To elaborate further on grand strategy games, pretty much all Paradox games can be played.. sort of cooperatively?

Generally the maps are large enough that you can kind of just pick your corners and only rarely interact.

In a single game of Europa Universalis 4 one player might conquer all of Asia, while another consolidates Europe and a third player is in Africa. You can't generally actually disable PvP, you can just not go to war. Same is true for Crusader Kings 2/3, and Stellaris. You can coexist and mutually stay out of each others way while possibly helping each other out.

All the Total War titles that support multiplayer (so everything past Shogun 2 in 2011) are coop friendly afaik. I'm particularly fond of the Total War: Warhammer games.

Also, I'd add some of the survival crafting/sandbox titles to the list of stuff you can play cooperatively. They don't all work for it, but some of them are definitely friendly to a coop group play style. 7 Days To Die works brilliantly like that, though it will be absolutely trivial with multiple players unless you turn the difficulty up. Ark: Survival Evolved can be pretty fun coop (especially with the Primal Fear mod- you will need friends.)

I've never seen some specify that they want different second person pronouns, but hey new things every day. Man that is confusing to read, though.

OP seems to want a very competitively focused tightly balanced experience, and Stellaris is absolutely anything but that. I enjoy the game, it's fun, but I can't imagine anyone considering it to be particularly balanced or enjoyable as a PvP/Versus experience.

I've sort of generally moved over to coop games in general nowadays.

Or even if I'm playing something that's a versus sort of multiplayer- like Civ- I just try not to focus too much on winning. I'm there for the journey, not the destination. If I end up winning, cool. If I don't, that's also cool as long as I had fun along the way.

it can be used separate from a “flame”, which is a term for the very flamboyant gay men regardless of their presentation or physical appearance.

TIL. I've heard people being called, usually in a derogatory way, "flamers" or "flaming" but never just "flame", nor did I understand the context.

The ones that would travel for shows carried all the news and culture with them, like fabulous bards.

So just your average bard, then?

I greatly appreciate your old man mode. Sounds like a fantastic job.

It's been in development hell for like 11 years so people had low expectations, and it ended up being reasonably accurate.

It's just Black Flag, except notably worse and multiplayer. It was also on the expensive side @ $70, and someone at Ubisoft defended the price increase by calling it "the worlds first AAAA game." which was just stupid.

As someone that very much does not enjoy Sea Of Thieves I was kinda hoping it would scratch my pirate game itch, but nah I'll just replay Black Flag lol.

That's irrelevant. You can't patent fantasy creatures. That's a copyright issue. If they were suing for copyright infringement I might think they had a point, but they're not.

The civilised side and the vinegar people

I love how clearly this second sentence displays which of the two sides you are.

Arkane's immersive sims are fantastic. Dishonored 1 and 2 and Prey (2017). Brilliant worldbuilding and interesting stories that you can interact with. I don't think either is particularly stat heavy or grindy, but I have an extremely high tolerance for that sort of thing so maybe my perspective is skewed.

Is it out now? Are you sure lol

There's so much potential for a Halo game that isn't just a shooter.

I think a survival horror game based around the Flood would be amazing- something Dead Space-y but Halo. That would be incredibly difficult to make, and it's never going to happen, but it would be cool.

I'm really very much not a City builder guy so grain of salt here: I really enjoyed Banished.

I dislike the scale of other games- in stuff like Cities Skylines I tend to get overwhelmed by how much is going on and everything I need to make work together. So I guess it makes sense that I prefer a village builder over a city builder lol

Like the other guy said, it's street view. So the number of images isn't quite infinite, but it's high enough that just memorizing the images isn't realistic.

Because of that, though, road patterns are a solid chunk of what the really good players are looking for/at. There's definitely more to it than that, but because of the nature of the game there's almost literally always a road in view.

That's some 40k shit.

"What does it mean?" "I do not know, but it appeases the machine spirit. Quickly, recite the canticles."

Starfield was extremely hyped and extremely mid imo so I'm surprised it got the nomination that it did. If Starfield wins 'Best RPG' when Baldur's Gate 3 is an option I will be incredibly disappointed. Hell, I'd take Lies Of P over Starfield. Might as well fuckin nominate Skyrim again.

Bro what

So many gun laws are just fucking stupid. Tons of stuff is banned because it looks scary.

SBRs being illegal is pretty dumb.

It's 100% not about crowdsourcing. Idk how that even makes sense- do you know what Geoguessr is?

There's some people that are absolutely cracked at geoguessr. Rainbolt, for example.

Yes! With 1000hrs in Terraria, I agree. Terraria is a must-try. It might not click with you, but if it does...

