visited for a while every time I go there.

It's a shame that the US have at the same time people who treasure the need for preservation of culture and Civilization, and people who would sell their own mothers for the shareholder's profit.

If they don't move to a country with more logical copyright laws, I'm afraid we ll lose the too.

Dammit, 2023 is a year the Internet is gone to hell by the corpos faster than I can remember

It just doesn't make sense and baffles my mind for the richest country in the world to treat it's citizens like this

WFH not only cuts emissions. It also helps the worker spend way less money that would otherwise be spent in food, gas and other. It also saves a lot of time commuting from home to work.

As long as there is a life - work balance, and there is no effect in mental health, WFH is a blessing in more than one ways

that's one of the wisest things, I've heard for a very long time.

"I hate so fucking much how little customer service companies are allowed to have".

It's not a mater of how much customer service they're allowed, rather than how much they choose to have. In most cases they choose to have close to none because it's more profitable for them, so its in the best short term interest of their share holders. And yes, in most corporations, long term is thex quarter

May I suggest the use of ZigBee protocol devices instead of WiFi or Tuya. You will need a ZigBee dongle in HA but it will work locally without cloud intervals.Zigbee also creates a mesh network , so it has less connectivity issues. It should be noted that not all kinds of sensors and devices use the ZigBee protocol.

I'm just not interested in Reddit anymore. Haven't logged in since July 1st. Deleted the app and, I'm just lurking to see how this shitshow will end up. My 2 cents is that Reddit will gradually fall since a lot of the content creators, moderators and engaged people have left and a lot more will leave. It will take a lot of time but it will.

People should literally stay away from this town, and drive around it. It's simply unacceptable for any municipality to work or either exist this way. It's better for everyone besides the 221 people living there not to ever visit or even passthrough the place

I think this issue is mostly a USA one, considering that most communications there have caps (data, phone time, SMS etc.) Paradoxically, the market there doesn't work very well and prices are relatively high. Big corporations take advantage of it to lock people to their ecosystems. There is a high probability that this issue, will be regulated by the EU, since US policy makers are unable to solve much more important problems. For them this is not an issue. The market has solved it.

If you are referring to corporate "free" products such as email, cloud and media consumption, I use them until I'm able not to and switch to open source. ex. Gmail -> protonmail Google Drive, photos, contacts -> Next Cloud YouTube -> Jellyfin etc. If you're referring to corporate Social Media, I just refrain from using them, except FB at the minimum due to contact with old relatives. For other Social Media consumption, I ditched Tweeter (or X or whatever) and Reddit, never used Instagram and TikTok. Switched to Federated SM like Lemmy (Duh!!!) and Mastodon.

TLDR. I value my data, but I draw the line in accordance with my ability to afford it

Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

this ☝️. Those of us who remember what happened then, understand the potential dangers of federating with a juggernaut like META.

We should tread lightly!

The increase in energy consumption globally is still bigger than the increase of energy production from renewables. When this happens, hopefully soon, we will start seing reductions in fossil fuel, and especially oil, cosumption. The adoption of EVs will increase further as soon as bettery cosy falls further, wich is expected in the next few years due to increased supply of lithium and thecnologiasl breakthroughs in EV energy mangement

Lets cross our fingers

Your family is not eccentric. It's exceptional. There is a big difference. Unfortunately people are afraid of that, that seems different to what they are accustomed. When they cannot do something the other can, they ridicule it. Being bullied feels like shit. Be there for your daughter and help her steam out all the feelings she has. Help her make alliances with other kids in the school. let her choose to do sports or art she likes. teachers may take her side, but don't imagine that they'll do something, no mater how much you complain. I hope my response has some meaning for you

I wasn't exactly sure of what I was reading in the beginning. After roughly half an hour, I finished the article. There seems to be a whole lot of investigation on this person. He seems to have revolved all of his career to promote extremely conservative people to the positions of judges, justices and others across the states, the supreme court and the government. I wouldn't believe that this kind of person would exist, if I hadn't read this article. This article is a result of a very long and extensive research. Absolutely spot on work.

