Ads and tracking ? Browser with the largest market share ? Well, we are back to IE6 monopoly. :(

There is some drawback. The main one : app can't communicate with each other.

Example firefox and his extension keepass. As keepass can't communicate with firefox, you have to open both apps and switch their windows.

You can use flatseal to manage communication between apps but that's not an easy process and may prove a security issue if you don't understand the technical jargon.

An immutable OS that run all app whatever are their package distribution.

Later a full OS rewritten in Rust with goods tools that share folder's content accross all devices and mass storage device as syncthing do.

Let's imagine a button where you click on add devices, then you scan the QR code and chose which folder you want to share. :)

I'm profound deaf. I sign, write and speak. :)

Well, sign language aren't superior. Having both : subtitles (hard hearing people) and sign language (deaf people) is better. I prefer subtitle because it is closer to the speech and i'm not fond of sign video. Often the sign interpreter is small and sign very quickly.

In general, i prefer text, it help me focusing on the content instead of the person and use less bandwidth...

Sign language still lacks lot vocabulary. It's a young language «created» in the 18s when Abée de l'Épée founded the first deaf school. And i had to create lot technical signs with sign language interpreters during my agricultural course. Furthermore, they don't have an official sign writing yet, and it is a problem for keeping human knowledge and culture outside video and technological device. So there is still lot things to do and improve.

In France, lot deaf people aren't fluent with French writing due to the lack of bilingual school (French writing and French sign language) and interpreters (eg : only 200 hours in sign language for 1 year in universities).

So, having sign language improves a lot the accessibility for deaf people as they are not fluent with writing language. For me, i prefer both. Both are good and it meet each people need. :)

Hmmm, quite hard to choose. I would say an anticapitalist game. Most of game focus on growing, gaining power and i never saw an game that has horizontal power hard coded to its bone.

For example : city skyline unlock new building based on population threesold. The city development is geared toward growing, expanding and creating new job. That's bad. We can't live in this kind of world anymore and yet we fail to imagime something different.

Can't we imagine a new economical system and set up new variable ? Or a game that go beyond the scope of heroes's story ? Why should we be special ?

The best part is that you can help your friends. :3

Unpopular opinion :

  • Arch, i installed it long ago so i can't remember anything except that i spent lot hours for its installation.
  • Reason : spend a lot time reading the wiki without an easy installer...even Ubuntu was better but i wanted a challenge and a better uderstanding on linux.
  • Some AUR package didn't work.
  • Why Arch ? To get the lastest os and package as i had a recent gaming laptop.

So I changed and prefered manjaro with its ui for linux os, graphic card...but some thing were broken...than i settled Pop-Os for 3 years and distrohopped again for immutable os : Vanilla OS and Fedora Kinoite. :)

Another distro :

  • Ubuntu
  • reason : snap and various decisions.

I didn't expect it to reach this level...it doesn't feel appealing.

Do they have some AI chatting in comment ? :)

i think humanoid robot are inefficient. We shouldn't follow the blueprint of human body but give them legs and arms that are suited for mechanical move and metal structure so they are easier to maitain and repair.

The point of flag is, that they are (usually) easier coordinate, draw and restore.

I suppose they will alway start with the flag because it is our culture but also define a drawing zone.

I disagree with any form of vadalism, but you may invit them drawing their monument :)

Thank for the information. i didn't know since i use vanilla os :)

Yeah i discovered that and i was extremely furious. I bought a usbc cable around 10€ and it wasn't working because the device only supported a certain type of usbc. Apparently, there is some info about information in the eu website.

But i'm not able to understand any technical part...i just want a color : yellow charger/cable go with yellow port. Etc.

No, we shoudn't. Framasoft, the french libre software NGO published an interesting article about mastodon and twitter (in french). To sum up, the article tells us we shouldn't follow twitter footstep (it was before Elon Musk became the CEO) but embrace the fediverse.

So, imho, after reading their post, it is clear that we are just copy-pasting some proprietary software and it's a mistake because we may integrated some problematic design that were intended for analysis and ads purpose. And those proprietary software were a golden cage.

