expanding fossil fuel production and insisting that there is no alternative.

No alternative? No fucking alternative? Like... We're talking about extinction level scenarios and they're like "yeah, okay, we're all going to die, but I don't think your suggested alternatives to that are viable"

Like, don't they see that their profits ultimately depend on humanity existing to consume their products? What the fuck is wrong with them? Who do they think will bail them out when the planet is too fucking hot to live on?

Man, the US really are a dystopia.

But you can change it back. Here's how.

At this point, why even bother?

As much as I lean to hate this despite it not even affecting me as a Linux user...

I’m going to structure this as a Q&A with myself now, based on comments online

What is that? "I'm going to pretend to ask questions that I'll then answer myself the way I think it'll outrage that most people do I'll get a lot of clicks on this shitty article"? What crappy excuse for content creation is this? I hate it.

That's... That's adhd? Like, I'm all of that. I don't think I have adhd.

Soldiers reported they had heard cries of “help” and “hostages” in Hebrew, but that they assumed it was an attempt by Hamas to lure them into a trap.

They also reportedly found signs left by the hostages to get the military's attention but dismissed these as part of the supposed ploy.

Everybody's Hamas. If they're not, they're Hamas in disguise.

windows is still a effecient os, it's just a lot of bloat

I like that contradiction.

which can be disabled

Pretty sure it can't, especially not "officially" by the device manufacturer and certainly not in a way that keeps those debloat settings in place over the next few large updates.

😩

your not eating for enjoyment, your eating to fuel your body

Yeah? Well, you know, that's just like uh, your opinion, man.

The touch pads are the killer feature, imho. They are the key to making mouse centric games playable. I wouldn't want to touch eg stellaris with an 11 feet pole with joysticks or touch screen but sank so much time into the game on the deck.

I mean, there's also so much other stuff... The device running on Linux and giving unrestricted access to the desktop. The software being great. The case being screwed, not glued. Valves super relaxed stance on people modifying the hardware. It all adds up. But from a purely user centric pov, I wouldn't buy a PC based handheld without the pads after I saw how well they work.

Yeah, how about no?

No touch pads? No deal. They're just that good.

This. I just ordered an S23, just because it's pretty much the smallest phone you can get (apart from the zenfone, which has a worse update policy).

Aaah, the occasional AI bro.

The problem isn't knowing roughly where mines could be, people are good at that and you don't need an AI for this. The problem is knowing precisely where mines are, which is something AIs won't help with.

Great, now I've got tea on my sweater...

This really caught me by surprise.

I find this hard to believe

Okay.

It didn't start moving deliberately. The trailer has brakes, so when the driver of the semi tried to stop, it actually started pushing the barge.

Maybe just go fuck yourself? Those people died trying to make this world a little bit more humane. What have you done with your life so far?

but I have the impression that people sing easily “Deutschland über alles”.

What the fuck?

Dude, please connect to some Germans that aren't Nazis.

Define modern... Keepass is still going strong and running local.

Good thing is that them being upset doesn't stop you from moving out if it's better for you.

You think Germans know how to joke?

Same. The Linux setup there is a fucking mess though... AD authentication freezes login for a minute or so if you switch networks at the wrong moment, puppet keeps messing with the system and recently they installed clamav as a live malware scanner on all machines, making them eat batteries for breakfast and slowing down even menial tasks. If you have admin rights, they refuse to add your user to sudoers but instead create a new admin user (another indicator that they're just really coming from windows) which everybody just uses to add their original user to sudoers, which was a nice workaround but which they now noticed and want to prohibit via puppet or user rights or something. It's just such a mess. I mean, still leagues ahead of using windows, but a corporate environment really is a machine that transforms time and money into a terrible experience for everybody.

It's certainly not her fault this happened but if she hadn't left her phone somewhere else this would have been over inside an hour .

Santiano is not universally loved. They're too close to Schlager for that. And the issue with Rammstein isn't really alleged nazism (which only came up briefly when they used Leni Riefenstahl's footage) but rather their singer's alleged backstage raping.

So far, I haven't met people who hated Herbert Grönemeyer, Marius-Müller Westernhagen, Jan Delay, Nina Hagen, die Ärzte, die fantastischen Vier or Reinhard Mey. A little more recent music that I have rarely seen associated negatively would be by Kraftklub, Peter Fox or Deichkind. None of this is particularly progressive, but it's decent stuff that is so universally liked that e.g. weddings often rely on them to get people to dance.

It's too damn big. I got a Fairphone 4 and got rid of it because I just couldn't properly use it (and because of the poor camera performance on top of that). Now they're releasing an even bigger phone? I may be the minority here, but that's a deal breaker for me. I'll need a new phone in the next few months, but right now I'm only considering the s23 or the Xperia 5 V, just because everything else is just too fucking huge.

Am a renter. Recently got two solar panels installed, maxing out at about 600 watts. It's called a balcony power plant and you essentially just plug it into an ordinary outlet.

Obvious choice: Primer

There's also a decent tng episode that has this exact premise.

It seems this is an entire genre though, so Wikipedia does have a list of time loop movies. Maybe check if any of those short descriptions seem to fit your tastes?

It's not about having a sales tax applied to some or all goods or about how much that'd be. It's about not listing the final price including the tax right until you're supposed to pay for it. How dumb is that?

Good. I hate bags that keep that precious garbage juice to themselves.

the army said that it had "identified a number of terrorists armed with anti-tank missiles" approaching troops in Shejaiyya, and called in a helicopter strike on them.

It also said fighter jets had been striking terror targets in the Gaza Strip, as ground operations continued.

The area of Zeitoun, where the family house once stood, is now the focus of fresh operations by the IDF.

Everything is Hamas.

Oh we have a dedicated Linux service contract with a dedicated Linux support company that has technicians just to deal with Linux issues and provide the Linux setup. We've had time to adapt. I guess some bloke still decided that there just had to be a malware scanner and now we all have to eat shit. This is much less a lesson for it departments and much more a lesson that the people who manage stuff just have other goals than the people working with the tools that are managed, so you end up with somebody who wants to cover their ass in case something goes wrong in the future and makes it a terrible experience for everybody in the process but can sell it as a necessity to the people below and as action to the people above.

Considering they deleted their account years ago but they kept their contact data: yes, they should worry.

Sounds trustworthy to me.

What shielded bases were there in the books?

I mean, there was the "shield wall", but that was just mountains that protected Arrakeen from the desert.

Oooh, this is great!

I love Hilda. The Netflix series. It has this feeling of adventure, an ubiquitous optimism and (and this is where it really gets difficult) combines this with a mixture of fast and slow pacing and (almost) traditional 2d animation. I haven't found anything similar. Friends recommended gravity falls and adventure time, but I didn't really like the faster pacing and American slapstick humour. The only thing that really ever came close was the ghibli adaptation of Ronja, which had this off-putting uncanny 3d cell shaded look of the characters but which I still enjoyed due to the writing (but which has disappeared from streaming services in Europe since).

Hilda is kind of like star trek tng, with episodes being not too connected and the protagonists mastering their challenges without antagonising their adversaries or resorting to violence as the solution (the final movie being the exception here, which was really weird imho).

And ideas?

Yeah that's nice and all... But where did it put its fox's diarrhea?

I'm not sure if I'm convinced. Could you post a screenshot of a solved captcha to prove it?
