From the article: Meta’s supplemental privacy policy states, “You may deactivate your Threads profile at any time, but your Threads profile can only be deleted by deleting your Instagram account.”

I interpret it as that you can't delete your Threads profile, unless you delete your Instagram account. So it's not as if you try to delete your Threads account and oopsie your Insta is gone as well... same, but still different.

And worse than that, the article states:

Mrs Scott was unable to free herself and, as Cliff drove away, she was dragged under the Go North East vehicle and remained pinned under its rear wheels for almost an hour.

Houses right on the sea shores or partially submerged by sea water.

At least they had compassionate nurses…

Painted into a corner, the Nusslocks were forced to drive to a nearby facility that was not bound by religious restriction — but not before a nurse at Providence handed them a bucket and some towels “in case something happens in the car.”

Cows are big, strong and heavy, and docile dogs can also kill. Any kind of caution around things large or feisty enough to kill you is healthy.

Her story is so heartbreaking, and I am glad she found her voice to speak up. And through that help and support other women who might be facing similar circumstances.

I’d guess some Louisiana lawmakers would consider this consequence of the abortion ban as something that is “working as intended”.

As if we Swedes wouldn’t have mandatory education about the major religions of the world during school already. And I am pretty sure almost every school library carries copies of the quran, just as the bible and some other major scriptures.

I disagree regarding lying down for bed. Never teach your body to associate the relaxation of meditation with sleep. Unless you only need it for immediately before you sleep to calm your mind.

I can now have mindfulness while doing activities (not driving ofc). Your body will do what you teach it, and I’ve stopped falling asleep meditating when I removed it from bedtime.

Yes, the world needs more meditation.

Except the bystander effect mentioned in the “original” Kitty case is not the same as a shocked “We’re here and what the fuck just happened in the last two seconds!?”.

I’ve been an eye witness, and it’s a serious difference between “a few seconds of something horrible happening” and “wtf, someone is doing prolonged horrible deeds and murdering someone”.

The picture looks like it’s AI generated for a The Onion piece. 😂

Like Amazon, which only had net losses for several years (from 1994 to 2002) in order to focus on aggressive growth and outcompeting other similar services by setting excessively low prices on books and media.

I want to add my praise to the heap.

I'm pretty happy with Voyager on mobile, but when writing something, it's not ideal.

The generic Lemmy UI is more than OK on desktop, but the lack of error code reporting to the user was frustrating, at times I tried to resubmit posts and comments and the spinning Submit button just kept on going, for some communities in particular. So I stopped posting in these communities.

Now, with Alexandrite, I feel like this is a good UI that I really like. And I love that you write out the background error message for why posting or commenting fails!

Really nice job!

Not all Nordic countries. The main standard work weeks in Sweden are 40 hours for office work employees. Our collective union agreements for most office work places I know of agree on at least half hour unpaid lunch and at least two 15 minute paid breaks each work day. Every place I worked for had flexible hours, which meant I could choose between turning up between 7 or 9, as long as I didn’t miss meetings and worked 40 hours a week at an average, based on monthly calculations. And any overtime was compensated with double time off and/or monetary overtime compensation.

This will of course be different for shift work or nurse/doctor positions. But I’ve never worked an 8-16 job.

He was (likely) wrongfully imprisoned for a crime that occurred 26 years ago. So it’s both long imprisonment and the costs of trying to overturn the conviction, including fact seeking, labs, lawyers, prosecutors, judges etc.

Many, if not most, women (who are either voluntarily sexually active or involuntarily) will eventually need an abortion (due to miscarriage, foetal abnormalities or other crisises), plan B or birth control of some sort, but most will not admit it.

I stock up on plan B and misoprostol to help, or know where to guide people to seek help so that they’re safe medically. I’d quite confidently say that most women, at least that I know, have needed this kind of aid sooner or later in their lives.

I feel similarly. My reactions were “Why?!?”, “Are you utter idiots?!” and “I hope that your hate and idiocy isn’t passed down through gene pools!”.

Edit: I agree with other posters that it’s demeaning to troglodytes for someone not a troglodyte to claim that these wastes of air and proteins are troglodytes.

Welp, John Oliver had a time limit in that. Let’s hope that John (and HBO or whatever) is/are still feeling generous.

