I'm sorry... What?

For neurotypicals... Habits are automated processes? Brains have that function built in?

On some days, it feels like I have to breathe and blink manually.

5 more...

I didn't believe you, so I looked up those cases. While there's a little more nuance to the cases than your summaries, you are pretty spot on. We are all cursed with this disgraceful knowledge now.

Humans are insanely creative sometimes... I'm doing my part! One frame drawn!

I had no idea the self doubt could go deeper, until now... I guess I really am an imposter.

It depends. Are you legtating?

I'm sorry, but you didn't answer in the form of a question. Minus 3 bones.

Thanks for sharing a bit about your life. I'm very proud of you (however much that means) and agree 100% with what you wrote.

However, I have also been on the receiving end. The childhood experience of watching racists shout slurs at my parents in a grocery store has permanently impacted my perspective.

Many try to ignore or debate with racists for years, and the violence you see often is the last resort.

Wow! People move fast.

Thanks for sharing. This was really jarring to see.

These kinds of moments make us want to withdraw, but please keep family and friends nearby. Genuine people on Lemmy care about your well-being, which means the real people close to you even more so.

I'm sorry for your loss and wish you healing.

Hey thanks for writing this out. I noticed these exact changes a few years ago, but I don't have enough self-awareness or articulation to have expressed it the way you did. I am relieved that my bodies reactions are not unique.

In case people didn't know, Opossums eat ticks (lots of them), and other pests. And, they are naturally rabies resistant.

So I guess wolves can hurt me in two ways now...

Monkey paw: your account gets flagged and eventually you go to jail

That's the proudest racoon I've ever seen..

Ooooo tiny baby!

Wow a 97 prelude!? That was my middle school dream car...

I got my 2011 Forester XT to 276k before I had to get rid of it for an oil leak, and mushy brakes that were too difficult to resolve. Loved that car.

You bring up legitimate concerns, but I think the bigger point here is that the Fediverse is not Reddit, nor should it be. I find that fragmentation mitigates the system manipulation and "gaming" that is often tied to people who rely on exposure.

The one time I've been here, the sliders were really good, but the service was weird. They served some regulars before us and we got our sliders after ~20 minutes.

Maybe I am too spoiled by White Rose System in Highland Park?

This guy is so aggressively straight that he can't eat a banana the normal way...

It looks like the OP is responsible for the upvote bots (inferred from his edit?). Maybe to prove the original point?

This is exactly it. They don't care about your post or you or anyone really. For them, it just feels good to bring down others.

Who would control the multi-community, and how could a potential bad actor/community be dealt with?

I disagree on two points:

  • Fragmentation is a feature, not a bug. Echo chambers will always exist, but fragmentation is what keeps them contained to small pockets.
  • A centralized hub would not necessarily foster community engagement. Seeing hundreds of comments on a post is often enough of a barrier.

Check if your library participates in Overdrive or Libby (digital library collection). I can't believe I had been missing out on free ebooks, audiobooks, and comics/graphic novels for years. I just needed an active library card to sign up.

Honestly? Thanks for the perspective shift. I had a sensible chuckle and then thought more deeply about my priorities.

Goddammit. This is so stupid.. I love it.

Some other possible loopholes:

What is a "home"? Does it need to have a roof or a door or walls?

What happens if the vampire is knocked unconscious and then the resident tells another person to bring them inside?

This is definitely more complex than I originally thought.

I was very active 8 years ago.. but now my knees and back hurt all the time.. 🫠

So cute! It even has a built-in butt shelf for storing potions!

I am devoted to the church of Schlopschlop and its teachings..

This owl is my spirit animal.

There is no perfect solution, though. Both Reddit and Lemmy have inherent flaws and benefits because they serve different purposes.

  • 1 egg over easy
  • a small portion of a salty, fatty protein
  • a small portion of a carb/starch
  • a cup of hot black coffee

It's all of the heavy breakfast foods I love, but an amount that doesn't make me want to take an immediate nap. Oof, now my tummy is grumbling.

Good write up! It certainly made me nostalgic for the games of that era.

It's a little buried in the account settings, but Netflix does allow account sharing for an additional fee (~$7?). I know families that went with this option so they could continue sharing their account with elderly parents, and college aged children.

I imagine that if a group of friends agreed to split the cost of an account + fees, they would end up paying less than having individual accounts.