The fediverse is not lemmy, it's not mastodon. And the timeline is limited by its UI design to lemmyverse or mastodonverse. It shouldn't. We should open them more while having good moderating tool.

But firstly, Lemmy should improve their moderating tool. As a moderator in jlai.lu, and because our admin explained us various issues : the current state of Lemmy is worrying.

So until those matter aren't solved, i don't want to see any community's grow bigger nor openness to the fediverse because we aren't ready and can't protect other communities in the fediverse.

No. You might want to move in a country where we don't tip ? 😅

There is also nextcloud deck. It's minimal but enough. Kanboard is also an alternative and there is another one but i forgot its name.

Well, that depend a lot on how do you setup security.

On nextcloud, i can see which device are connected to it, who, when, where and i get alert mail. When you add a new devices, as it is in the settings you will need your password. You might want to extend this security to usb storage with an isolated environnement. So all you need is a dashboard.

The solution i suggest is also a security in case of hardware faillure. How many people do a backup and copy their important file regulary ? I think i'm just making their life easier by hardcoding it. For me it's as brushing my tooth, it's not mandatory, but it's better to make it mandatory.

My vision of the future is having an os that’ll install itself on any device I own whether the manufacturers want me to or not. I want to own the things I own.

Same but i differ. I don't want any kind of device to exist to reduce our footprint's carbon. Eg :

I would limit phones to 3 models and remove all brand. No ads needed, nor announcement. Something low tech. There would be lot benefit on the software side and repairability. It's easier to maitain and it leaves our hand free to improve the OS

Well, i find your post very aggressive...

i didn't miss your point and wanted to put another point of view on how usefull flag are on a collaborative and competitive space.

We got our 4 small flag erased because we were french.

I noticed people start drawing flag, then draw something. Why ? Because it is visual. You are simply telling them : "We are this community, and here is our drawing area."

And yes there is conflit due to the lack of space and human ressource.

It doesn't dimiss you point, that's just another point of view. You are right too.

So from your stance we should erase the major flag : trans flag, germany and rainbow in the same way as Void that erased other people work ? What do you think it will happen ? What do you expect from attacking them ? A pixel war ?

Will they understand your point ?

That's not fun. You can create a group, that's a good idea. when the canva will start, go to their matrix room and suggest some drawing. But don't attack them.

Because if you attack them :

  • people won't be creative and try to protect their flag. You won't get any creativity except revenge : they stop drawing and fiqht you back. Unless you suggest them some drawing.
  • you may get a ban once notified
  • your fediverse id may be shared among other admins instance and get banned.

Steamdeck will be a good replacement for a gaming laptop and less expensive. Mine is 1 year old. Almost every games work well on Linux thank to Valve and Wine, i don't see any problems with your games. And you can emulate old game on Linux but i never tried it.

There is some issue :

  • you can't play Kenshi, City Skyline. You will need a dock, keyboard and maybe a bigger screen.
  • Some game use a launcher that will block ya from playing it. Hence why some player decide to install Windows. (Blame the editor, not Valve)
  • The Steamdeck handle well AAA title but it will drain its battery quickly. Elden ring can last 2h i think.

And imho, you should never install Windows. Why ? To increase Linux market share. So game editor will work on their launcher and make them compatible with Linux. And there is plenty gaming console on Windows, lot PC on windows. Windows's gamers have plenty options (ROG). So just for this one, we should accept the Steamdeck as a Linux gaming machine, for once.

Yes and i didn't reinvent the whell. However, I still remind people to do backup accross those devices. It's not news but it's not well applied by lot people, so i would hardcode it into the OS.

  • Do you have a phone ?

  • Please scan qr code

  • Choose folders

  • Do you have a mass storage device ?

  • Connect it

  • Chose folders

  • Warning : you haven't setup any backup

  • Warning : your last backup was last week. please connect your mass storage device to save your backup.

So, for something new, i would like to improve those utilities/tools and expand their use.

Well, i got some feedback, most creative people don't find gimp good, they won't switch.

Well dunno if it's because gimp lacks good tool that ease up their workflow or because we teached them adobe suite.

During my art course it was : adobe suite and autocad with 3d max.

