Just a spacefaring raccoon that's eaten all the food onboard. Sorry.

@OverfedRaccoon@lemmy.world

Good ol' Bungiefan_ak, creating troll accounts on any instance that'll have them to troll all things piracy and post transphobic and hateful shit wherever they go.

The good news is, Republicans aren't really about pursuing wokeness as much anymore. But polling also suggests they're much more in favor of Trump still, somehow, in spite of everything. So that's the other shoe dropping. They're back on their "law and order," unless the law and order is coming down on Trump, it seems. 😂

Not sure why people are downvoting you, since that's exactly what happened. It's Bungiefan_ak, a troll that admins are playing wackamole with, as the person keeps appearing on new instances and pulling the same shit.

After 3 years on Fedora, the distro that finally made me stop hopping, I moved to openSUSE when I installed a new SSD. I have no idea what the future holds, but I'm good with switching now when convenient rather than later.

The "enterprise" part is you paying for the ability to get support if you need it.

Guess my alt account has now become my main account. Thus, the Lemmy dance continues.

Coming from Fedora/Cinnamon, I went with Tumbleweed/Plasma. As dumb as it sounds, checking out those "X things to do after installing openSUSE Tumbleweed" articles really helps get the ball rolling with adding the Packman repo, using opi for codecs, installing MS Fonts for compatibility, and other basic quality-of-life things like that. YaST does a lot of heavy lifting and hand holding, which can be good or bad depending on your Linux journey, experience, and/or philosophy - but it is very convenient. Honestly, like with anything Linux, you just kind of adjust til you find things you don't like - which, to be honest, my main list of things is less with openSUSE itself and more with KDE Plasma.

I guess that's a long way to say, I've been fine and haven't missed Fedora.

I don't think I've been on IRC since 2006ish. It was the gathering ground for my favorite private torrent tracker at the time. We had internet radio and all kinds of fun stuff.

Before that, like back in the AOL days, there were chat-based filesharing server rooms, where you would get a list of files, then request whatever illicit goods you wanted via chat commands.

I'm not really sure what people use IRC for now, but it's still active.

Yeah, I'm not sure why some people assume it's a problem. I've had a few accounts now. I went kbin to Beehaw (liked Lemmy more overall) to LemmyWorld to Lemmee (initially as an alt). Now Lemmee is the main. And if that goes sideways, well, I've got at least 3 other instances I've got my eye on as potentials. That's the beauty of the Fediverse.

Between Beehaw and LemmyWorld, I'm on my third account at this point. What starts as an alt quickly becomes the main under the right circumstances. 😂

People have been saying "the year of the Linux desktop" for 20 years now. I definitely think it's closer than ever now that gaming (aside from some anticheat stuff) is mostly there thanks to Valve putting in the work, for sure. Once Win 10 hits EOL, this being the last Windows holdout I have, it'll get Linux like the rest of them.

Started on kbin.social and beehaw.org. Realized I liked Lemmy just a little more early on and stuck with Beehaw. But then they started to defederate from larger instances with open signups. So I joined lemmy.world to be part of the bigger picture. Then it got too big and people want to play the DDoS game, so now I've got this alt on lemm.ee as well. We'll see where it goes from here. 😂

What'd you end up on, out of curiosity? I was on Fedora for a couple years, but with the whole Red Hat thing (that I don't fully understand the implications of), I switched to openSUSE Tumbleweed. Still have love for Mint, though, after all these years.

I'm amazed Spice is still around. I don't know why; I guess I just hadn't seen it or heard or thought about it in years.

I don't have a good ad blocker for you other than AdAway. It won't block YouTube ads on an unrooted phone, but it can on a rooted one. You can try in-browser mobile YouTube with Firefox + uBlock, but I would suggest switching away from the native YouTube app and getting NewPipe with SponsorBlock from F-Droid.

EDIT: Corrected link to current NewPipe.

I wish I could find the post/comment from a small instance admin that said it quickly became a nightmare trying to moderate without a team, and people were filling their drive storage with white noise files and crap, needing to be purged twice. I believe they even mentioned they were shutting down the instance and it being a cautionary tale of why not to join a smaller instance.

EDIT: waveform.social

Meta is killing off Messenger Lite soon. I don't know that they're embracing the Lite route as much anymore.

I just wish it had a precipitation radar. I'm pretty sure the data is available because I've seen another FOSS app that had it, but I can't remember which now.

