Long-time offgridder here. Would love to have a reasonable alternative to lead-acid or lithium. Opted for lead-acid again on the last battery swap around 5 years ago. Squeezed about 12 years out of the last set -though they were pretty degraded by that time. This bank is depreciating faster, probably because of increased use.

One web LLM I was screwing around with had Job Interview as a preset. Ok. Played it totally straight the first time and had a totally positive outcome. Thought the interviewer way too agreeable. The next time I said the most inappropriate stuff I could imagine and still the interviewer agreed to come home with me to check out the rock collection I keep under my bed and listen to Captain Beefheart albums.

A shame to hear how far HP has fallen. Back in the day they had some solid, workhorse laser printers that delivered for years with no issues and pretty good toner efficiency. Based on what I've read here, I'm not likely to buy another.

Normally pretty much an anarchist in my policy predilections. But there are folks I went to school with that I wouldn't trust with a power drill, much less a rifle. Seems they're just the ones that make the biggest deal over having guns -and least likely to use them in any responsible way. The role these sorts of badass-looking firearms play now is to make powerless Americans feel like they have some agency. Likely dangerous when these misinformed, utterly propagandized serfs feel extra pressed and attribute their low quality of life to all the wrong reasons/people.

The goal is surely to capture every human need and package them as obnoxious subscriptions.

Heard someone assert that MBA's have ruined the world. Seemed a hyperbolic statement at the time. Though casting my eyes around an ever more enpoopified landscape, it's tough to disagree.

For the last time ..we aren't interested in browsing your collection of stolen pocket watches.

Maybe everyone should listen to the Jonestown tape at some point. It's truly horrible, but may provide some inoculation against demagoguery.

It's also sometimes used as shorthand for crypto-orchidism -undescended testicles.

Or you arrive to find the civilization has had time to collapse and given way to the rise of damned dirty apes.

Looks quite efficient. See also: rocket stoves, specifically the pocket rocket design. Though the ones with lots of thermal mass probably serve folks better while taking up more space. Various wood gasifier stoves are pretty neat. I've got a little one for camping.

In this instance, I'd predict the components of this stove will oxidize away quickly.

See also: survivorship bias.

You do have to admire that sort of commitment though.

Split-screen simultaneous brawling action.

Kentucky Route Zero came to me at a shaky time in my life. Such that it was full of impactful moments. Maybe made more so by myself living in the often grim, beautiful and haunted place that is east Kentucky -and of course late stage capitalism.

Orchids to Dusk is another that inspires awe. Though it is entirely about looking for a nice place to die.

A scale model of Devil's Tower, Wyoming. It would mean something.

My reaction on seeing this was to wonder about the Wendy's Nasty Patty (tm).

Steve Goodman and John Prine are said to have written the "perfect" country song. Incorporating as it does trucks, trains, the rain, mama, drinkin' and prison.

"Well, I was drunk the day my mama got out of prison And I went to pick her up in the rain But before I could get to the station in my pickup truck She got run over by a damned old train..."

Had a cat that dearly loved noodles. Would climb all over you for a strand of spaghetti.

H.G. Wells would like a word. The Morlocks have some recipes to share.

And I'm cracking up at the scammers phoning up my 85 year old father telling him his Windows has been compromised on his Linux desktop.

How many sets of footprints in the sand??

Yes! Those channel knobs were so easily broken. I thought we were the only ones turning channels with pair of vice-grips clamped on the nub.

Yeah. Feel this is a slippery slope. First it's supposedly luxury extras like heated seats and remote starts. Next something more critical when folks are habituated to the practice? Enpoopification all around.

Metalhead.

My first realization about this problem with reddit came about a decade ago when it became undeniable that shills flooded the discourse the moment Monsanto was mentioned.

Have heard folks unironically make this argument. "The insurance industry! Massive unemployment! My 401k is invested in them! I'll be ruined!".

Can anyone recommend a good alternative that works well under Linux and block ads and trackers well? In particular YouTube ads?

Clearly missing verses to Martha, My Dear.

Just assumed he was incognito at a "wizards only fools" sort of place.

When Vita-mixes are criminalized, only criminals will have Vita-mixes.

"We report. You decide.". But they say it disingenuously.

That sounds very cool. I'm totally ignorant of the hardware requirements. What sort of minimum setup would such an install take?

U.S. has the Dr. Bronner's soap label of currencies.

Surf's up, space ponies!

Torme is the Velvet Fog even!

Much the same for us. The toxic attitudes here in Appalachia are shocking. We've sure tried to give back and make ties, but authentic ones have been exceedingly rare. Something awful in the zeitgeist here now that makes it nigh impossible for folks to get along for the simplest tasks/clubs/gatherings.
