Recent developments are just another indication of the power struggle happening between Reddit and its most dedicated users. Reddit needs free content and moderation to exist, yet it doesn't want to give those critical players real control of site policies, even though they are largely responsible for much of the site's content and value.

Finally an article that goes a little further in details about how important good mods are for reddit.

Meta is just a shell of its former self these days. I went back a few times recently and I shit you not : 3 out of 4 posts on my feed are sponsored or suggested content. Almost nothing of my friends, it's just full of garbage people are trying to sell, or clickbait videos.

From the Post article :

A proponent of uncooked herbivorous fare, the Kasan native claimed she ate a “completely raw vegan diet” for the last four years, consuming just “fruits, sunflower seed sprouts, fruit smoothies, and juices.”

What kills me is that those are red states, which means some of those pro-choice voters are okay voting for pro-birthers come election time and then go all pikachu face when their rights are taken from them.

ADHD can often mean poor impulse control, bad sleep and a difficulty planning proper meals. All that combined with a lack of exercise tends to make ADHD people more likely to be overweight or obese than the general population.

It seems the crux of the issue is that current technology uses pharma-grade growing medium, which is very expensive and has a bigger footprint, and the hope is that scientists can figure out a "food-grade" medium that would have lower emissions. Since costs are also affected, I'm sure companies have a lot of incentive to look for a more efficient way.

The technology is still relatively young, so I'm on the board of "wait and see".

Personally I was getting a bit tired of not having one of my interests here so I created the magazine for it. We'll just see if it takes off.
For some other niche interests...I'll wait and see, I don't feel invested enough to create the magazines for them.

Did you change your avatar just for this comment?

I thought r/nottheonion had made the jump to the fediverse

Yes but I think many people don't know it exists and how to use it. For those who don't know : rotate your phone and a little rotating phone will appear next to your "go back" button. Just click it.

I'm the opposite : I eat maggots without any issues but the crickets weird me out.

Thank you! It seems it's finally working!

Yeah I feel I have to do the same. I also created a community for my niche hobby and I found I have to be a bit more of a poster than I used to be, even if it means that for now the magazine is mostly me and pics of my garden.

Same, I had to create own magazine for my niche hobby, and I've been posting in it to encourage activity, much more than I used to post.

Hey I created a Vegetable Gardening magazine on kbin but it's apparently hard to find from Lemmy. You can type the url this way to find it :

I, for one, am looking forward to the zombie apocalypse that will result from this.

Yeah, I first took a look at lemmy and others a few weeks ago, when everyone was asking "what's an alternative?" and at the time, despite so many people talking about the fediverse, there weren't that many people or threads. And now look how active some communities are becoming!

Let's say the office worker who is 27 internationally today was born in December 1995. He was 1 at his birth, turned 2 in January 1996 (Korean age). In January 2023 he turned 29 and will turn 30 in January 2024, but internationally he'll turn 28 in December 2023.
