I just went to a festival that had only this brand for even regular still water, no water bottles with a cap. It was insanely irritating to not be able to just hang on to a bottle of water in my bag and pull it out whenever to take a sip, you have to just sit there and drink the whole water at once. Or toss it and spend another $6 to buy another can of water when you’re thirsty again. A small problem as problems go but frustrating at the time!

It’s okay, just now on the news I saw that a man successfully shot and killed his 21 year old son, so the universe is now balanced.

When I was a kid I won a trip for 4 people to Washington DC (plane and hotel) plus $500 spending money for the trip from entering a contest I found on the back of a Cheerios box. It was a mail-in entry and I had entirely forgotten about it but weeks later I got a letter saying I won. My parents had no idea I entered and thought it was junk mail at first but were super excited when they realized it was real. Everything went smoothly and we got a fantastic family trip and memory out of it.

Well not so quiet anymore

Agreed, as a whole we need to stop the argument line of reasoning that one alternative is at the expense of another, and then admonishing one because it’s not the “better” of the two options. Multiple things can happen at once, progress isn’t necessarily linear.

I want nothing more than to sporadically think of this throughout the day today

Edit: Imagine my equal delight and disappointment to realize we weren’t talking about actual tiny dragon toys

Oh but I DO hide in the building after I “quietly” leave. Then I just like sit at the breakfast table in my “borrowed” jammies and ask what’s for breakfast as my gracious host rounds the corner in the morning

The problem with how to deal with Trump is that up until his “presidency” his predecessors had some level of respect for the office and its duties. There were lines you didn’t cross, lines that no one thought needed definition or outlined consequences because anyone that would achieve the office of president, elected by the people, could never treat the position so heinously and with such disregard and irreverence for everything and anything the office stands for. We’ve never had someone in charge with zero regard (and frankly probably very little understanding of it) for our system of government, the constitution, and how/why it was all created in the way it was. Enter Trump and we realize we don’t have the guidelines and practices in place to handle it, because no one had ever fathomed someone like him would be running the country. I’ve said since he ran the first time he’s the biggest threat to our democracy we’ve ever seen, at least that I’ve seen in my lifetime. He’s a cult leader (but that’s outside the scope of your question) and from outside the cult his influence is mind boggling. Also we’re never given 2 good candidates to choose from, it’s always whoever sucks less. And understandably people have serious concerns about voting for Biden for another 4 years.

Ah yes, when I think “Canada” I think “malicious and provocative”

American here. This is sadly very true and I find it unbelievably distressing. For me, after Sandy Hook happened (the mass shooting of over 20 elementary school aged children) and nothing changed, it became clear nothing would ever change. And I feel completely helpless about it. I used to be highly opposed to having a gun in my home but it’s gotten so bad that I’m starting to consider getting one for our safety…which pisses me the fuck off because then I feel like I’m forced to be part of the problem. I went to a big trick or treating Halloween event last weekend in a major part of town with lots of kids and adults, and in the back of my head I definitely had a little fear that this would be the kind of thing that would get shot up these days. It’s so far out of control, it’s so disgusting.

Man, I never get the pug flights!

Don’t worry, it’ll rise to the occasion

Oh one of my very favorite all time memes is this pic with the caption “baby stingrays look like tiny damned souls trapped in ravioli”

Boat owner here and grew up boating. Mine and my husband’s happiest place is being on the water on our boat. BUT it is expensive and there are a lot of considerations and you very much need to know how to properly operate one and know the rules of the water. For example, docking is a skill in many conditions, it’s way harder than it looks, make sure you understand right of way, constant bearing decreasing range (if a boat looks like it is in the same spot relative to your position but it keeps getting bigger and bigger you’re on a collision course), know how channel markers work (red right returning), know how to read marine maps and understand tides and how much water your boat draws so you never run aground, where are you going to keep your boat-dry slip/wet slip/boat house storage and if it’s dry storage you need a trailer for the boat and a car (truck) that can pull the weight of the boat and the trailer, then you need to learn how to launch a boat (this is just comical to watch people try, me included, I don’t even try). Dock space is expensive, fuel is expensive, maintenance is expensive. Buy used but ask how many hours the boat and engine have on it, don’t just rely on the age. And ask about maintenance history. Know that engines are WAY more expensive than you would think. And please please please take a boat safety course and get your license. If there’s any way you can be on and around other people’s boats and just watch and ask questions for a while I would highly recommend that! Two biggest things- pay attention to the weather and always put the plug in before you launch the boat!!

