All of Kape's purchased review sites suggest Kape owned VPN's with "some consideration" given to Nord and Proton to maintain some kind of pretense at neutrality.

In short: Sagi is shady, his business is shady, and his business moves are shady, which makes the whole thing shady from top to bottom. I actually agree. Nobody explains DNS to people trying to understand how mail works. They don't need to understand MX records, SPF records, DMARC, DKIM, or anything. All they need to know is sign up and how to use the To: field to start sending emails. Hell - you don't even need to and probably don't want to explain the purpose of the CC or BCC fields at this point either.

I'm dying of laughter at this oxymoron.

A small suggestion, only because using monthly prices sometimes makes things seem even cheaper than they are. Change it from $Monthly Cost to $Monthly Cost ($Annual Cost). For example instead of $11/mo for Apple Music it would be $11 ($132) and instead of $33 it would be $33 ($396).

Doing this caused me to re-evaluate a number of monthly subscriptions I had, find cheaper (sometimes even free/"good enough") alternatives. Other times it would make me realize I should update annual charges if it was available if it was something I planned to keep around anyway and the annual price was a good enough deal. It also causes you to re-evaluate which price tier you pay for. Like for Nitro - do you really need the extra perks for $84/yr or do you only actually care about emotes and slightly larger file uploads and the $3/mo Basic package would be good enough? Often times people go "Oh it's only $7/mo difference anyway" and get the better package but don't actually use the extra features they're paying for.

I've been playing Runescape since grade school. I'm approaching a bit shy of 25,000 hours played (a little under 3 years). As an AFK'able "second monitor game" a good half of that is just "I'm at my computer anyway" but the other half is actual investment/more active playing.

I don't bother playing a game if I'm not going to invest a significant amount of time into it. I aim for 100% completion or reaching the top 0.1% of players if there is a competitive ranking system. It's extremely rare for me to play a game that I don't dump a minimum of 500 hours into.

My play time is less now than it was when I was a teen but it's still skewed towards the higher end due to me being fortunate enough to work from home with a FIFO queue of work. If my work is done - I can game during work hours if I want to. As long as I keep close tabs on my queue and handle anything as it comes in. This gives me 8~ hours of potential game time that I otherwise wouldn't have. Since I need to be near my computer in case any work comes in - I'm pretty limited with activities I can do. I can lift some weights, browse the internet, cook a quick meal, or play video games. But I can't really leave the house, go swim in the pool, etc.

I dislike genocide apologists about as much as I dislike liars and people who spread misinformation. It's trivially easy to confirm who /u/parentis_shotgun is - so calling it misinformation is blatantly lying especially when their first point is blatantly wrong.

As long as they can closely control the narrative and keep the .ml (Marxist-Leninist) instances as the larger/flagship communities they'll hold sway over their part of their part of the Fediverse and can surround themselves with people who are as radical as they are or open to being radicalized. Those who control the trunk control the branches.

I don't know anything about ernest and I consider that a good thing because that means they don't already have a bad reputation as a political extremist. Which made Kbin the easy choice to make between the two federation alternatives to Reddit.

This completely ignores the influence that flagship instances have.

People don't become Neo-Nazis without spending time among other Neo-Nazis listening to Neo-Nazi talking points. People don't become Tankies without spending time among other Tankies listening to Tankie talking points.

People are more likely than not to join the flagship instance than any of the smaller instances and significantly more likely than starting their own instance. Some of them will realize the kind of people they have found themselves surrounded by and leave. Many more won't - especially due to general ignorance about Tankies (see this entire thread and the absolutely bizarre common defense of Tankies not being equatable to Nazis when they absolutely are and have resulted in more deaths and suffering than the Nazis ever have or will.) The people who stick around might start thinking the Tankies make some good points. This is how you end up with more Tankies. More Tankies is always a bad thing just like having more Neo-Nazis is always a bad thing.

Most people have a good sense to not surround themselves with Neo-Nazis. That good sense appears to be missing when dealing with Tankies.

That does seem to have changed since I last cared to look. As dannoffs pointed out - it seems lemmy.ml was unlisted from the join-lemmy.org instances page where previously it was listed as #1 for the Popular section. They also removed the ## users / month metric so the list is no longer guaranteed to be sorted by popularity.
