You build a bridge and do they call you Drath'nor the Bridge Builder? You educate the young and so they call you Drath'nor the Teacher? You protect your sheep in a storm and do they call you Drath'nor the Shepard?

No

But you make ONE dodgy curry for the village...

Touch screens in cars are stupid: you need to take your eyes off the road to use them. Buttons and knobs, once you have learned them, can be operated by touch and maybe a quick flick of your eyes.

I do not get the sexualisation of daddy. It just feels pedo and cringy to me. if I was having sex with someone and they called me daddy I'd probably immediately go soft

Nickelback. I mean they're not good but they're not really bad either, just a complete nonevent. They don't deserve the hate they get, they don't really deserve anything

KDE is better than Windows

Audible Audacity is more audio programme than most people need

KdenLive is more video editor than most people need

Kritta is more art programme than most people need

There are edge cases where there are professional programmes that might be better but unless you are a professional you do not need them and even semi-pros would likely be better served by those three

"The best time to plant a tree is fifty years ago. The second best time is right now" - essentially don't worry about what you could have done better, or what could have been, make now and the future as good as you can

and

"If you don't fall off occasionally, you're not trying hard enough" - originally told to me in the context of learning to windsurf (I still can't windsurf), but applicable in a lot of areas. This doesn't mean try to fall off, it means failure is a natural part of growth, not something to be shunned

No, but fascists are troll (and worse. Much worse). And yes, trump and his cult are fascists

Top quality luddite opinions right here. Plenty of fear and oprobium being directed against the technology, while taking the kleprocratic capitalism and kakistocracy as a given that can't be challenged.

President of Senegal. not being Senegalese, nor having ever been to Senegal, I doubt I would be eligible no matter how much they offered to pay me

No because I live in a sane country (well, kinda... but the NHS is still free, and will remain so assuming the tories don't get back in next election)

Jesus, how fast was that dog travelling?!

How very dystopian

I don't think he is a knight who says "NI!"

Interestingly this is why we have one of the best pictures of the aftermath of the 7/7 tube bombings in London. Someone in the next carriage had been told if he was late one more time without a good excuse he would be fired, so he took a picture of the devastated carriage. It was only later that he found out what had actually happened

There is, of course, a relevant xkcd - it's yesterday's https://xkcd.com/2898/

Wow, op got pissy!

Way back when I was just beginning to experiment with Linux back in the 90s I installed ZipSlack, which was a GUIless 100MB distro based on Slackware that ran from a folder on Windows. It was okay but I couldn't really do much with it and back then 100MB was a chunk of space, so i went to delete it. But i thought I would give it one last hurrah by deleting it from Linux. So I made use of the infamous rm -rf and sat there thinking "this is taking a long time"... then realised I had my Windows drive mounted as a sub folder and I was in the process of wiping my hard drive of everything!

They are... certainly icons. I can't get any more excited than that I'm afraid

KDE is for Kids. GNOME is for Grownups.

I cannot even begin to describe what a dumb take this is. I really hope i's satire

No, but okay... but why do you hell do you care what the person in the stall next to you is doing? Are you watching?

I once saw and am still disappointed I didn't buy, a hoodie that read "Social engineering: Because there's no patch for human stupidity"

I have never understood why gnome seems to the go-to choice for default DE for so many distros

I'm using Manjaro because SuSE Tubleweed didn't want to install that day. People like to hate on Manjaro but I honestly don't know why - the defaults are fine and I very rarely have issues despite using software from the AUR

Erm... how did you miss that as a kid?

Earnest replied to me saying he knows about this and will fix it soon (apparently it should be an easy fix), but he's taking the day off - I'd say he deserves it! https://kbin.social/m/AskKbin/t/49301/Hello-from-Lemmy-How-s-life-there-over-on-the-other#entry-comment-210607

edit: yeah okay I'm bragging that Earnest-Senpai noticed me... Oh dear
