Why do we need a new Newpipe? There is also LibreTube already which imo is already better than NewPipe as it for example has sponserblock built-in (which NewPipe refused to add).

Ugh, I feel the same. I know the top 1% of the world or whatever emits tons and tons more CO2 per year than the other 99%, but I didn't know it was this bad. That plane is flying multiple times per day. Sure Musk is probably not in it all the time, but that doesn't matter.

Private jets should be banned all together, let's see how quickly they suddenly find out the internet exists.

This seems like an American problem. This used to be the case in the Netherlands as well but over the years people have learned that SIM-only subscriptions are so much easier and cheaper that the majority of people now use SIM-only. In fact I know of no one around me that does it differently.

Also $45 per month is still expensive lol. I pay €12 a month. Sure, not unlimited but I never call or SMS so the 100 a month I get for that is way more than enough and I never finish the 10GB of data a month either. I can make either unlimited for really not that much more.

We definitely have a housing crisis, but taking Amsterdam as an example is not representative for the entire country. That city is way more expensive than all other cities here and has jokes about it for ages, not just due to the current crisis.

export EDITOR=nano.

But (neo)vim is amazing so there is no need to do that.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 1 and 2. They still look as good as the day they were released, while RCT3 looks terrible now.

Aurora isn't a reskinned F-Droid and neiter does it use the same repositories. It's a client for the Google Play Store, but one that doesn't require an account or Google Services. And that's not what F-Droid is.

I personally rent the cheapest VPS I could find and put Tailscale on it. My server at home then connects to that Tailscale network and the VPS runs nginx acting as a proxy forwarding everything to the server through Tailscale.

Besides having no annoying networking issues it also has the benefit that I can move houses without having to update A records to have the domain point to the new IP address because the VPS IP ofc remains the same.

Alpine Linux. I started using it to dogfood my packages I was maintaining for postmarketOS but I've come to really like it. It does help that I can just fix packaging problems (or just missing packages entirely) myself.

Previously I used Gentoo which I still have a place in my heart for. If I'd ever move to anything else it would probably be Gentoo again.

I mean, it is. RedoxOS is just that. But it's not Linux and that means a lot of things.

In fact, I'm pretty sure free refills is only an American thing. And that kind of culture is the biggest cause of obesitas. McDonalds definitely isn't healthy in Europe either, but at least we don't have it as bad as it could be 😅

The reasons for choosing Musl over glibc are largely unrelated for choosing a service manager. You can want one without the other just fine.

Not really. They are probably just missing the required entries in ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs. For example mine:

XDG_DESKTOP_DIR="$HOME/Desktop"
XDG_DOCUMENTS_DIR="$HOME/Documents"
XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR="$HOME/"
XDG_MUSIC_DIR="$HOME/Music"
XDG_PICTURES_DIR="$HOME/Pictures"
XDG_PUBLICSHARE_DIR="$HOME/"
XDG_TEMPLATES_DIR="$HOME/"
XDG_VIDEOS_DIR="$HOME/Videos"

The file is made by the tool xdg-user-dirs-update in my case, normally ran by a desktop environment but obviously won't be automatically ran in SwayWM.

Strange that some apps allow configuring it rather than just doing it automatically...

Kotlin isn't the problem, missing the various Android API's is.

Immutable distro. I love the concept but don't want to move away from Alpine Linux...

Nothing in Plasma Bigscreen is specific to ARM. You just got to find a distribution that ships it for x86 or compile it yourself.

But tbf I wouldn't recommend Plasma Bigscreen, it currently has no developers and is missing a lot of polishing and general apps.

Why don't you want Musl?

That's why I said YouTube, not the other stuff.

Then again, nothing is preventing you from uploading shirt videos to PeerTube as well.

EDIT: I wonder if Microsoft are making anti-Linux accounts to try and hamper Linux.

Lol. No, they're not. Really.

What kind of conspiracy theory is that, Microsoft really doesn't feel threatened by Linux.

This explains it! I thought it didn't connect any more due to my system being weird, but it's sad to see that isn't the case 😢

I loved the plug and play on Linux. Guess I'll use it wired from now on, disappointing...

No they didn't. It literally got an update this week (3.22). Laying off part of the team (which is worrying) is not the same as actually killing it.

I daily drived the original Jolla Phone. However since I realized that it was even more proprietary (the core apps + UI toolkit Silica is proprietary) than a simple AOSP Android ROM, I decided that my next phone would be a regular Android phone again.

Now I'm dual-booting both postmarketOS and CalyxOS (which is an Android ROM) oh my SHIFT6mq and I have no reason to ever go back to SailfishOS, even though I liked the experience at the time.

Sorry if this post isn’t fit for this community - I’ll delete it if it isn’t.

You're asking a Linux community about what key you should buy for Windows, how is this at all relevant?

Then literally just use Arch. I don't understand why people want Arch but then install something different. If you don't want to go through the install process then it's honestly just not for you, but if you really want to try anyway give EndeavourOS a shot.

NixOS sounds amazing in some regards, but I'm not really interested in learning a whole programming language for it... I have enough to do already.

Did you seriously just name Denmark a country in North America?!

Alpine Linux on my desktop and laptop, Alpine on a Raspberry Pi 3 working as a network/Bluetooth speaker for 5.1 surround speakers, postmarketOS on 2 RockPro64's which I'm currently replacing for a single x86 NAS running Alpine.

In general (there are exceptions) containers do not use service managers at all. They start 1 command and that's it.

YouTube already has that, it's called PeerTube.

The real question is, why are you considering Manjaro in the first place? What does it do that a different distro, without all the hate (which I personally think are 100% justified), doesn't do? Why "risk" it?

Personally I made sure SSH is only accessible when connected through a VPN setup for that purpose. As in, that same machine hosts a Wireguard setup (through Tailscale) and you need to connect to that first before SSH is available. And then SSH also only accepts key-based authentication. I don't think I need more than that?

I experienced that issue, AMD replaced it for free for me. Still rocking that R7 1700 to this day, still going to strong!

Wait, how did you view this post via Mastodon? I know both Lemmy and Mastodon use ActivityPub but the UX and urlpatterns are quite different and client-specific. What is the format of the link you used to view this?

No because why would I? Various things, like browsing the web as you mentioned, aren't made for the terminal. I see literally no point in trying to use the terminal for everything, I already have enough use-cases for it.

KDE Plasma also has this through kio-gdrive, it works amazingly well. I'm glad the various Linux platforms have solved that problem at least.

What a weird name for such a distro though... I thought this was meant for usage on boats or something.

Not next release, the one after. And even then probably not by default yet. And SXMO will not even support systemd at all. Yes OpenRC will remain an option.

systemd is good software and people should find proper reasons for disliking it for once instead of just following the hate train.

You can't seriously call them "countries in North America" though, that's just ridiculous.

I'm just waiting for M3 support...