But i knew blender, gimp and scribus way before entering art school because i disagree with adobe's licensing system and found it very expensive.

Imho, the current best creative software on linux is Blender. There is also Darktable and Rawtepee for light, contrast.

For inkscape, krita, i can't compare, i never used adobe illustrator, nor corel drawer.

Scribus is good, almost perfect but it lacks a very important feature that i can't replicate. Adobe Indesign is far more easier because of the guideline that tell ya this item is correctly aligned and has the same size.

Kdenlive, well featured but i find adding video effect easier on adobe premiere pro. And kdenlive had a lot stability issue, i lost my work several time and that's how i learned to setup automated save.

Autocad easily outmatched freecad, there were a huge difference in functionnalities. I don't know if it has changed since 10 years. It probably improved a lot.

I apologize for my english grammar.

True. I think Lemmy can greatly benefit from it and take some inspirations from Sublinks. For now there is a lack of developpers that know rust even tough this programming language is trending.

It would ease up their work and improve their communication. :)

I apologize, i tought the post was published on one of the french lemmy's intance jlai.lu. That's strange because i'm not subcribed to this community...Well, i just replied without checking first.

I wondered who was the president during Rwanda's genocide in 1994. And it was Mitterand, a socialist. (Which surprise me a lot, usually right president are the worst). During my childhood there weren't any history lesson on Rwanda yet.

According to the newpapers Le Point, Mitterand knews along few people and continued taking bad decision altough some people warned him about the Rwanda current regime and risk.

With your great suggestion, i got an idea for lemmy software : why not activate vote only to subscribed community ? You haven't subscribed, you can't vote. But you can hide /filter the community.

The frontpage also need a rework because when you cross-post it flood thus people tend to downvote those posts. And lot other things.

I use iceshrimp. I think lemmy is missing a lot from hashtag.

As i see :

Lemmy is not part of the fediverse but a lemmyverse. It lacks connection with other software and other software lacks connection to lemmy. I think we need to build a bridge between microblog and forum.

In the french fediverse community, our main base of users come from mastodon. And i would like to reach them.

I saw, in activitypub the ability to share and post whatever is your software. A complete freedom where you just need one account.

There is differents purpose, but i do think offering people both is good : microblog and forum. And i think the fediverse will slowly move toward that. With a UI for individual and other for community.

And hashtags do both :

  • It allows post to be discoverable by other apps in the fediverse.
  • It allows people to search and find any post of comment on a related topic.

So, i think piefed will grow a lot.

Dark Soul serie. After dying for the nth time i gave up. I don't have enough time to red again and again the same path.

Getting over it, well it do save your progression, especially your mistake.

Subnautica and amesia. I fear void place and it's too scary.

As a minetest player, the main menu screen work very well and only lack some option to filter servers by game and language.

So i understand if they prefer to focus on other issues.

Ya true quite cool :) that's a shame that you get some bad voting for suggesting that :/

Well, thank for this enlightement. Guess if i haven't stumbled on this post, i would never knew from other people's perspective.

Well, I often use this apology : "I'm sorry you fell that way..." to acknowledge that people don't have the same kind of sensibility. Some things hurt me but won't and will never hurt you and vice-versa. And that's normal.

I do it as i think it's the norm while feeling sorry. I don't know how they interact, i mostly copy-pasta while i'm doing my best to repair my mistake and improve things.

So, the sentence wasn't about myself but the inherently human's feeling and interaction.

Dunno, probably a new standard. Or a standarised battery ? I'm mot an expert in this area.

I think thats a good opportunity to slow technology and focus on our earth ressource management and waste. We can wait 20 years before buying new machine and set up new standard ? Then every producers test and create new prototype in their lab along technological foundation to help with their research ?

And its perfect :D

Ahah yeah but completely integrated in the OS so we do need to remind people to save their important data in 3 differents supports. I'm pretty sure people don't do thoses saves. Except techies and people who learned it the hard way.

And a better UI where you can setup the folder space as a disk manager. eg : don't save video on my phone. Limit the folder to 1gb on phone. And on external mass storage, share everything : 1tb

I think there is lot potential and that Syncthing should be integrated in the GNU/Linux's core.
