You're all doing a great job! Please take care of yourselves too!

I deleted ~2300 comments and submissions.. Steve's not going to train AI off of my work while behaving the way he has. That entire company can go pound sand.

I blame reddit's culture rot for that. A decade ago or more, reddit was an overall better place to be. It's going to take time to shake that off.

But the admins here are doing an amazing job fostering an environment where having overwhelmingly good experiences is the norm!

Space. The 64gb micro already has little usable space for games, and hibernate requires that you write all of the contents in RAM to disk. Rather than fracture their feature set by model options, Valve instead decided not to bother with it (just guessing).

That, and as another person said, hibernate just hasn't enjoyed great support under Linux. There are definitely other issues that need to be fixed with the Deck, like the audio bug while docked and the need to disable half the CPU cores in order to have good emulation performance.

Thank you very much for your work! It's sorely needed.

Excellent! Thank you for doing this!

Canonical has completely torched my original opinion of them. I started with Red Had Linux back in the late 90s, but it wasn't until I could get a better-than-dialup Internet connection in the mid 2000s that I was able to finally dump Windows.

At that point, I was hearing a lot of good things about Ubuntu, so I gave it a go. Like most Linux users, I've distro hopped. I kept coming back to Ubuntu though. It was just so nice to have a polished Debian available out of the box.

Once they moved the default UI to Unity, I became less enchanted and would use the alternative releases instead. But then came the Amazon ads. And then Snaps and other not-so-hot choices. And now shit like this.

And IBM has destroyed Red Hat now too. Sigh.

If you tried it a few days ago during the reddit blackouts, it was getting overwhelmed with traffic. The sole owner/operator has largely improved things in short order though. It was much better today.

Most are system-on-a-chip implementations with only okay compatibility. Color palettes will be slightly off or sounds will be a slightly wrong pitch, won't support all carts, etc.

Your best bet for playing your games on a modern screen is to get an FPGA based system, a top loader NES modded with HDMI output or simply use a cycle-accurate software emulator on a computer.

On March 28, 2022, U.S. federal judge Stephanos Bibas accepted a motion by investors Innovate 2 Corp., Continental General Insurance Company, and Leo Capital Holdings LLC to sue Motorsport Games in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware. In the filing, the investors accuse four Motorsport Games executives of securities fraud, claiming that the executives provided misleading statistics to the remaining investors of 704Games about the company's financial situation and the sales performance of its main product, the NASCAR Heat franchise. The investors allege that the information they received allowed Motorsport Games to buy out the remaining shares of 704Games at a significant discount to what Motorsport Games offered at their IPO, at which point the NASCAR Heat series accounted for a majority of Motorsport Games' total net revenue, estimated at 99%. [48]

In November 2022, Motorsport Games received a notice of non-compliance with Nasdaq listing rules after its board of directors resigned over funding disputes. The company reported losses of $7.5 million against revenue of $1.2 million in the third quarter of 2022.[49]

In January 2023, Motorsport Games organised the fourth annual Le Mans virtual 24-hour endurance race, a parallel to the real-life 24 Hours of Le Mans event. The race took place in Motorsport Games' sim racing video game rFactor 2 and featured notable motorsport drivers such as Formula One World Champion Max Verstappen and former Formula One driver Romain Grosjean. The event was plagued with server issues and disconnections, and featured a lot of backlash from participants. Verstappen described the event as a "clown show"[50] and online content creator and participant Jimmy Broadbent stated that this would ultimately "damage sim racing"[51] as a medium. Several days after the event, an anonymous employee threatened to publicly leak the source code for NASCAR Heat 5, NASCAR 21: Ignition, KartKraft, and the unreleased IndyCar game unless unpaid wage payments were made.[52]

Seems like a well-run company.

In practice this would be difficult to implement because each instance has its own take on how to shape the code for their site. There's no obligation to create an instance so that it will be compatible with everyone else's instance, and in fact I would guess that would be effectively impossible.

Let's say Instance A allows porn, and a user on A wants to create an account on Instance B, but Instance B doesn't want any porn on their server. At minimum, a way to keep any porn on that user's account from syncing to B's server would have to be implemented.

This is only a single case. There will be plenty more small issues like that to have to work around, so it will take a lot of time to get all that logic designed, implemented and tested.

The cloning of an account might also involve a not-insignificant amount of data being transferred. What if the receiving server wants to limit the amount of data storage for a new account so that they're not burdened with storing tons of data for new, unknown users? How do you then determine what subset of that user's data to import?

Maybe these things will happen with enough time, but for now I think it's best for now at least if everyone thinks of each instance as its own separate website that can communicate with other similar sites rather than a set of cloned sites where which one you pick doesn't matter.

Please don't take this as argumentative, as we need people to share ideas like yours! I just keep seeing messages that give me the impression that people have expectations for the Threadiverse that aren't currently realistic given what the state of the software is now.

They're almost literally going to cut off their nose to spite their face. The absolute lack of understanding of the consequences of their actions is... entertaining at least.

Jackie Treehorn treats objects like women!

