Anecdotally, so far I've noticed cars getting louder

If each chat connection gets a unique ID and zero info on my [pseudo]identity then that's great! Otherwise if this means they'll plug me into their social network to profile me that way - nah, thanks

Or abandon the min parking reqs so developers can build something else there. But also solar panels where we actually need parking space

I also don't trust them that they won't sell my data if I pay them

They should post a average price per user so we'll know what's the minimum to donate (probably 5$ which is the minimum in the app IIRC)

It'll probably take time though until it's available

Just like Apple gives you the optiom to disallow tracking but their definition of tracking leaves a lot of room for data to be collected and shared with 3rd party

I know a few large supermarkets in yhe us that have this that have disabled the weighing and improved over time. Also having one employee for 8 machines doesn't sound like a failure

+1 although trees can shade the ground around the building and cool the area that way too

Here's what the Kagi Universal Summarizer spat out (says it saved us 18min of reading):

TikTok has become hugely popular due to its effective use of machine learning algorithms to determine what content users want to see. However, some argue that the app is designed to be addictive by optimizing for short-form, easily digestible videos that require little mental effort. Regular use of TikTok may contribute to declining attention spans and "digital dementia" over time. Additionally, China sees Western social media as a way to accelerate the decline of liberal democracies by promoting individualism, distraction, and decay of societal values. While concerns over TikTok's addictive nature and China's influence are valid, banning the app would not address the underlying issues and parental guidance remains important.

Or in key moments mode:

  • TikTok's recommendation algorithm (the For You page) is very effective at figuring out what content will addict individual users and keeping them engaged with short-form, attention-grabbing videos.
  • Heavy TikTok usage may lead to "digital dementia" symptoms like loss of attention span, memory, and impulse control due to the passive, low-effort nature of consuming content on the app.
  • Chinese authorities like Wang Huning believe Western liberalism and capitalism inevitably lead to spiritual decay, nihilism, and civilizational collapse if left unchecked.
  • The Chinese government sees influencing Western youth culture through apps like TikTok as a potential way to accelerate this process of decline in the West.
  • Some theorists like Nick Land see Western capitalism itself as a kind of runaway "paperclip maximizer" that must be accelerated to transform the system rather than opposed directly.
  • Long-term overuse of addictive apps like TikTok that provide instant gratification could lower average IQ and harm a society's economic and technological competitiveness.
  • Regulating or banning TikTok may not solve the problem, as other short-form video apps will likely replace it to meet consumer demand for low-effort entertainment.
  • The solution involves raising public awareness of digital addiction risks and changing social norms to reduce heavy app and social media usage, especially for children.
  • Parental controls and moderation are also important short-term measures, but long-term the issue requires democratic solutions rather than authoritarian control.
  • The potential long-term societal impacts of platforms like TikTok make addressing addiction risks a timely issue rather than something to wait for more evidence on.

But even if I don't, others will infringe on my privacy if they wear those glasses in my vicinity

We need to do some reverse psychology to remedy this

I'd put the blame on the branding, full self drive shluld mean full self drive, not most-conditions self drive without explicitly providing the limitations. Even irplane autopilot systems, which solve a simpler problem, have explicit limitations stated

I think just like Proton provides free services for the greater good, Signal should do something similar. Even special emojis works well IMO. They give you a badge at least

Are there notes available to read?

Is there a more recent list?

Don't hate the player, the owner is the one to blame

They're also pretty much exclusively sell SUVs or heavier cars, these are intentionally pricier

Been using buckwheat pillows since I was a kid, they're awesome

Though none of these platforms have tried to make money yet

Isn't this one of the big factors why they are so shitty (excluding donations/non profit)?

Will other platforms accept these companies exploitation or want to have anything with them? I would guess they will rot/enshitify along with them if so

The last commit is from Jun 2022. I believe it's no longer under active development and instead a clone emerged and being actively developed under Breezy Weather (see other comment for a link)

It sounds to me like they're trying to go like Wechat did

Would be great for an apocalypse

I have high hopes that the donation % and amount of users will grow after the interoperability implementation

40 million active users, 50 million for 5 years. So I guess 1.25$ if everyone donates, or 5$ if just 25% do. I've done my part then

Loosen up a little

Are you saying that the GSM frequencies used in the US are not supported by Fairphone hw?

I know there are CDMA and GSM telkom companies but I assumed the re are plenty of common frequencies

The widgets weren't for me. I think there's also a matter of security where you'd want the app libs to be updated once in a while for patches.

Tldr: not saying don't use it, just adding something to consider

Likewise, something happened in the last 1-2m, couldn't find answers. But sometimes Google did.

After finding myself searching multiple times for one thing at DDG, decided to just go with Kagi.com

LineageOS, withoutgooglwe play services the drawbacks are some apps don't have a notification support (some have that live 24/7 notification to make it work, but most don't have that).

Picked LineageOS for the privacy features and how easy it is to run commands (I literally just had to copy and paste commands, one at a time, no hiccups)

But that's only by default though, no? It's not like it's worse, it sounds to me like a slightly better option to go with the default than stay in Chrome

How does that compare to uBlock Origin? I noticed it blocks redirects via creepy tracking intermediaries

+1

Also, I wish we'd have a kagi community for Lemmy

This

Like what for example?
