But Huffman says the “pure infrastructure costs” of supporting these apps costs Reddit about $10 million each year.

Eh, so although, according to him, the third party apps cost Reddit 10 million per year, he still decided that 20 million a year from a single third party app developer is reasonable? I think he needs to learn some basic math...

Wow! And it was around 11000 last weekend?! This is great!

I was wondering why it looked different from some of the screenshots I see here but when I play on mobile it's just an endless list that gets bigger and requires a lot of scrolling. Switched my browser to desktop mode and now I can see you can drag and drop stuff. These types of games are so simple but so addicting. Ahhh

Play games on GeForce NOW at a higher resolution than 1080p. :-/

I'm from Europe, and for years I'd been using WhatsApp because everyone expected me to even though I didn't feel comfortable using it at all (because I care about my privacy and apparently not all of my friends/family members do). At some point I was forced to accept new terms that basically said it was okay for them to sell my data and that's where I drew the line and told everyone that I would no longer be using WhatsApp and that if they wanted to reach me they could call me, text me or message me on Telegram. I immediately uninstalled it.

I noticed friends and family found it a bit odd and inconvenient that I'd stopped using WhatsApp. And many companies seem to use WhatsApp to contact their customers (why can't they just email me instead...) and it seems they automatically assume everyone uses it, which I find a bit annoying. But ever since uninstalling it no one has been able to convince me to reinstall it and I plan to keep it that way.

Drink a glass of water during your meals. And make sure you eat enough proteins. High protein diets are very effective.

If you're craving chips, your body is telling you you need carbs. So get them from healthy sources of food instead. If you're craving something like cheese or meat, your body is telling you you need proteins, so make sure you get them from healthy sources of food as well.

Avoid high carb food that doesn't have a lot of nutrients. You will probably still feel hungry afterwards. Go for healthy food that makes you feel full and gives your body a good amount of nutrients.

And remember that healthy food can taste just as good. :)

I'd recommend POP!_OS. Very easy to install and use and most games I've tried to play work without any problems.

I had to remove the Joey app from my home screen and replace it with the Jerboa app (as in, put it in the same spot) because I kept accidentally opening Joey. -.-

Good point! Haha. The first time I saw that option I immediately clicked it but then suddenly I was thinking I wouldn't just block some random person without a good reason and then my mind went: it's not the same as REPORTING a community, is it?

Ugh I hate those ads. I had a OnePlus for a few years and forgot about all the bloat you get with a Samsung phone. Recently decided to go for a Samsung phone as the other options didn't seem much better. But now I keep getting ads from Google and Samsung in my notifications. I THINK I managed to disable some of it but it still keeps popping up once in a while.

Not sure about the upcoming months but I felt like 2024 started off with quite a few games coming out one after another, including Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth, Helldivers 2, Last Epoch and Dragon's Dogma 2.

And Manor Lords is coming out this month as well.

Ugh I hate that with YouTube ads as well (at least on my Android TV). I'll watch something, get interrupted by ads, sometimes minutes long and/or multiple ads, and after the ad(s) it jumps seconds or even minutes ahead from where I was watching. Then when I rewind to the point I was at it'll often play even more ads. It's super annoying but if they think this convinces me to buy their premium subscription they're very wrong. It's so off-putting.

Actually I accidentally clicked a Reddit link on Google earlier today and (I don't remember the subreddit) my first thought was: I'm pretty sure this subreddit took part in the blackout so why can I see its posts like nothing happened?

Some of my favourite that bring back good memories:

  • Age of Empires II
  • Caesar games
  • C&C Red Alert
  • Diablo
  • Magic & Mayhem
  • Pharaoh
  • Pokémon (Yellow, Blue/Red)
  • Postal
  • SimCity 2000
  • StarCraft
  • Warcraft II

Avalonia does support Linux. :)

I am trying it out now! I like the layout / UI; reminds me of Boost and Joey which I liked a lot. One thing that bothers me is the colour scheme, though. In light mode it's blue (?) and dark mode is more like some weird grey mode, and I'd prefer it to be a darker grey like in most apps (perhaps it could be more customisable so that people can change it to fit their preferences).

