Citing an internal investigation, the Chinese ByteDance-owned app said its systems correctly identified the breach, but the ads were approved due to “human error” by a moderator.

This makes it so much worse. If it were "our algorithms didn't catch it" that'd be one thing, but "our algorithms caught it but we ran them anyway" reeks of malice.

Yeah that's like saying someone setting you up on a blind date is arranging a marriage for you

There's a great Veritasium video recently about this exact thing: https://youtu.be/d6iQrh2TK98

It's a human thing, though. This is just more evidence of LLM's problem with garbage in, garbage out: it's human biases being present in a system that people want to claim doesn't have them.

The least terrible option is not invading...

Microsoft has been trying to be more proactive about this: they changed all their documentation to say Entra ID instead of Azure Active Directory...before actually changing Azure AD to be called Entra ID...

I think there's absolutely a space for an industry achievement/recognition award like the Oscar, Tony, etc. The Game Awards just seems like the most cynical attempt at forcing one into the video game space.

Holy shit, I can't believe it. This is massively good news for workers!

The writer has stated in other comments that the writer is non-binary, which is the closest I can get to an answer to the question, but the actual answer to this question doesn't matter. We can apply gender identity to humans and non-humans (e.g. animals, fictional aliens, heck even ships) but divinity is not a gender, it's a supernatural or spiritual status.

People are free to identify as whatever gender (or non-gender) they so choose but by telling me "you must accept that I am divine," we're having an entirely different discussion. By requesting capitalized pronouns, the writer is also requesting their spiritual beliefs to be affirmed, which is implicitly (and apparently intentionally) forcing the other party to change their spiritual beliefs.

So, wait, just to be clear: the writer is claiming that the writer's gender is not a gender but instead that the writer has some divine status?

M/F/NB/genderqueer/etc aside, human vs divine is not a gender question and this is no longer a discussion about pronouns showing respect and affirmation of gender identity, this is literally a demand for worship.

This entire situation has been bothering me for nearly 24 hours now and I think this is the best summary I've read of why the concept is bothering me so much.

As the writer has stated, the writer views any pronouns that are not capitalized as misgendering them, and stated the pronouns were chosen specifically to reflect the writer's self-identified divine status as "goddess gender" (a term that, as far as I can tell, only exists on one wiki and the writer's blog).

The choice of capitalized pronouns was specifically chosen to imitate reverential capitalization, indicating divine status. As part of the writer's argument, this is intended to put the writer on the same level as the Abrahamic God. The writer also states in the article that "by affirming trans capitalised pronoun users, generally you are dismantling monotheistic oppression," which is a wild claim that I cannot agree with. The use of capitalized pronouns is therefore intended to strip the other party of their beliefs, either as a monotheist or atheist (as using reverential pronouns would also affirm a polytheist worldview that they disagree with).

I cannot use any pronouns that do not acknowledge the writer's claimed divine status without the writer claiming I am misgendering them. This is the most respectful way I can refer to the writer without acknowledging divine status or actively misgendering the writer.

I am more than happy to use whichever (lowercase and grammatically correct) pronouns are requested, as I am more than happy to refer to you as they/them, (which is also the default I try to use, though I understand some people are frustrated with they/them as it can strip a chosen gender identity).

Divine status is not a gender identity. Words mean things, and language can evolve, but this is specifically appropriating a style of writing while disparaging the source of that style.

But the form in which the writer affirms the writer's divine identity (again, not gender) is using reverential capitalization, a form of worship. If the writer said "I am a kami and use ke/ker pronouns" there wouldn't be a worship aspect (though again, identity as a divinity or other non-human is not a gender).

I really like Wikipedia for stuff like this. This chart is helpful for a quick overview and you can always dig deeper into the linked pages for each specific CAT cable:

Hearing rumors @WeAreFarmers might pull out of Florida. If that’s true my office is going to explore every avenue possible for holding them accountable. Don’t get to leave after taking policyholder money. Can’t write auto if you’re not doing homeowners either. Zero communication!

"Don't get to leave after taking policyholder money"

What do you think insurance is? You're not "purchasing" anything, you're buying an ability to recover losses. It's not like when I cancel my policy I get to walk away with a pile of boards from Home Depot on my insurance company's dime because I haven't had major damage to my house.

It's like if Netflix decided to cancel all subscribers in FL and the response was "I gave you all that money and I don't get to keep watching your movies forever???"

Recompiling my foundation and hoping it still holds the house up when I'm done.

Yeah, here's a Last Week Tonight about them

I just want to respect my friend's transition.

"They are affiliated with a Korean entertainment company, debuted in South Korea, and sing in Korean," said one commenter, suggesting they should be defined as K-pop.

I think this is a pretty reasonable list of criteria to be considered K-pop. I might even replace "singing in Korean" and "debuted in South Korea" with "target the same market/charts" (I'm sure there are K-pop groups that have at least something in English).

It's the same reasoning I give for why Avatar TLA isn't anime: it's certainly anime inspired, but it's an American animation company and not a Japanese one. This group seems obviously K-pop to me.

Apparently I require further clarification: two friends went to different colleges and moved to different parts of the country. They did not keep in contact with each other but I kept on contact with both of them. The content of the conversation was not the transition itself, it was sharing essentially a blog post related to the topic of conversation (e.g. "Oh yeah, did you see Sarah's post about the new Wheel of Time show? Sarah Morgan? Used to go by Brett? Yeah, she came out as trans a couple years ago. Anyway, so what she was saying in this post was..."

If you define this as gossip then I honestly don't know what wouldn't be considered gossip any time any third party is brought into any conversation.

