No, the immediate problem is that we know that people make decisions based on a vibe and who orates better and (out of all of the qualified people in the country) we still hang our hat (and the future of the country) on a poor orator with a bad vibe. It’s 2016 all over again and it seems like nobody’s learned a thing.

This shouldn’t be a hard race at all. Why are we insisting on handicapping ourselves like this?

The only reason to vote for Biden at this point is anti-Trump and Blue No Matter Who. Those still apply to anyone else that the DNC puts forward, as a base score, with any actual merits, charisma, or vigor adding to that. This should have been an easy decision six months ago and doing-nothing-and-hoping-for-the-best doesn’t seem to be making the prospects any better.

You clearly didn’t read what I wrote, but you sure took the time to start talking some more.

The only reason to blindly insist on Biden as the only possible nominee, a bad-mouth someone who discusses an alternative approach, is if you want Trump to win.

I said that the DNC should run someone who is more charismatic and younger so that they could more easily beat Trump. Where are you getting the dictator garbage?

That’s literally exactly what I said.

Geez, you make some good posts sometimes but interacting with you is a really horrible experience every time. So needlessly hostile.

Nitrogen hypoxia sounds like one of the best ways to die, without pain or panic, but I completely understand why no company wants to be the supplier of the means of executing people. Small volume, small profits, extreme controversy. What’s to want there?

The military have much stricter rules of engagement and punishment for not following them.

Police behavior is more similar to that of a street gang.

E2EE is not part of the standard and only exists as a proprietary Google extension, using Google’s servers. Implying that implementing RCS would get everyone cross-platform E2EE is misinformation.

Meanwhile, Biden pisses away his domestic support by propping up this Nazi clown. I’m starting to think Netanyahu wants Trump and the DNC is going to deliver him on a silver platter.

Even if that was the case, the IDF have no moral high ground when attacking the hospital. That just makes their job of killing Hamas harder. Hamas is an irregular force, a terrorist organization. They don’t follow the rules of war. But IDF is a regular army and should act like one lest we see them as a terrorist organization too.

If a dangerous criminal is found milling about in a crowd of people, even if some of of the people are sympathetic to him, the police don’t get to just mow the crowd down to get to him.

24 Hamas hostages + 39 Israeli hostages = scores of Palestinian and Israeli hostages.

I’m just surprised that they didn’t refer to the women and children held hostage by Israel as “prisoners“ or “detainees“, while referring to those held by Hamas as “hostages”. As if there’s some benign reason to capture women and children and then use them as currency if one party does it but not the other.

We’re going to get Trump again (barf) because the DNC insists on running shit candidates and refuses to acknowledge that they are bad, instead insisting that the voters are just too ignorant to understand how good their candidates really are.

Hillary Clinton was a horrible candidate: immensely unpopular even with the Democrat base, running on a status quo platform right in the wake of disappointment with Obama’s failure to deliver on “hope and change”, and acting as if she was somehow entitled to the position.

Biden is not as bad as Clinton in most ways, but is utterly lackluster and feels more like a moderate Republican. His unwavering support for Israel during their campaign of atrocities is despicable and shameful. The fact that he’s totally ancient and losing his mind isn’t helpful in the least. Why can’t we have a more compelling candidate from the DNC?!

This post will get modded down and ignored, as will the incredibly common and widespread sentiment that it expresses, and we will get Trump again as the nation and the DNC acts shocked yet again. It’s so predictable and infuriating.

This is all such absolute insanity. So disappointed in the human race these days.

So is this going to be standard RCS, which has no encryption and the telcos need to support, or the Googlified version that does E2E encryption but requires storing keys on Google’s servers?

RCS has interoperability issues itself and Google hasn’t been making the situation better.

On the other hand, doesn’t this take the wind out of the sails of most of the anti-trans block’s arguments? With this “what-if” banned all of the remaining arguments are pretty clearly irrational, religious, or generally indefensible.

It’s another tool for the toolbox. How can being more prepared with a more diverse set of tools be bad for any situation? Right now the only tool seems to be posting outraged comments on the internet.

He is a bad response to a real problem, as is the toxic misandrist movement that seems to pull people away from productive feminism these days.

But as long as reactions to these extreme positions keep us from discussing the underlying problems or reasonable solutions to them, we’ll never find any real solutions.

That’s exactly what he was saying.

I’m too cynical, I guess, but I’m sure the ’hot mic’ incident wasn’t an accident. But either way, is a ‘come to Jesus’ meeting more or less serious than a ‘sternly phrased letter’?

Are we still sending Israel the weapons that are being used to carry out this genocide?

Yes. I’m a man of few words.

Not to defend this guy, or even police in general (ACAB), but the sheriff or chief of police is supposed to be more of a political position that decides where to allocate resources and how to prioritize the needs of the community. Since that involves discerning the will of the people, it makes sense that the people should decide who fills the role and get to continually reevaluate it. The alternative is that another politician just appoints someone into the role, which has most of the same downsides while also being undemocratic.

That’s just theory, of course, and not even considering how messed up the whole election process really is.

I’m not arguing with the content of the article, but it’s always so telling to see old men in fancy suits in front of tanks crewed by young men. The former, from positions of comfort, will be making decisions payed for by the lives of the latter.

Interesting. Any links or search terms to go about finding more about this ancient belief system?

