“To the moon” Nice little point and click adventure. I played it through one afternoon and was sad for the following two days.

I don’t get the comparison.

It is true that it is often cheaper to buy a commercial solution + support in a company, instead of using open source and employing a fleet of admins to support it.

But that sure is not implied in the post.

It started with a truck loaded with wrongly labelled veal. (Let’s write the light novel now! Reply to this comment with the next sentence!)

I thought the picture showed a graph 📈 indicating how it is rising over time.

If you write someone an email and include your phone number then it is completely okay for them to call you back.

I don’t get the gender conversation. Before you discuss, define what gender means. After you defined it, it should be clear how many types there are or can exist.

If you can’t decide on one definition, then make up several. „Genders A“, „Genders B“, …

It should be very simple.

You most likely did not officially consent to the changes and have a prolonged right to terminate the contract without the need of upholding the contract duration.

It’s probably mich cheaper just to deal with the few that complain rather than sending out hundreds of thousands of paper letters or having them confirm the changes electronically and terminating the contracts of those who did not accept.

The article states that any gain in substantial ground for Russia would be deemed a victory.

If these are the victory conditions, then Russia is really close to victory. They just have to negotiate a cease fire and uphold it, until the borders become normality and a peace treaty is signed with them.

It is really just a definition of what it means to win and loose.

Donald Duck

If it were such a wide spread issue, then science would not achieve the results it does. It lives from people checking other people’s work and arguing about the results.

Why the twist into xenophobia in the end? The comment could have been 100% on point. Now it’s like Hitler being vegan - nice, but overshadowed by other stuff.

My health insurance costs 842€ a month. I pay half of it, the other half my employer. So I am quite impressed with the $20 from the estimation.

But why do two jobs? Won’t people do a better job concentrating on one thing and getting $2000 for that, instead of gaining experience in two different areas at the same time?

I cannot relate to that. I am 37 years old and I think I have never witnessed violent crime, except in television or on playgrounds (children are assholes to each other!)

Maybe it’s the creators that delete your comments as well. Doesn’t have to be only YT.

I have never encountered this product. Can you give a brand/product name example?

I think I read all the good isekai already. Putting anything on my to-read list where people get to other worlds or are levelling.

Sorry for the disappointment 😅

I would look at it from a different angle. Before the internet you had to have a lot of knowledge in different areas to be able to sound and behave smart, and also to make good choices.

Now you have knowledge readily available everywhere and there is much less incentive to learn things you don’t currently need, just to have it available in case you talk to someone about this topic.

This has become even more evident with AI, where you don’t have to skim through a lot of context to find your information, you just ask what you need and it is presented the way you need it right away.

They’re rapists and criminals! Well, some of them are good people..

Talking to a kid about the deep terrible natures of mankind, gruesome accidents and gory slaughterings is something I would like to postpone as far as possible.

If it changes by culture, then each culture will have their own definition. So if we ask a Texan Redneck and a Swedish Librarian, we will get two very different answers. But they both might be right in their culture.

Culture does not have borders. You and your neighbour have different cultures. So I believe this is nothing you can argue about, unless you specify a definition first. It does not have to be a global definition, it does not have to apply to all people, it doesn’t even have to make sense.

The definition will make it possible to discuss the topic. When the definition is precise, it will be a very short discussion. The interesting part is coming up with that definition and figuring out what aspects you want to include and what you deem not relevant.

Here, they are less afraid because almost no household is armed. It is a dangerous situation to enter a home, but they always come in pairs and might do so with guns drawn.

But we are talking about very extreme cases. German police shot 14 people in 2017, 11 in 2018, and 15 in 2019. So about the same amount of people that die from lightning strikes. The vast majority of policemen do not discharge their gun in their whole line of duty.

If you compare likelihood of violent crime the bigger danger comes from people inside your house, rather than burglary. Therefore, weapons in houses would make life more dangerous here, since you are less likely to escape your step mother armed with a gun, than your step mother armed with a kitchen knife.

I can’t read the article. Need to set up a subscription.

But the title does not sound promising. To be a victor, you first have to define what your victory conditions are. Depending on those, Putin might be right before victory, or light years away.

Do backups. Don’t forget to test if recovery works as expected.

The internet has 7 years to clean itself up for my oldest to become 12. Do China and North Korea have this problem? They have other shit going on, but did they at least solve this shit?

I am in servicenow. The bigger aspect of the job is talking to people to figure out what they actually want and design the implementation with all the best practices in this overly complex environment. The technical implementation that follows is a nice change of pace. I like the mix in both, talking and configuring. (You can’t really call it developing, the dev aspect is rather small)

I fully work from home, travel to the office four times a year for the team events.

This is a tragedy for all Texans! Next, they will ban all medical examinations during pregnancies, so something like this will never happen again!

That’s war. You have a victory target and try to achieve that. We do not know the victory target of Russia (we only know the propaganda they are spreading publicly).

The victory target may also change over time with what is realistically achievable.

So it is difficult to speak of winning or loosing without that information.

In a sports game, the teams agreed on the terms before the game started.

When the ones rule that can instill the most fear, the outlook is grim 🫣

PS: I don’t know your step mother. Maybe she is a world class samurai swordswoman. I apologise if my analogy insulted her.

We tend to complain a lot about them. But compared to the US (and I don’t know any other system than US and Germany) it’s far better.

If you don’t take any loans your score gets better and better. If you take out a big loan it is at first negative, but after paying it off it may be even positive.

My mother never took out a load in her life and has almost a perfect score.

In the US you get rewarded for making credit card dept and paying off interest. That is actually a stupid way to handle money. In Germany you get rewarded if you save first and then spend your money.

The problems lie in the details. If you move to a poor neighbourhood your score drops. That is utterly stupid!

It’s pretty incredible what we know about history, just from guessing by what we find and second guessing the first guess with more findings.

Or how we know pretty much all steps how the language evolved from Latin, thousands of years ago, to Italian, which is spoken today.

What I despise is when things are quite clear and politics just act like we would not know. Like how „brain drain“ is still a valid talking point while science already knows it’s false.

Yeah, that’s certainly true.

So.. you have the full game encoded in an NFT? That sounds like a shit ton of overhead.

I also like to give AI my code and just ask to rewrite it, implementing a cleaner solution and upholding best practices. Most times, there are things that are really an improvement!

This printer was paid for by my employer in 2017. I would have never spent 250€ on a printer. And I often did not use it because it had run out of ink and I was too lazy or occupied to take the 5 minutes to order it. So now this is taken care of.

It is also the best printer I have ever had and the longest living. But it is also the first one that cost more than 50€ so the reason might lie there.
