Some (probably most) domain registrars allow to use different nameservers. So for example i use namecheap, since its cheap as domain registrar but cloudflare for DNS, since the API is free and widly supported.

AI could also research past time and temperature data to add this information to historic photographs that already have time and GPS location embedded.

Not quite sure why you would use ai for it?! When you have the coordinates and the time.

I am not aware of a phone that has an outdoor temperature sensor. And weather forecasts are not exact enough for this kind of application (fast altitude change)

No you are mistaken with "Or $5 mire to own it". You own a license to watch for the amount of time the platforms decides to keep it up.

The 3B+ was probably the high of the raspberry pi. It is still pretty much unrivaled in terms of idle power consumption and energy efficiency (or at least i have not seen any other SBC that got below 0.5 Watts on idle) on the consumer market.

But i have trouble investing further into them.

  1. They do not post any update guides for newer Debian releases and basically only support new deployments.
  2. It looks like they are abandoning their older products. vcgencmd for example is still broken on the 3B+. Since they "fixed" it for the 4B. See https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware/issues/1224

The simple point is, no one forces you to use wires. Bluetooth has been a thing for decades.

But basically every (yes some exceptions) company that makes phones forced you to use wireless ones.

And in the case of Fairphone it is just simply hypocritical.

The great thing about manjaro is, that when it finally bricks itself you can install a proper distro on it. https://github.com/arindas/manjarno

I really doubt that they are that stupid. My guess is that they are hoping to hinder the development of the project for a bit to delay the switch 2 implementation in yuzu or a future switch 2 focused fork.

Also, all the ppl that were directly associated with the group are no longer legally allowed (or at least would risk a lawsuit against them) to contribute. So a lot of expertise got lost.

Just because an app is old, does not mean that it is not usable or bad. Let's look at games for example.

A 'old school' forum would be actually way better. Why? It is searchable with external tools, can be found with search engines and can be easily preserved and archived by orgs like archive.org

That would depend on the context. How the logo looks like does not matter most of the time, only when the logo itself is the topic.

There is no actual information on how self sufficient the car actually is. There is only 1 number which states how long the car drives on a sunny day with solar+battery combined.

The car probably needs to charge for days via the solar panels in order to fill up the battery.

Git is already federated.

New to me. Do you mean decentralized instead of federated?

6 more...

Basically everything useful uses ffmpeg under the hood. So bash+ffmpeg is just fine. But tdarr exists too

I would not say that distributed is federated. But i could not find a widely accepted definition of it.

For example i would call FTP also not federated🤷‍♂️

Hardware is not even the biggest issue imho. Software/firmware is even much worse. How is it possible to sell a phone that does not even get updates for 5 years. And why is Fairphone, Google Pixel and iPhone standing out with only 5 ish years.

Luckily the EU is currently working on that.

Disclaimer ⚠️ The project is under very active development. ⚠️ Expect bugs and breaking changes. ⚠️ Do not use the app as the only way to store your photos and videos. ⚠️ Always follow 3-2-1 backup plan for your precious photos and videos!

Yes project does not follow semantic versioning. But you can consider it it the 0.y.z state where it is even in the semantic versioning allowed to have breaking changes without major version increase.

Passkeys are not passwords. When you authenticate using passkeys you will proof that you have the secret (passkey), but you will never reveal that secret to the service you are authentication against.

So even if someone is able to steal that package containing the answer, that answer will not be valid a second time.

Not sponsored, I just genuinely like the product. Adguard doesn't require manifests because it works outside the browser.

But trivial to circumvent. Just change the origin url from (for example) 'ads.google.com' to 'google.com' and you no longer can block ads based on DNS blocking.

While it is now not a hugh thread it will eventually happen when they manage to eradicate adblockers in the browser.

Took them long enough. Most Linux distros have a simple toggle for Disk encryption for years. And as far as i am aware Apple has it too. And basically every mobile OS is encrypted by default as well. iOS and Android

Manjaro: Reliable and Cutting-Edge Features

Rarly laughed that hard. Reliably is by defenition wrong. Manjaro delays packages a few days in their main compared to Arch this can cause issues and makes them not compatible with the AUR which one of the most advertised and enabled by default feature.

You can read more about other problems here, https://github.com/kruug/manjarno

USB flash drives usually use the worst flash memory available. There are good ones but they are hard to find and expensive. Going for a NVMe SSD in an USB-C enclosure gets you way more reliably better speeds and durability.

They are no longer allowed to block servers based on IP addresses. (1 server with 1 IP address can host countless domains)

But domain based blocking (likepiratedmovieas.com) is still allowed.

That is just wrong. For example, increased movement speed. Just check every couple of seconds if the movement that the player actually did is possible with the allowed parameters. Yes there can be bugs in that too, but not trivial to bypass when you validate every packages.

It is resource intensive. But much more effective for things like movement then client side.

I self host because i do not trust companies. I will not even consider giving tailscale the keys to my kingdom.

The company Tailscale is a giant target and has a much higher risk in getting compromised than my VPN or even accessible services.

Every. Single. Serverside anticheat ever implemented has been defeated with absolute ease.

Even if true (it is not) this does not proof anything other the that to less resources are invested in it. Client side Anti Cheat is cheaper because you just simply buy that product and yiu have not fix your broken game code which bately runs smooth anyway.

Client side Anti Cheat goes against basic IT-Security principles. Every single packet that is sent from the Client to the Server is User Input. It is not to be trusted. You have to validate it.

When you login to your Online account the check if your password is correct does not happen on your Computer. It gets sent to the server and the server validates it.