Ah, this is Gnosticism. Super interesting and weird belief system.

Or maybe they worry that if Israel fails as a nation, some of the Jews there will move to Germany and they know how they’ll react to that too well.

I can’t tell if this is a troll post or if you need to ask for a refund for your education.

On my phone, so links may come later. It’s hard to find solid documentation on it, since their encryption extension is proprietary, but it’s been referenced as being based on the Signal Protocol. The Signal Protocol, or every implementation of it that I’ve seen, uses a central “trusted” repository of public keys to tell message originators query to encrypt the message to. For Signal, and I assume Google RCS, that central repository is Google. The protocol doesn’t allow for federation, so any system that is interoperable with Google RCS will rely on Google as the trusted authority.

The private key part I’m much less sure of, since both the Signal and Google RCS clients are closed source. Signal makes you jump through hoops to add a new client, involving one of your currently installed clients. This suggests that Signal isn’t in possession of your private keys. On the other hand, all you need to set up a new Google client is your account password. This suggests that either your keys are held by Google (perhaps encrypted by your account password) or that new keys can be added without needing explicit involvement from current keys.

Of course this is all speculation because the implementations aren’t available for inspection.

I voted for him on his not-Trump platform last time and I won’t vote for him this time unless he stops this shit in Israel. Either he shapes up or steps down from the primaries… or we risk Trump again.

RCS, as adopted by GSMA , is zero encryption text messaging. RCS with encryption is a proprietary Google product and relies on Google servers.

No they don’t (well… they do, but not for this). Bump stocks are a stupid gimmick that were only ever banned in the first place to appease low-information hysterical types.

Dude, I’m browsing this on a phone and I’m pretty sure I responded to their post also. What are even you on about? Do you think this is some amazing rhetoric on your part?

I’m not going to vote for somebody who supports fascists and war crimes, even if you and other people do. Even if all Palestinians support him, which the Michigan uncommitted episode makes seem unlikely.

If you want my vote, you need to convince Biden to stop this situation in Gaza or convince him to step down from the primaries. I’m doing what I can on both fronts, but it will take a critical mass to force his hand.

No amount of insults or attempts at shaming me will make me support genocide, man. It’s just not going to happen. If you need to win at internet to get on with your day, then you can consider this a win. You win this argument, whatever that means.

You can now go ahead and bury your head in the sand and pretend that my viewpoint is stupid, isolated, and shouldn’t even be considered (like you probably did with Clinton in 2016). You can even blame me for ending up with Trump again if that makes you better about your clearly failed strategy at bringing people to your viewpoint.

Ah, I see now. You explicitly support what Israel is doing. You like Biden /because/ he is supporting the murder of people that you see as human garbage, right? That clears things up.

There’s nothing paternalistic about not wanting to taint my psyche by supporting fascists who murder children. I don’t need approval from ex-pats from a country to have that stance. I can hold it simply because I’m a human.

Dean Phillips, but he has little chance against an incumbent who has the support of the Party leadership. In order for anyone to solidly beat him in the primaries, Biden would need to step down or the Party would need to acknowledge that the Clinton strategy of pushing their pick even if unpopular isn’t a safe one.

Voters tend to not show up for primaries against incumbents, but unenthusiastic or marginalized voters also tend to not show up to elections. Or put another way, an incumbent winning a primary isn’t indicative of a candidate winning an election. And I have no faith that Biden can win an election. That the DNC does is frightening and delusional.

Or are you saying that you wouldn’t vote for any Democratic candidate except Biden? What on earth does the party have to lose by having Biden step down?

You’re admitting you’ve done nothing, yet you have the audacity to ask me to quantify what I’ve done. I’m very politically active, but I’m not going to go into the details here. I don’t live on this site and don’t want to spend more time than I already have arguing with randos with weird agendas.

Sure, but this is part of the process. If we don’t call them out, they assume that everything is peachy and the status quo is their mandate. I’ll admit it’s inflammatory and over the top, but it’s sort of catchy.

lol, it’s nothing but moving goalposts with you, is it?

Your daughter’s life doesn’t mean enough to you to help me get an electable candidate through the primaries. When she asks you what you did to save her, you can say you argued with people on the internet. Sleep with that on your conscience.

2 more...

100%, May he DIAF. Or were you insinuating that any opposition to Biden (and Trump) can only come from Russian trolls?

So you’re insisting that your role in this is really nothing more than to tell me I’m wrong for not voting for Biden and that I’m to blame for whatever comes? I’m not the only person who feels this way and I’m informing you that this strategy of yours is unduly dangerous. Digging in and trying to shame a couple of people on the internet isn’t mitigating the risk here.

That some self-proclaimed internet Palestinian says that they’re ok with somebody sending a fascist state the weapons that are being used to murder innocent people doesn’t change my view on things. If I tell you that I’m Palestinian too, will that change your mind?

5 more...

I’m not the guy who wants Trump in office. I’m just the one who doesn’t want to vote for somebody who is repeatedly bypassing Congress to send weapons to literal fascists committing war crimes. That’s someone I can’t just hold my nose and vote for. His political career is over.

Why can’t we have any of the other people who ran in the 2020 Democratic primaries instead of Biden? This idea that it absolutely has to be Biden or else the DNC will let the country fall apart with Trump is so completely messed up.
