Hey.
I'm Dan. A 36 year old father of two who doesn't have nearly as much time as he needs to do half the things he wishes he had the time to do.

Looks like the Dev is looking to add a lifetime option and an option to remove ads in the future.
My favourite Reddit client coming to Lemmy. Where do I give you my money?
Can't wait to not be able to buy one of these for the next five years.

I play an awful lot of games on easy mode now anyway, unless I'm going in specifically to learn the game (Fromsoft games for example). If I'm playing a random open world game or a FPS I'm gonna knock that difficulty down to make life a little easier.
Time. I'd rather not do this, but I get like maybe five hours a week to play. The days where I can sit down on weekends and just...game are long gone, and likely won't return until the kids are much older.
This is less of a confirmation and more of a 'yeah, at some point there will exist a RDR3'.
Am I alone in not remembering literally any enemy in Mass Effect 3?
Anything that goes over my eyes is going to be a negative for me, and I'd assume many others. The second you take away my ability to see what's going on in and around me it becomes a difficult sell. Same with VR.
The Deck/Switch/whatever allows me to play my games on the on the sofa whilst my kids watch TV/run around. It allows me to play whilst my family is around me, which is important because if I'm going to essentially lock myself away, I'm just not going to want to play. Which was VRs issue.
Not to mention if you want to play in a public space, on a bus or a train. I can't imagine ever being comfortable with something that robs me of my ability to see what's going on in that scenario.
Agreed it's deeply cynical on their part...but the sad thing is that people will happily hand over their money for it.
I really struggle with my mental health, and some of that is the weight of being a parent......
That said, walking in from a long day of lugging boxes at work and seeing and hearing my young kids running to the door yelling 'Daddddyyyyy' is pretty great.
I think Valve just said that there's no plans for a more powerful model in the next year or two. Granted that leaves room for a better display or battery.
I wouldn't worry though. I adore my Steamdeck.
I've got two small children. I haven't slept for more than four hours in a row in about five years.
Help.
I'm probably not the target demo for Nintendo, but I won't lie...the Switch feels very long in the tooth at this point.
Great concept, great delivery, but it's showing its age and it's time for an upgrade at the very least.
IIRC didn't Microsoft hold the game back specifically to ensure it didn't launch in a horrific state? Bethesda games are known for being a nightmare at launch, and even with these assurances, I'm still expecting the first few weeks to be a mess. That being said, if any Bethesda game was going to launch well, it would be this one.
I'm honestly amazed that anyone could have completed it more than once already. I've played it every day since Friday and I feel like I've barely got out of the opening seconds of the game.
The Stanley Parable, although it couldn't be further from High on Life in terms of its comedy. Personally I don't love the game but it's absolutely hilarious.
You spend more time with your parents than I spend with myself. If I'm lucky I get 2 hours in the evening where I'm not working, and not parenting.
If I'm lucky I'll see my folks once a month for an hour or two. They're busy. I'm busy, and when you have kids, your parents stop being your 'primary family'. If they want to come over and take the kids out then fantastic; gives me a bit of a breather but I'm also not seeing them during that time either.
I feel like they've been saying something to the effect that 'the games are coming ' for a good while now, and either they don't turn up or land in such a way that people immediately forget about them.
Didn't they only just reform after previously being laid off?
Might also explain why Cricket is so popular. Obviously it still requires a fair amount of physical exertion but it's definitely a bit more laid back than something like Rugby.
How does that work if you're already over the 2 hours of playtime?
With regards to Mastodon, there's no algorithm. So you'll need to be using the hashtag search function to really find the sort of people you're interested in communicating with.
That's the thing. We don't get paid sick. So I'm taking a £100 hit for this day off and it's going to go down on my record.
I've tried 3-4 times to get into this game, and I guess it's just not for me. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be really proud of what they've managed to turn the game into. It looked pretty....rough 7 years ago but with a bit of patience and a lot of goodwill and hard work they've turned it into a success story.
I think (for me atleast) the larger issue is the fact that I have to engage a cut-scene to land on a planet. I don't have an issue with a loading screen in order to get into the system, or even just outside of the planets atmosphere, but it's kinda weak that I also have a loading screen when landing.
"Man who stands to gain from an increase in game prices advocates for increase in game prices".
Seriously though I'm not sure there's much more room to go on the top end when it comes to prices rises. I've got to think at some point you'll just push more people into buying at sale, or waiting for a game to hit their subscription platform of choice.
Maybe it's time we re-evaluate what makes a AAA worth £75 in the first place? And, what role do micro transactions have in this system, because anyone who's ever spent £75 on a new AAA game will know there's plenty of other ways they try to skin the proverbial cat.
The thing I'm giving to this post instead of giving to the growing pile of laundry I need to do.
Abzu has a few moments like that, especially towards the end where you're swimming through more and more densely packed environments.
Could be wrong here but based on the URL of the website it's an industry type site. They're probably writing for people that make games, or are involved in their publishing more than they're writing for the average person playing them.
Got my daughter's birthday party. Finally. Can't wait for it to be over but I think she's going to have a good time and I'm told that's what it's all about.
Been loving this game for the last few weeks.
I think there's a big difference between a mental institution and a therapist. Almost apples and oranges.
Agreed. It gets to the point where if anything, it's inhibitive to growth because people just zip right on past it before ultimately unsubscribing.
I think the problem they've given themselves is that they pushed it as a cheaper alternative to the X whilst also maintaining that it'll be able to play the same games.
How do they go about messaging that can't be the case going forward without pissing off those that spent the money on the S in the first place.
That's the reasonable position.
I've got kids so my weekends are...well not mine. In the Before Time however, things were much different.
Typically we'd have a three day weekend (overnight work yay). The Sunday was a mess because we'd been working the previous night so we'd spend a lot of that day in bed napping and just chilling out. Monday was the day we'd usually give to seeing others and running errands so that Tuesday we could do as little as possible, play games, maybe go get food. Wednesday (before 3 when we'd go to bed before our shift) was usually just lounging around the house.
Our weekends were amazing....and now here I am being held hostage against my will by a 6 year old and a 2 year old. Help
I'd be very surprised if that Metroid Prime game doesn't feature in their launch plans.
I love the thought of paper books, but the functionality of my eReader is just too great. I can carry my books with me in one tiny little thing, it's got a light built in and doesn't weigh too much. Also saves so much shelf space.
Son broke my favourite mug. And he then threw my phone at my wrist, which hit my watch and scratched the phone screen. Yeah, its been a fun one.
No one has any idea what they're doing.
I'm 35. I've got two kids. I make it up as I go along. There's no plan, no blueprint. There's just the day to day crap that life has for us all. I wake up, I go to work and my only real aim is to get home to my kids and partner.