I enjoyed Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. It's a bit shorter than U4, but still worth playing. I liked Chloe and Nadine together.

I noticed yesterday on Steam that a game I was interested in had a much higher percentage of negative reviews from its Early Access days. Since there weren't enough votes overall to offset these negatives, it really hurt the game's overall score.

The company made the surprise announcement during its E3 Nintendo Direct presentation on June 13, 2017. All that was revealed was a 43-second animation showing outer space and a '4' symbol appearing, along with a message reading “Metroid Prime 4 now in development for Nintendo Switch“.

Six years and counting.

You had me in the first half, not gonna lie

Try this: handwrite your negative thoughts out. Then try to prove to yourself why the feeling isn't true. Again, write that out. Now tear up the paper and get rid of it. Don't keep a journal of it.

You would be stunned how much this helps. I got this technique from a doctor who wrote a book about living with what he calls neuropathic disorder (in my case chronic pain). In the book he describes how we can easily make ourhealth worse through negative thoughts. It's very possible for bad feelings to cause physical pain because the two share the same neural pathways, so it's critically important not to let your emotions get the better of you.

The book is called Back In Control (the author is a back surgeon). It's a good read for anyone with chronic illnesses, or even just for those who want to explore how to better control their emotions and live healthier.

All we can do is keep trying to move forward.

Are you a member of a group that is constantly marginalized in our society? If you are, then it shouldn't surprise you that it gets incredibly exhausting just trying to live a normal life. If OP is also a member of such a group, then what they're experiencing here is not only believable, but it is people like yourself - denying what they see is real - that make it worse by calling them names.

Want to be nice? Then don't make bullshit smooth brain comments like this. You were just fine until your second paragraph, at which point you became part of the problem.

It's an amazing system. Valve is now selling refurbished models for a 20% discount. Presumably they'll continue selling them in the future when maybe you've got room for it.

I just had to replace the heat cartridge and thermister on my hot end. The print I had going when they failed was 35/37 hours in.

I still have massive affection for my 3D printer, but the HP inkjet printer my wife bought during the early days of Covid is my mortal enemy.

I am very sorry to read about your troubles. I have similar struggles, but not because of race. Rather, it's because of disabilities that are invisible to others but have profoundly affected my ability to support myself and my wife. People are pretty terrible a lot of the time, and those people tend to stand out more as they like to make themselves loud in their terribleness. Good people really are everywhere, but I think they tend to be less visible and quieter.

I was unemployed for 2.5+ years due to health issues, so I also spent a full year looking for decent work only to be forced to accept less money than I'm worth (because of prior work history in the same industry, not because I think I'm special or whatever).

That experience really affected my self worth for a while. It feels degrading to be treated like you're a less-than-acceptable candidate because of something that isn't your fault and you cannot change.

I accept you as my sibling in suffering, and I wish you the best. Hopefully your situation will change for the better. Changing careers is hard enough without extra discrimination on top!

Good! Good. Let the Linux flow through you. It makes you powerful!

Apologies. I was fatigued from a World Tour.

I disagree that pushing back has no effect. In fact I would argue that it does more than a downvote because it's much more clear WHY the comment is trash and shouldn't have been made.

My thoughts precisely!

A situation that I could see evolving over time is Lemmy/Kbin instances that are focused on a single or small number of subjects instead of being reddit-like and having a space for everything under the sun.

I can imagine that administration of such an instance would be easier in some ways because of the more narrow focus of the site. For example a 3D printing focused instance could have it's own sections for news, memes, reviews, etc. In such an instance a politics section could be focused on only politics dealing with 3D printing. All other political submissions get purged. Nice and tidy, and with clear rules that are easy to follow and understand site wide. Nobody cries about "censorship" because you don't have warring camps antagonizing each other in the first place.

Instances like that could also choose to only federate with related instances with similar focuses knowing that many of the problems that come along with massive discussion forums are at least abated.

How is this even a response? Oh, just do what you deem appropriate and nothing else? Get outta here with that nonsense.

That's a shame you couldn't enjoy it with your friend. Can I safely assume you're playing on Windows?

I've played a fair bit into the first game on my Steam Deck, and it plays great! Sometimes the compatibility tools in Linux are better for playing older games than those in Windows.

You could try HoloISO (community edition of SteamOS) in order to get an environment that's already setup for you. You don't even have have to permanently install it. It should be able to boot up to it from an external drive and play the game from there.

It's not no work to do that, but if you really want to play...

Yo ho!

It automatically updated the icon on my home screen (FF Mobile)!

They get new knowledge placed in their heads while using the transporters.

That probably is the best solution because it keeps the moderation burden off of the individual sites.

Lemmy.world was taking a "let's wait and see" stance towards them last I checked. This is after the community asked them to not federate with Threads.

So because you haven't personally experienced something they're reporting, then it's not real? That's not intelligent at all, especially given what else you just said.

Don't pretend you're trying to be nice while insulting people. That's some pure reddit-style bullshit. We'll go our separate ways, just know that I will call this sort of hostile garbage out each and every time. This is supposed to be a nicer place to be, but comments like yours aren't making it one.