Shows the inner machinations of the US extreme conservatives to control this country even when they will lose the majority in the senate, the house and the states.

I rarely read something, and get scared so much.

Hopefully by 2025 gaming in Linux will be greatly improved even more. Until then I'll keep using Windows 10 and I'll start saving for an AMD card

I know that unfortunately it's not going to happen.

I also know that there are numerous NGOS and less fortunate people who could really take advantage of using a pc and use it for a good cause or just enjoy it.

I also realise that there is a great number of students, even in the developed world, who could use a laptop for school and fun as well by running Linux.

instead of throwing the hardware away it could be repurposed.

Also i could use a couple of new old pcs to build a NAS for local cloud and jellyfish as well as a Batocera based emulation console for my living room.

I hope Leemy.world does the same *soon

You did the right thing my dude. If it makes you feel any better, today I left from work 30 minutes earlier to get my children from day care, a thing I have agreed with my manager to do during this month because I have no one else to do it and he agreed since I have a lot of overtime owed to me. The thing is that today the GM and the SM of the organization were here and I was in the meeting room with them. When the time came I just said, "well If you excuse me, I have to go get the kids", shaked hands with the GM and left. I remember everyone in the room looking at me the way you would imagine. Anyway. We have good unions in my country and it was all legal. I'm giving 100% everyday, not an inch higher. Apparently, I might not be promotion melaterial, but my kids are on top of everything else and worth every second I can spare for them.

Thankfully I could use my Plex "streaming service" to have all the Pokémon seasons in one place

That's an insane stat. As a Reddit immigrant, I would love to know the percentage of those who posted on Reddit and/or were mods, have migrated as well. That would correlate with the increase of posts in Lemmy, as well as the degredation of content on Reddit. Let's see how this goes.

• Ditched Reddit for Lemmy

• Twitter for Mastodon

• Netflix, Apple+, Prime for Plex

• Gmail for Protonmail

• Outlook for Thunderbird

• partly Degoogled my android Smartphone

• switched from Vanced to Re-vanced

• Chrome for Firefox with add-ons

• Alexa for Home Assistant

• Partly switched off telemetry on Windows 10

• Got my first all unlimited contract on my smartphone

• Upgraded my ADSL to 200 Mbps

• Used FOSS quite more frequently

• Used Calibre for the first time

• Learned a lot about emulators on PC

Tbh, didn't realised about all these things until I wrote them down

You should concentrate your efforts to live, not just survive.

They would be better called GenX shooters. Cheesy aaaand accurate!

I completely agree on giving UBI to everyone, Imagine a world without artists. Without movies, TV shows, theaters, musicals, museums, books, music, sculpture, paintings, architecture.

Imagine how dull everything would be, without the creativity and imagination of these people out to use. But nowaday people just say Y0u_sH0uLd_sTuDy_SoMeThInG_t0_hAvE_iNc0mE, ignoring the consequences of the absence of arts

I would call ethical piracy any kind of data acquiring that would otherwise be unattainable. A more common example is any kind of software and/or content that you pay and therefore should own and for any kind of reason the seller/provider restricts your acces to it.

  1. Whether it is a movie/series/book/song you payed and for some good forsaken reason you cannot access it because you changed your hardware or your country doesn't have access to it
  2. Or it is any kind of software that you have to pay a subscription to keep a feature you previously had on a previous version (ex. Adobe)
  3. or a video game that was removed from the service, has DRM and you can't access it anymore and/or the server shut down and the company doesn't release the source code
  4. or an even older game you own but the cartridge/cd/disk/cassette is destroyed and or the console is not supported anymore and/or it is abandonwarevand the current owner is not know so it cannot be commercially distributed

Coprorations do not want anyone to own the hardware they sell by denying the right to repair, let alone software. The mere sence is unethical, so it's ethical to at least acquire software through piracy.