I feel like logging in with Facebook and Google on sites is just as much about them gaining access to scrape more info about you as it is for your "convenience." While there could be value with Lemmy, it's not nearly what it is with Facebook and Google. So I would say not likely.

I was going to say I slightly disagree, but then I thought about it some more and realized they probably just see it as SteamOS in the same way Android doesn't make people think about Linux either.

I'm really looking forward to Sea of Stars. I'm not even big on turn-based RPGs, save for a few exceptions, but it's really speaking to me. Not sure if it scratches a nostalgia itch or if it's the gorgeous art, but I'm into it.

My personal favorite is the theory that it's coming ahead of the planned EMP on October 11. 🙄

The line you quoted as "editorializing" ("how the children obtained guns") is literally a line pulled directly from the article subheader. In other words, there's no editorialization from OP. Like, you do realize that... right? By your replies, I can't tell if you're just trolling hard or that oblivious.

Some instances have a 100kb limit, which is understandable, but very inconvenient if you don't have a way to shrink the filesize down. This is my best estimation as to why you get errors when trying to upload directly to posts, as it's happened to me bouncing between various instances. There's usually a statement in the "About this site"/sidebar area on your instance's main page.

Image uploads are limited to 100kb

So you'll have to use some alternatives; I've seen catbox.moe used a lot on Lemmy.

Troll 2. So many quotable lines and unforgettable scenes. And you don't even have to watch Troll 1, because there is no Troll 1 - at least not in relation to, or in the context of, this film.

Thank you so much for finding it! This is it. It really sucks that it has to come to that.

I wish the myth of Linux being a scary place would go away. I run Tumbleweed as a daily driver, and I only go into the terminal when I want to, but I definitely don't have to for anything I can think of off the top of my head - even if it might be easier. I think most distros do a good job of creating a user-friendly experience these days.

A decade old gaming PC (that was mid-tier at best back then), a PS5 that's not technically mine, a Switch, and an OG Xbox One. Tell me about it. 😂

You came out aggressively swinging from comment one, pal. Not sure what's got you at an 11, but I guess I could have been nicer. That's my bad.

Yep, lemm.ee was my alt for when lemmy.world was down. Decided to go ahead and just make it my main account.

I noticed Jerboa saying something about my account being verified on lemmy.world in between 502s and other network errors. I've never seen that before, but looks like it's not exclusive to you.

Run the program. You should start out with Download highlighted at the top. Put in your Lemmy instance and credentials where it asks. Hit the Download button, which will download a JSON file - it'll pull stuff like subscriptions from your Lemmy account. At the top, tab over to Upload. Put in the new instance and credentials, and hit Upload. It should pull the JSON file it created when you downloaded and "set up" your new account you're migrating to. You'll still need to go in and adjust some things, but your subscriptions (for example) should be there.

EDIT: To clarify, Download is for downloading your "old" account info, and Upload is for uploading that info to your "new" account.

That's why I created this lemm.ee account. It seemed silly just waiting for lemmy.world to come back up all the time. That's the beauty of the Fediverse. 😁

Wow, ed2k is still alive and kicking? I don't think I've used them since like 2005.

I would say no. The point of acting is to slip into a role and sell a part - ideally, believably. That's what makes a great actor.

My bad. I somehow misread and misunderstood that was the problem. I see someone else helped you get there. Hopefully the rest is easier. 😅

I made the mistake of fucking around and finding out with the AUR on Manjaro (before all the major drama). Broke it - though, it did make it 2 years beforehand, amazingly. But yeah, totally about Fedora. Fedora made me stop distrohopping.

Glad you're enjoying it. I haven't messed with Endevour much myself, as Arch-based stuff is a little more hands on than I want to be, personally, most of the time. I think the switch to Linux is easier than a lot of people think. It really just takes some patience, knowing that it'll be an adjustment, and accepting that you'll need to find alternatives to some apps.

For movies, PSA slotted right in the quality/size hole RARBG left for x265 movies. There's groups with better quality at higher filesizes (like QxR), but the ~2GB 1080p stuff PSA puts out suits my needs well.

TV is a little eh. XEN0N is where I ended up, but definitely isn't on par with ION10/ION265. I haven't found a great catch-all replacement. But I haven't had to grab a ton of TV lately, to be honest.