I've been told what it means yet every time I see it my brain goes "for the...." and I can't figure out the last 2 letters. And I have to look it up to be reminded that it means "fixed that for you". But every time I forget and I have to look it up again.

Yeah, I always like to check Reddit just before I go to sleep, to get sleepy, or when I can't sleep. Or when I'm waiting for something and there's nothing else to do to pass the time at that moment. So I'll automatically open Joey and....well, I guess that's the end of that.

Hang on, when I go to the Reddark website now a bunch of subreddits have gone from private to public. Is it because it's the 14th or because someone intervened with the protest?

Thanks so much for everything!

I know what you mean! I know it's gonna be gone soon yet I don't think I'm going to want to delete it. I bought it,I enjoyed it, and if all of this mess had not happened I would still continue to use and enjoy it. Sigh. :-\

I really like it so far, especially with the new apps. I'm using Boost and I honestly can't tell the difference between this and the old Boost for Reddit. The transition is really smooth. Oh, and everything on Lemmy feels very intuitive and the people seem less toxic.

And Mastodon...I really like it. I'll post something with the right hashtags and suddenly there's a conversation between a bunch of people with the same interests that goes on for weeks!

Slay The Spire and Monster Train are both very good, but often recommended. Other card games that are worth checking out: Gordian Quest, Vault of The Void and Across The Obelisk! The latter is a lot of fun when playing sigh up to 3 friends but it's good as a singleplayer game as well!

Thanks!

Joey, and Boost up until a few years ago.

I saw Lemmy has already grown a lot over the weekend and I'm all for it getting bigger! To be honest I also feel a lot more motivated to actually post here instead of lurk.

And the community seems super nice so far!

Baldur's Gate 3, mostly. But I've been playing Pathfinder Wrath of The Righteous when the others in the group I play with can't play.

Oh, and some Cities Skylines II here and there. Works reasonably well with the controller, but it's not perfect.

Hadn't heard of this before but looks interesting and fun! Found any good games for it?

Ah I do get the option to do it for individual communities as well (on Lemmy). Maybe it's a new feature?

Good to know! Thanks!

I really want a csharp (C#) one. I know there is one but no one has posted there yet. XD And more game/Indie dev.

And something equivalent to the aww subreddit (does anyone know one?).

I'm on POP!_OS. I'm sorry to hear it doesn't fix it. :( I wonder if a recent update caused this.

I've been experiencing something similar lately and what I found helps is to go to your audio settings in your OS and change the audio output device to something else and then change it back to the correct one. If it doesn't work the first try, try again.

I hope that helps. It works for me. I never had this issue until recently. It's really annoying. :-/

Oh, you can? That's really good to know! Thanks for the tip!

Yeah it's insane how expensive everything gets. I'm subscribed to a bunch of streaming services (like Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, etc) and sometimes I use them a lot but HBO, for instance, I've only used a few times and it's just sitting there on our smart TV taking up space and draining our bank account. But I got it when there was a really good deal and if I cancel and resubscribe I have to pay the full amount. Then again, I'm probably wasting more money with it now than I would've if I'd just cancelled and then resubscribed when I actually used it. Oops.

But yeah, I'm definitely not going to pay more for those services than I am now, so if the pricing gets even more ridiculous I'm out.

Thanks for the tip! Checking it out right now. Does it also work if my mobile carrier isn't on the list?

Me too!

I felt kind of bad last night knowing I might not ever be able to see my favourite subreddits again but honestly, I just moved to Lemmy and so far the community seems super nice and it's nice to be a part of something new and refreshing.

People actually feel like people here, not some randoms, if you know what I mean. Reminds me of the good old days where I had a bunch of forums I frequented instead of just Reddit. I like it!

That face. 😍 How could anyone say no to that face. Adorable!

Looks like it's Speedlink.

I have an account and never posted anything because it feels intimidating to post my first...post there. (Do people on Mastodon call it post or is there a different word similar to Twitter's 'tweets'?).

It looks really good though, but I find it more intimidating than Lemmy / kbin!