To be clear, their transition has been quite public and there is no question of acceptance by this friend. It is simply a circumstance of lives going in different directions that these two people are not actively friends and there is not a safety question.

Edit: I see your edit and obviously this is an easy solution given infinite time, but tends to break the flow of conversation...

I know not all transitions are the same but is there a general rule for this sort of situation.

1 more...

Regarding your first comment, please see my other reply. I understand not all transitions are straightforward regarding safety but this is not the case here.

Essentially, saying "Do you remember Sarah Morgan?" (negative response) "She used to go by Brett" would generally be acceptable?

Sure but on a human scale?

I'm confused as to why these sorts of articles continue to get posted to /c/Socialism?

I'm sure this is a very funny joke I don't get. Yes, I know, I'm sure I'm great at parties too.

In case it was unclear: obviously both names are fake.

  • Better thermal conductivity (cast iron actually sucks at this but nobody seems to acknowledge it)

One of the main selling points of cast iron is the fact that it has low thermal conductivity - it takes a while to get hot, but then it stays hot for longer. This is an advantage for some types of cooking and is why I only use my cast iron for specific things.

Fwiw, I agree that if you only have one pan, don't make that pan cast iron - it's good at what it does but it's not as versatile as a stainless steel pan for most things.

Yeah, I didn't want to write out an entire "so this is how my conversation went" at the start of the post because it's mostly boring, but apparently not doing so makes me sound fishy.

I just wanted to make sure I could approach this situation the best way if it ever comes up again. Thank you.

to the racism to a 33-year-old woman being called a "girl"

But you repeat yourself

"Politician does thing, maybe poorly" isn't the same as "This is an issue that socialism could fix" or even related to workers at all.

This doesn't belong here the same way "Lauren Boebert kicked out of Beetlejuice musical" doesn't belong here. "Political enemy of the left does bad thing" isn't even anti-Socialism, it just is.

The Volkswagen e-Golf was literally just an electric GTI hatchback but they discontinued it...

Ah, yes, I'm aware of Starfield, just not that there's someone named Sarah Morgan in it. I legitimately just picked a generic first and last name.

He's made them before, it's one of his earlier videos. He's specifically talked about how he doesn't use shoes because his feet are basically leather at this point and he has better grip with bare souls than anything he could make.

This sort of shit is literally what The Jungle is about, but instead of manufacturing reforms we got food reforms. As long as those fingers and toes don't end up in the food the main regulators don't care.

Okay, I don't want to be rude, and I am going to try to politely convey two things. Please don't take these the wrong way, as I appreciate the fact that this community exists.

  1. You are the primary contributor because you post many, many articles in the span of a few minutes every couple of days. I'm not saying I'm a major contributing member, but getting my feed spammed every couple mornings with posts about climate news (which I accept can be marginally related to socialism), "Biden Couldn't Care Less About Human Rights" (not really related to socialism, just another "Politician sucks" article, but sure, he's doing it because capitalism, so just barely getting over the hurdle), and "Why are people frightened that kids will learn abouy sex?" (Absolutely not related to socialism, just a social issue), let's just say it makes me feel like this community is a dumping ground for left-leaning gripes rather than an actual discussion of socialist action and values.

I will say that I appreciate the posts about the numerous strikes happening around the US and world, those are good posts for this community. However, posting them all at once isn't creating a healthy community, it's just making me go "Oh, Wednesday morning is it? How many posts today? 9?" If the posts were spread out in time, I wouldn't have the same reaction.

  1. "I made it and I'm in charge, no other opinions welcome" really is the weakest of arguments.

Theoretically, if you are "extra productive" at a specific thing, there is a position you can move into where you do less of the things you're less productive with and more of the thing you are productive with. And if you are "extra productive", that should mean less effort for you to put into it: your reward is now less effort at work for the same amount of time and production, and if the thing you're doing is more complex or dangerous, that slrt of position should be negotiated for better pay by the union.

Instead, the "extra productive" person gets exploited by the employer until they burn out or are Peter Principle'd.

I'm surprised it's both this early and this late. The fact that he came in second in Iowa and then dropped out before New Hampshire is baffling.

Yeah, it just replaces the cert files and reload/restarts nginx for me. I don't want it anywhere near my config files.

Correct spelling of a name is also very different than spelling of generic pronouns.

100% this. I literally support fixing software installations and random crashing/errors all day anyway, sometimes when I get home I want my stuff to just work. I bought a console so I don't have to worry about why my framerate's dropping in Elden Ring or whatnot, it'll be fine and for 600$ less than building an actual PC worth building, a console is a no brainer for me.

You're right, I tend to lurk and up vote when I feel it's appropriate. I'll try to do better at making my voice heard if you want to have more contributions and build an actual community.

I'm sorry that your posts in particular seem to irk me to the point at which I felt I had to speak up. I'll tailor my browsing so that they won't show up, but I'm not giving up on having the main anti-capitalist community on beehaw as part of my browsing.

Socialist critique of elected officials is absolutely relevant to a socialist community, as is a socialist view on sex ed and nudity; I really don't know what to say to someone who doesn't understand that.

When those topics actually engender discussions pertaining to socialism, sure. But based on the discussion under the article about sex ed, it's mostly just more of the same discussion I would find anywhere else on beehaw — I would think you would want a community slightly more focused. I can't speak to the discussion re: "Politician bad" because there wasn't one.

Holy crap this site is absolutely unbearable without an ad blocker.

Seriously though Mohdi, if you don't want people to be suspicious about you arresting your political opponents then you probably shouldn't make a fuss when people are concerned. "Normal criminal arrest here, nothing to see" is much less guilty than calling in a diplomat to yell "How dare you question me!" at them.