Well, and he also has Greek ancestry, so it’s a delicate diss without going overtly into politics.

Samsung who won’t even provide price estimates/quotes for reparation of utensils WITHIN WARRANTY without being paid $25 before hand. Their products suck that much.

It was just her head and arm. giggles

... and they totally omitted Aaron Swartz as a founder.

The actions of Reddit the last few years (and especially the last few months) have probably increasingly caused Aaron to spin in his grave so much that he could power Los Angeles and San Francisco both with his beyond-the-grave outrage if anyone cared to harness that energy source.

Also a meh article, with spelling and grammatical errors (deliberate?) and omitting even simple details.

... so you're telling me I need five slots for spoons?

I’m not from the US, but I have the distinct opinion that both Biden and Trump are too old. My parents are/were younger, and I wouldn’t trust them with decisions about anything other than what they want for breakfast.

Bernie Sanders seems saner, but you guys really need some lesser-than-septuagenarian who has non-Xitter oomph, and who has compassion and respect for human life and the planet.

Very exciting.

Phone friendlier links: Archive.ph, Archive.org

Just wish I hadn't opened that site in Safari on iPhone first, putting it in reader mode crashed it so hard I had to restart my phone.

Precisely, thank you. I was going to post an image, but whenever I added the image when posting the post stalled. Fixed now.

The parking disc commonly looks like this:

The sign that states times for free parking can look like this:
Parking sign.

My parking disc is digital and once I set the current time and date it’s supposed to be a set-and-forget as it automatically sets the (rounded up) time to when I arrived: Automatic parking disc

I have read The Kite Runner, and it contains situations involving manipulation and sexual abuse including rape. However hard it is to read in some parts (and especially if you’re grown and can read a lot into the obvious mental and physical abuse of children that perhaps isn’t always obvious to actual children), it is a damn good book showing life, love and hope from a non-western perspective.

It’s actually designed for rain, and adapted for the extreme rains expected with the torrents and downpours resulting from climate change. It looks nice upstream, and the work will continue downstream where there are currently porous drain planes and culverting.

I sincerely hate Makowiec, but will eat it out of politeness (and will poke out some stuff due to “gluten”).

Had a funny funny with it at a festival a couple of years ago, just post the Covid restrictions. Had eaten a heavy load of poppy pastries that last week due to relatives birthdays and christenings, and I was pulled into “routine testing” as I was in a pretty “Happy” company at the festival where we all were held over night because some had taken illicit funsies.

Yeah, was a lot of misunderstandings and not fun.

There are two more spoons I lack in this collection. But no, I just like this series as it's semi-retro, and I thrift it at second hand stores and at auction sites.

I was joking otherwise, just wanted to throw my punch in this discussion. :D

How do you feel about forks in the same slot?

Although, I have to admit I keep these in three separate slots.

Made up stories… by the BBC? By the police? By the perpetrator?

Go by the study. And then if there are other studies, look at the combination of them. Ignore the articles speculations, they do not undermine a study that was supposed to look at “how much micro and nano particles of plastics are released and we’re subjected to when microwaving food in plastic containers”.

The tool that “curses” teenagers with extreme biceps or boobs while simultaneously warping door frames and trees around them.

That could be fixed in the apps and UI:s as a cosmetical improvement based on a timezone entered in the user settings. UTC is... universal.

In large parts of Europe, the onus is on the car driver/owner to follow the parking rules, either the common street ones or the privately owned ones.

I can’t remember the exact time I parked any more, but let’s say I parked at 10:25. If I had a manual parking disc/timer, I would have set the time manually to 10:30. Then I would have been able to park for two hours from the time on my parking disc/timer.

My automatic timer had crept forward for some weeks, so when I parked it rounded off to one hour later, 11:30, which I didn’t think of to check.

When the parking attendant went by my car, he/she looked at the current time, and the time my parking disc/timer showed was one hour later than the current time. And as they don’t show date of parking, I was in the wrong for
a) having parked there the previous day, or
b) having set the time wrong on purpose, which is also a finable offense.

Cute. Hope it isn’t deadly.

Yup, (non-slippery) chop sticks are the absolute best for most crisps or cheesey-sticky-powder related snacks.

Lacking chop sticks, wooden tooth picks or barbecue sticks will do in a pinch (or stab).