As for SDV- I'd like to add that I very specifically do not like multiplayer. A large part of the fun of it, to me, is being able to play at my own pace. Having to set that pace with someone else isn't enjoyable to me. Not that there's anything wrong with enjoying multiplayer, I just don't want anyone to think that there's a 'proper' way to play the game. There's not- you do you. The only exception is choosing jojamart. That is objectively wrong.

Dishonored is 2012. I've got absolutely nothing.

Honestly I think Prey fits the request closer than Dishonored but that was released in 2017 so it's waaaay outta scope.

I think nothing inside a full priced video game should cost real money.

There's plenty of examples of F2P games that have reasonable monetization in the form of mtx.

Yeah kinda my take.

I would've been fine with RDR2 being a bit shorter, frankly, I was kinda dragging along by the end.

What 'whirlwind of changes' has happened to Destiny 2?

Maybe I'll actually consider playing it again if it's major enough.

I doubt it, just from this article, because most of my issues were with the monetization and 'running destiny 2 like a business' doesn't make me expect they'll fix my issues with it lol

I don't really think it's ever been a Pokemon knockoff in anything but the monster designs. And they're not going to change all of those, so.. it's just as a much a Pokemon knockoff as it's always been.

What wattage is the PSU?

You could try taking the GPU out entirely and see if it gets anywhere. If it runs fine without the GPU it's probably wanting way more power than your PSU can provide. I doubt that's the issue for various reasons, but it's a possibility.

Just checking the obvious- you're streaming a window, right, and not a screen? Discord streams only have audio if you pick a single window to share, afaik.

There's definitely memorization, but there's just a ton of tricks that aren't explicitly memorizing the images themselves.

They can sometimes narrow down the area based on the car that's taking the images, or how wide the lens is. As a made up example, if they see a red toyota corolla is the car taking the photos- which they can tell based on the mirrors appearing- they know it's specifically mainland Malaysia.

Very small context based clues a lot of the time.

Even with mafia infiltration of American prisons, it was usually only done to increase the quality of life for mafia affiliated peoplein prison as it would be too risky to try to break them out and get three attention of the public.

Yep, which is why you get scenes in mafia movies where some dudes go to prison and while they're inside they get steak and lobster every day and stuff like that. Like in The Goodfellas.

That title is wild. Good video, though. I watched this one before I saw it on Lemmy- I get notifications every six months when Ahoy uploads.

Either option is viable. Depends on the question. Usually things are either downvoted because it's too stupid to be a legitimate question and it's clearly just someone being inflammatory, or it's a question that, while arguably stupid, doesn't really fit with the idea of the community.

"What are your thoughts on photosynthesis" is a post that's -2 right now. It's probably getting downvoted because it's just a fucking question. It's kinda stupid, but only in the sense that I have no clue what they're wanting to hear about photosynthesis. It doesn't fit the community. Goddamnit I still instinctively type subreddit. It would work better for a general discussion community.

Sometimes there's a rare question that's actually incredibly stupid and clearly not someone trolling, but they give zero further information. Like "Could time start moving faster due to climate change?" How do you answer something like that without knowing how the hell they came to that conclusion? "No." isn't exactly a satisfying response, but it's pretty much the only one you've got.

Hell, your question isn't a particularly great example of a 'no stupid questions' question. It's really more of a shower thought.

What's a moderate Nazi even look like? I think if you even slightly deserve the term 'Nazi' you're so far past anything considered moderate it's absurd.

Well, you're not like any conservative I've ever spoken with. At least not in the America sense of the word- maybe it's different in a European context.

I tend to drop basically every political topic with anyone that actually identifies themselves that way. In my experience that is not going to lead to any kind of pleasant conversation or debate so I just don't engage.

"Non-hateful conservative" basically reads like an oxymoron to me.

Just toss some stuff you enjoy together. It's not like you only ever get one- I've had a few over the years.

Mine is just a combo of two mythological figures that also have to do with stars/outer space. I like Sci-Fi, and I like mythologies.

Starfield had a lot of issues, and the mid asf performance was a relatively minor one.

75hz here. I thought it was pretty weird. It's basically extra spicy 60hz.

Installed, I love all the themes! Thanks!

FWIW, sometimes I can fix this by just unsubbing and resubbing. I think it only really happens to me with lemmy.ml, and from my understanding their servers are held together with duct tape and prayers so that's probably why.

Agreed completely. I have an S23 rn, but my previous phone was a mid-tier android with a fingerprint reader on the back. My natural resting grip on my phone would just unlock the thing. It was amazing. My current phone is a clear upgrade in every way except the fingerprint reader. My new one has it in the screen and I fuckin hate it.

That's fair. In the UK if you wanna see some old stuff you can just.. go see some old stuff.

Meanwhile my entire town(and actually the majority of the state lol) barring like three houses was burned quite literally to the ground during the civil war so nothing predates that.
