Biden is like Trump's kryptonite. Trump always tries to get in the other guys head.

Can't get in Biden's head...Bidens not in there, good luck dude

Yeah, what a horrible headline lol.

It's about Facebook allegedly stopping it's streaming service to keep one of its largest ad revenue customers happy (Netflix), but also that court docs were unsealed in an anti trust suit, and Facebook may have agreements with Spotify and Netflix, to allow them to read users DM's (no idea why that's relevant but yeah, fuck Facebook! Lol)

It's very speculative though and may not be true. Not that it'd surprise me if it were true either though..

🤷 Does anyone here even use Facebook?

Sometimes there's good discussion though, and it's good to hear different takes.

Having comments also gives less power to the writer, like could you imagine if we all took Fox News or CNN headlines at face value and didn't discuss them?

I've refused to buy these "flagship" phones that don't have a headphone jack. The 90s kid in me will live on, damnit!

Well yeah, as much as I dislike apple, the majority of Google's income comes from advertising - and to be the best at it, they need to have more personal data than everyone else, which = lots of tracking.

How do we open source hardware and make it competitive? If we figure that out, maybe we can break free of yet another 2 party system we're creating lol

For me it's that a lot of the open source options to replace the Adobe and MS Office suites just always fall short. Trouble shooting Linux issues feels like hell after a lifetime of learning how to troubleshoot Windows issues.

Adobe is the bane of my existence for many reasons, and I jump ship wherever I can. But GIMP doesn't really compare to Photoshop. Inkscape doesn't work well against illustrator - the only open source artistic creation software I swear by is blender. Davinci resolve isnt bad compared to premier pro though - but not After Effects.

MS office isn't great either (why does Ms word operate like it exists in a separate instance of reality that's forever stuck in the 90s?!)

Microsoft captured the corporate world and compatibility with the off brand stuff is a huge issue

That's exactly how I'd expect a government to use this. It's not a good path

Are they all bastards though?

You don't think there's any of them out there trying to actually help?

If you think it's all about getting power and bullying others, then I'd say you're showing us what human dynamics you think have the highest value. Like a form of projection.

There are genuine people that actually do want to help that work in these fields.

Would you want to keep showing up to the worst day of peoples lives and see how you can help? Like the constant shootings, stabbings, car crashes, or domestic violence for example.

If it was all about power, there's way more lucrative industries that require half the effort.

I have no idea what this dude's background is like specifically, maybe he is a bag of shit, but it's unfair to lump every individual person into black and white categories

I know you said don't even start, but I'm curious lol.

I've used blender a lot, I've never used 3DS Max though. What would you say are the biggest issues with Blender in your scenario?

It's not so much what their interpretation is of the specific article is, it's more that you might find more information from someone who has info that was left out, or maybe another source that has conflicting information.

Could you show us a few not so biased news sources? I suppose this will also vary wildly by topic. A news outlet might be narrative/propaganda driven on one topic, but not about another.

It's so much mess (through corporate ties or money) to sort through, it's hard to trust any of them anymore

Putting people into boxes doesn't really help anyone.

People are more nuanced than that.

I get the sense you're a bit biased here lol. If you think any of these politicians at the top give a shit about you, you're wrong.

Trump is just selfish (like most big politicians). You can't have no vision and a vision for how to destroy mankind at the same time.

It's a bit illogical to say you hate insurrectionists and people trying to alter society for their own benefit, and also say "id rather have Hitler as a president".

Do you see the irony here?

Yeah I have one set up - it's sorta meh.

Most ads from things you look at can be stopped by just an ad blocker plugin for the browser (uBlock Origin). The Pi can't stop ads when they come directly from the sever of the company you're viewing (like from YouTube or Facebook ads).

The Pi just has a library of known advertising domains and doesn't let those past the router, but because the major corps like YouTube don't use 3rd party domains, the Pi won't stop it.

For the TV scenario here id recommend just installing a new Linux based OS on it as this would be just as good as the streaming device, but free.

It's also enabled everyone to see cultures and ways of life they would never be able to before. People can share their differences and traditions more openly too. Knowing more about cultures, practices and different people is what opens doors to not being racist

Racism isn't an implicit call to violence. Violence is one of the ways it can manifest if it's deranged enough, but most racism is just sorta quiet and often unconscious.

It's not a good idea for the government tell you what you're allowed to say - that change has to come naturally from the bottom up, not artificially from the top down

https://vancouversun.com/opinion/columnists/douglas-todd-canadians-adopting-assisted-death-22-times-more-than-americans

"In Canada, which has a smaller population than California, physicians or nurse practitioners directly ended the lives of 31,664 people between 2016 and 2021. That compares to just 3,344 in California."