God speed friend

I once tasted a Pupperoni stick because it truly smelled fantastic, do NOT do this

Dachshunds are just that spectacular. Mine did not type this I swear, this is totally human made comment

I’d love to read the full exchange but that site is a ficking disaster

No idea the laws or standard practices in OP’s location but a general rule of thumb where I am is if you flipped the house upside down anything that falls to the ground goes and everything else stays-meaning anything that’s attached/affixed to the property stays (or at least should be specifically referenced in a contract as included or excluded with the rent/sale). Plants that have been planted into the ground could be reasonably expected to stay from the new renter’s perspective, they have no way of knowing that was an improvement made by the current tenant and not the landlord/owner. The landlord messed up by not having this discussion explicitly with the current tenant and just assuming they were leaving the plants. I think it would be reasonable for the new tenant to require the landlord to plant a new garden to match the old, especially if it was specifically advertised that way

You’re right, he gets away with absolutely everything and has seemed to be above the law, I’m hoping he’ll finally see justice through any of the current lawsuits he faces. I guess better wording is that there are guidelines and practices in place for regular people for the various crimes he’s arguably committed, the question has been what to do when a president is the one guilty. That’s a new question for us and many argue it’s not as straightforward as “charge him and throw him in jail”. People think prosecuting a president sets a dangerous precedent politicizing the judicial system, which by definition should be impartial.

Outside of any legal questions we’ve just never had someone with absolutely zero decorum. It’s uncharted territory.

I personally feel incredibly helpless and am so sad and scared watching everything unfolding around us.

I’m not sure if that answers much but it’s all I’ve got at 4 am!

And sadness

I don’t know how to recover from this

A little slimy and unconventional but I’m up for the challenge

Going home. I’m at some weekend festival to support a hobby my husband has become very passionate about. I’m incredibly happy for him and love that he’s found this but it’s just not my thing and I want to go home. Also some asshole at a party last night said something stupid to me to make me feel unnecessarily unwelcome and I really shouldn’t be letting it affect me. Anywho

ETA I also really miss my dogs!

Well with the right tools and inspiration it could be a murder house

I’m so sorry, that sounds awful to see :/ Try to remember him as the whole of his life, the last bit was only a blip of what I’m guessing was an otherwise long and happy life

I’m making a big conscious effort to hear out and be in tune with perspectives of people of all age groups and to not deny anyone’s experiences just because they’re not my own. There are such generational divisions that, being between the older and younger generations right now, I can see so clearly. That makes me want to go out of my way to avoid it as I get older.

Not sure, we’re mostly self employed and really work out at the end of the day

Hey how ‘bout the people that don’t even have an internal monologue! They exist among us

I’ve had 3 of these toilets for the last 4 years and I never knew you could COMBINE flush?!

I think once he got back on his feet you probably reminded him (through no fault of your own obviously) of that horrible painful time in his life and it may have just been too unbearable to be around you. And he may not have even made that as a conscious decision. Still it’s completely unfair to you and you didn’t deserve that. Your value in being a good person in this world is appreciated, at least by an internet stranger :)

My feed is overrun by cat content…I mean I love the kitties but it’s too much

It’s a Christmas scented ash they leave behind, most unsettling

I think their kid was the one driving

They’re more scared of you than you are of them

To me it seems clear this guy didn’t actually know the answer to your question and his ego was too large to just say “I’m so sorry I don’t have a great answer for that but I’ll introduce you to Professor Yada Yada who can better answer that”. I’ve had similar experiences within the medical community where a doctor’s ego prevented me from being able to find someone who understood and could genuinely treat a chronic condition I have while simultaneously making me feel like utter shit mentally. Realizing this person’s ego was too big for them to just admit that they don’t know the answer alleviated a lot of the self-imposed responsibility surrounding the situation.

Basically this guy is a narcissistic asshat who’s also an idiot (the worst possible combination of traits). Your question was genuinely a good and thoughtful question. The burden of this failed interaction is on him, not you.

Is this where you find that dark web place?

Very specific, I’m listening
