I'm not so sure that this is anything to worry about. It's just another step in the game of cat and mouse. Is it annoying? Of course! But if/when it goes mainstream, ad blockers are just going to push updates that make it possible to block the ad block blocker. uBlock Origin does a really good job at blocking ad block blockers on most sites.

That's awesome! I suppose it might also explain why this torrent has been sitting in my queue for several weeks and is now suddenly at 100% from this one seeder. Do you know if the process is automated? Or does the user have to do the work of finding the torrents with matching files themselves? It's a bummer that qBittorrent apparently doesn't support it.

Also ReVanced!

What issues do you have with ReVanced? It works great! The only thing that's kind of a pain in the ass is that if you're rooted using KernelSU, you have to repatch the app every time you reboot. Fortunately I usually only reboot once a month when the new OTA gets released for my phone.

What I'd like to know is: Is Usenet worth bothering with?

lol I've seen plenty of social media drama, but this is probably the most hilarious drama I've ever seen. Imagine getting into a fight on the GitHub issue tracker. 😆

That's awesome! Honestly, the move away from Reddit is probably the best thing that could happen to our community. r/Piracy was always a few DMCAs away from not existing anymore. I'm not super familiar with how Lemmy works under the hood, but from what little I do understand, I think we're probably safer here.

I had no idea that this list existed, and even without it, I don't see any of these popups with uBlock Origin. I was an AdBlock user for years until about 9 months ago when I made the switch after learning that uBlock Origin was more robust. Apparently the devs of AdBlock have a policy against blocking ad block detection because they consider it to be unfair to website owners.

Yeah. Seeing those things makes me wonder what it must be like to have them as coworkers.

Well, I might have to try it for the torrent that I'm trying to download. Merging may not be effective for most cases, but in this case, this peer was the only one that managed to get a full copy of the torrent content. They disconnected before I could grab all of it though, so now I'm stuck at 50%. :(

Thank you for this. I set this up yesterday and started combing through my list of things that I've wanted to download but couldn't find even on my private trackers. I wish I knew about this sooner!

Got it. I was just took a look at the RED interview prep site, and I'm afraid my knowledge of digital audio is far too limited for me to pass it. I'll take a look to see if I can find something elsewhere.

Sounds very much like my experience: a wonderful project, but not without its flaws that are kind of annoying, but not a big deal for the price. :)

I do not think it will happen, but even if they do implement what you have described here, it doesn't matter. Users will be forced to sign in, and then from there, they can block ads as usual.

People can and have made sites that are better than TPB. Functionally, TPB's site is still usable (and also quite a nostalgia trip with its appearance), but in terms of the content, there are a ton of malware-laced torrents on there. I understand that you always have to be careful when torrenting regardless of where you get something from, but it's kind of a bad sign when you're looking for something, and most of the torrents you find are malicious.

Aww that is very sad. :( Why are these two dead ends for getting in to others? Is it because they are "easy" to get in to? In the case of TorrentLeech I can understand since they apparently do open signups now and then, but as far as I know, IPTorrents never does open signups and you can only get in through an invite.

I can totally understand prohibiting invite selling, but I don't understand why invite trading would be considered illegitimate. I would think that it would be a great way for good users on private trackers to help recruit each other. For what it's worth, here's a screenshot of the IPTorrent invitation rules. They make it sound like invitations are only for people you know in real life, but that isn't how I got mine, so it's not like that rule is very strictly followed.

I have never heard of RED. It sounds like they have an "interview" process where they ask to review your history on other trackers? My IPTorrents ratio is pretty good because most of the stuff that I download is Free Leech, so maybe that would be enough to get in?

lol imagine being so desperate for the protest to come to an end that you are even targeting a community that engages in legally questionable activity.

I'm sure the process of determining what mods to DM was automated, but even so, it's still pretty funny to me.

The thing that sucks about capitalism is that for as awful as it is, the idea that it breeds innovation is also true.

I've been on IPTorrents for a year but only used it when I couldn't find what I wanted elsewhere, but in the weeks following the shutdown of RARBG, I've been relying on it much more. I also got in to TorrentLeech when they opened signups for RARBG refugees and I like it.

So, based on that, I guess Usenet isn't worth it? I'd much rather try to use my footing in these two private trackers to get access to other ones. Perhaps I should be asking if there's a good place to do invitation exchanges? I have three IPTorrent invites that I'd be willing to exchange for invites to other trackers.

Ohh well that's sad. I didn't know that you could buy your way in. ☹️

Got it. I haven't used the IPTorrents or TorrentLeech forums at all. I'll have to check to see if they have anything like that.

Do you know of any private trackers that specialize in software? I'm not really big on music piracy, and as far as books go, everything I've ever wanted is on LibGen, so I don't know that I'd be meaningfully contributing to either of these trackers even if I did get in.

lol this is hilarious. I feel bad for Rohith, but the fact that it was possible for such a mistake to even be made is hilarious. The people being rude to him in the replies though all suck.