This is an opinion piece article and I'm not sure where they're pulling numbers (I only had time to skim through it)

But if true, let's add a loose and relatively subjective term like "addiction" to the legislation and these numbers will go up.

Maybe this is how the government was planning to tackle the housing problem lol

You're forgetting that we have technology that connects most of the world now, even across languages. This definitely changes things.

But it sounds like you'd prefer to live under a government like the CCP. That way you don't have to worry anymore because they'll take care of everything for you

10,000 x 2 large rounds, and ~2,000,000 small arms rounds.

Not 2000.

But don't worry, I'm sure they'll send even more to keep the war machine going

Why do you trust powerful governments so much?

Where's our different radios and other things? They just keep adding more camera lenses, and MORE MEGAPIXELS.

Nothing innovative or useful, and now we're forced to buy more shit (adapters) to make other things we already have, work with our phones.

I'll stick with my "mid grade" phone that does all of the same things, but also connects to 3.5mm

PS. This mid grade phone also has USB C if I really wanted a custom DAC, and alternatively I can also charge and listen to things at the same time, with no extra cost

Tabloids are the OG click baiters

You're asking me to predict the future, maybe it doesn't happen. Maybe 1 lifetime? Maybe 2?

Who knows, but all we can do in the meantime is continue to actually talk with people caught in the storm.

If the government tries to force speech, what do you think that will do? Do you think everyone will say "oh ok", and just quietly live out their lives at home in resentment or in prison for this never to return?

It's a bandaid to a problem where we're just supposed to trust that governments will always use this power correctly

That's fair, and I'm glad you're in a part of the world that allows you to express yourself freely.

If being on the stage, dressing different, or playing the drums is something you want to go at, I'd say do it. You won't know it until you're in it. There will be some aspects you like, and some you won't. What you perceive and what actually is, are often different.

I've always found that the things I excel at, are the things I'm genuinely interested in. And when I follow those paths for a while, they all have similar lessons. It's like an all rivers lead to the ocean kinda thing.

Counter intuitively though, I also feel more liberated when I'm disciplined about getting little goals done on those paths. When I follow my exact, in the moment emotions, it usually leads me to addiction and forms of laziness. Just gotta push through the bullshit for a bit lol. "Beauty stems from pain" sort of fits with what I'm saying here. Might not be the same for everyone though, but for the past few years I've been excited to get out of bed lol.

Anyways, listen to your heart and you'll feel full. Good luck!

If energy becomes cheap, they lose money. If the stock market doesn't see their profits rise every quarter, they will trade for less.

These major corps think of societal impact only in the monetary/cash flow sense and lobby heavily to support their position.

We'd need to adjust some rules, and educate more people on nuclear power

Even the hygiene example can be nuanced.

Is it that they don't trim their toe nails often, but shower daily?

Is it that their nose hairs are long, but their hair on top of their head is well kept?

Where does this black and white line get drawn?

Everyone from different cultures (micro and macro) will have different answers.

We can all be stuffed into boxes for one thing or another. But I don't think it's so black and white.

Fair enough, I see where you're coming from. Id suggest though, that selfishness and greed are easy to predict - moreso than radicals whose country was backed into a corner of starvation and depression by the rest of the world.

This is so pedantic it hurts. I don't know how to dumb this down any further. You win, racism will never end and let's just put everyone in jail. Enjoy!

I appreciate your awareness of the bias in media groups - sincerely.

I'll have to give the new legislation a read to see how loose it is before forming hard opinions on it, but I just wanted to highlight where a large cause for concern should be for topics like this.

Great response, and I see your point.

I agree that books shouldn't be banned, but also probably not all books belong in schools, but should still be purchasable (which I believe is the case you're referring to in Florida)

I don't agree with the coercion and censorship that took place during covid, which is why I would lean away from being left. That being said, women (and everyone else) should have full autonomy of their bodies, which is why I would lean away from being on the right.

Nuance can also be something that brings us together, because I think most of us do have some common ground somewhere.

As long as it has a headphone jack...

Ohhh I gotcha, I stand corrected - especially because I'm not willing to look for the tweet myself lol

I thought the same but I looked again and it's in there lol, about 9th or 10th paragraph from the bottom of the article (before the "more shit you might like" section).

It doesn't even seem like it was even taken out of context from the article lol.
