I just want Microsoft gone.

give up gaming

What? Most games run better on Linux

There's a word for software that does actions without the user's permission or knowledge.

That word is MALWARE

The SMART thing to do is to buy a DUMB TV. Pay a little more and get a real TV- you know. A display, with speakers and HDMI inputs. Nothing else.

15 years ago HP was among the best in the business. They made workhorse products that did millions of pages (and those old models continue to)

Today HP is a malware and telemetry company who won't let the average consumer use their printer without a logged-in HP account slurping telemetry about every aspect of their lives. Any consumer who buys a printer with the letter "e" in the model number is paying money to be spied on. Anyone who buys a non-"e" model is still doing so, but in a less VISUALLY obvious, and obnoxious way.

This is not random assumption. I'm a tech. Anyone who buys an HP Printer today and asks me to install them gets a fast education on why they shouldn't cut the packing tape on that box.

Buy Brother.

Wait until millions realize they have Windows home and don't have group policy editor

Grew up with 2 passions- cars and computers. Wound up working at dealerships for 12 or so years.

One day I'd been with this dealer for about 4 years, I got passed over for a better position because "You're too good at what you do to move you out of it."

I'd been looking for an excuse to go back to computers, and that was it. Quit on the spot, took my tools home and started tech school.

Other way to read this headline:

36% of Americans are equal parts moronic and clinically insane

When using Microsoft products and accepting their incomprehensible terms and conditions, you have no say and your opinion doesn't matter.

Group policy doesn't matter, domain administrator, GPO rules, all of it- none of it matters.

You'll get dogshit and you will like it. (Friendly reminder that it was extremely overpriced also) That's the tax you pay for being in their horrible, horrible "ecosystem" from hell. Enjoy! Grease up or take it dry, you're "taking it" either way.

Perhaps I'm missing something but I've been a Firefox user for years- at work and home. I have yet to find a website that misbehaves or under-performs. Mayyybe a few sites here and there a fractions of a second slower or have slightly less acceleration or something that I'm just not noticing?

Without Firefox and its ??forks?? like LibreWolf, the internet would be a total Chromium monopoly at this point, wouldn't it? That would be bad..

But the scariest part of this story isn't the holes, it's the irresistible urge to go in..

REMEMBER: NO PRE-ORDERS. Safest bet is to wait a year after any Bethesda release to give modders enough time to fix the game.

Things wrong with Brave: #1- It isn't Firefox/a Firefox derivative

Yeah- your own wired cameras wired to your own ON PREMISES NVR. Anything type of wifi cameras handled by a web portal are completely un-securable and it's not a question of if the company shuts them down, but when.

I bought a Roku TV when I moved. Used it a few weeks and then realized the level of horrific tracking my pi-hole server was blocking from it. (thanks PiHole) I reset it to factory and no longer allowed it on the network. Now it's an acceptable TV with a completely dogshit useless remote.

Sort of related- is it even possible to buy a "dumb" TV anymore or are we stuck paying 8x as much for "digital signage" panels now?

Doesn't happen in other, unrelated fairy tales either.

Yeah it works- and has for quite a while. My SP3 ran Ubuntu fine back in the day, but it didn't save it from being an unservice-able piece of shit with failing hardware that overheated in 5 seconds flat.

I'm fine with it. Their competitors passed them by a few years ago anyway. The only thing the Intel branded stuff was better at now- was being more expensive.

I was today years old when I learned places like TheVerge are filled with idiots who keep work on USB media, keep no backups, and act like it's not their fault when something fails.

Fuck Reddit and all, but old.reddit.com if you MUST go there.

I for one celebrate the inevitable crash/death of all this social media. It's turned normal people into unacceptable drooling trash. That is if you're able to ignore the data collection and use of it, in which case it turned the whole internet into a dumpster fire as well.

Microsoft is using malware-like pop-ups in Windows 11 to get people to ditch Google for malicious google copycat Bing+Edge

Linus knows wtf he’s talking about

As a pedantic f*cking weirdo who goes WAY too deep into things until I'm satisfied that I understand them, he very much does not.

Death threats aren't a nice thing to do

But also lol

How many is a "batch" I wonder?

Horseshit. Don't piss on my head and tell me it's raining.

Edit: this is more horseshit like the "room temperature superconductor" that was instantly debunked as a horseshit scheme recently.

Sound pressure waves cannot distort spacetime

I shouldn't be this excited about the link, but double-checked the specs on their official site and it's not even equipped with ethernet/wifi- the world is so shitty these days that I almost squealed like a little girl. Thanks for sharing that.

Her entire "career" is based on attention-getting alone- she's never helped anything. That doesn't benefit her.

Pluralistic.net. Enjoy yourself. No bullshit whatsoever, just good reading. Might be the last bastion of goodness on the web.

My Roku TV's been reset to factory and not allowed on the internet for a few years now. It's a TV. It displays shit that I give it over HDMI. If you desire more than that you're part of the problem. I work in IT and that's why my home has physical locks, a 30 year old thermostat, and cameras I own with recordings on a DVR I own.

11 now basically ARP scans any network you join, adds things like HP printers found on the LAN to Device Manager, as"unknown device" in some situations, likely auto installing drivers in others.

Can't think of a better example of malware.

Stay in school and don't use Windows.

And the tech school I got a degree from now hosts courses on "Reiki healing" and "Crystal healing". America is fucking doomed.

Did you read the whole thing and you're just okay with them quietly pulling sponsored links for FTX?

I stopped over at my parents' house a few weeks back for a get-together and the TV was on. I nearly felt physically ill at the amount of ads- at one point I saw an overlay ad on top of an actual "commercial" ad. The program that was on was definitely less run time than the adverts that ran in-between short sections of the program.

Pretty @#%^ing ironic posting this shortly before the W11 23H2 build releases and literally un-does everything all over again.

The only answer is refusing to use Microsoft malware full stop.

I'm not even surprised any more. I take a bold guess at what absolutely hideous shit I'll read today and I'm still always surprised.

NVME screw: phases outside of our dimension before even reaching the floor

Also I really want to know why this can't be tapped for a standard case screw or even a chassis thumbscrew. Been pissing me off since msata and nvme even became a thing. Such great storage and it can't be mounted with a standard @!#%^ing screw that everything else uses WHY?
