Although he stayed at a hotel under police protection during this time, Kurtaj still managed to carry out an attack on Rockstar Games by using the room’s included Amazon Fire Stick and a “newly purchased smart phone, keyboard and mouse

Lol. If this was in the plot of a movie, I would say that this is implausible.

In Europe, we changed to the Euro not that long ago. I was a student and I used to use a shared laundry machine. It was the day before returning to school. I was barely alone in the dorms. Let's do a laundry !

The machines were updated to get euros. There was another machine just to change the coins, especially since the washing machines only took one kind of coin (20 cents).

I put one fresh euro in the exchange machine, expecting to get 5 coins of 20 cents.

Tching. Tching. Tching. Tching. Tching. ... Tching. Tching. Tching. Tching. Tching. ... Tching. Tching. Tching. Tching. Tching. ...

What ?! The machine was buggy and would not stop. I grabbed a hoodie to put the coins in it. Soon, it was not enough. After what seems to be an eternity I was there with around 50€ and kilos of coins.

The novelty was the story in FPS. Before Half Life, all you have to do is to shoot every moving sprite and grab keys to open doors. The story was a splash screen between the levels.

Nowadays it doesn't look special to have a story. When I first played Half Life, my mind was blown away.

LAN parties. I remember the first time I could connect two PC together. It was Doom, with a serial-to-serial cable. We were two players on the same fucking map. It was awesome!

Then coax cable networks with friends. We used to have two or three different networks during a LAN party since you could not disconnect the coax cable to add a player without stopping the current games. The players arrived later would plug a new network just for them, and launch a game waiting the first players to finish theirs.

What a shitty present!

That's a great idea to have these comments for the posterity.
To my lawyer in the future :

"Everything I could have wrote in reddit about pirating was a lie to get upvotes. Don't take any of it seriously."

Now you need to change the names and make these new names famous, since that's the thing that the company has really bought. The brand.

Yes. It breaks points.

There are multiple French websites that do this. It is legal (otherwise these websites would not do this anymore, it's been a while).
There is a popup asking you if you consent to get cookies (for advertisement). If you say "no", it leads you to another popup with two choices :

  • Change your decision and accept cookies
  • Pay for a premium service without advertisements

Glues for ceramic are epoxy resin.

The thing is, harmful apps are now difficult to detect compared to years ago. The hackers prefer to get the control of your device without ruining it.

Well. That's a joke. The current icon is ugly but it's for the /r/Place event.

Thanks ! You're one of the best admin !

There are small subreddits that are definitively private now. But only very small ones.

It would not be the first time that a second game from one successful developer will never come to life. I wish that I am wrong.

That's... expensive ? The last car I bought new was 17.000€ (12 years ago, a Citroën Berlingo).

The model 3 in Europe is 43.000€.

No, that's not that clear for the moment.

Let me explain the French case :

  • Webedia is a big company that owns most of the famous French websites (jeuxvideo.com , etc.). All these websites have cookie walls with an alternative : a paid subsription. What they say, is that the website is now accessible with subscription only. However, if you accept cookies, you'll get a discount (free access).
  • The CNIL (a big French governemental entity) tried to forbid this. If someone reports a website, it's for this entity to take action. There is no need to report Webedia, the CNIL knows already :-)
  • The Conseil d'Etat (juridical entity of the French gov) said that "non", it's OK for Webedia to use such paywalls. The CNIL can't forbid Webedia to use them.
  • The CNIL asked the jusrists at the European level... here we are. We still don't know.

Here is a French website where the CNIL explains this :

My spouse is now mocking me because I giggled in front of a picture of ingredients. "Ooooh funny... ingredients.... oh .. oh .. oh..."

Mario Kart Wii (others versions too maybe) has a music with more and more instruments. The more you configure your kart, the more instruments are playing. It's a nice warmup.

1 Tb of source code ?! Is this really this long or are there all the assets too (musics, textures, 3D models...) ?

This is a full book and not just the cover for fun and giggles!

In The Stray Shopping Carts of Eastern North America author Julian Montague has created an elaborate classification system of abandoned shopping carts, accompanied by photographic documentation of actual stray cart sightings. These sightings include bucolically littered locations such as the Niagara River Gorge (where many a cart has been pushed to its untimely death) and mundane settings that look suspiciously like a suburb near you.

Working in the naturalist's tradition, the photographs depict the diversity of the phenomenon and carry a surprising emotional charge; readers inevitably begin to see these carts as human, at times poignant in their abandoned, decrepit state, hilariously incapacitated, or ingeniously co-opted. The result is at once rigorous and absurd, enabling the layperson to identify and classify their own cart spottings based on the situation in which they were found.

And Barbie. What a spin-off !

My kids don't have a phone number and I would be glad we could use Signal.

And that sounds like a much lower quality car.

It's way more practical than a Tesla. Whatever, the Berlingo model now starts at 39.000€ (EV only). That's twice the price I bought mine. My salary has not doubled in 10 years.

The price of these cars gets me depressed.

"When the Reddit admins figured out that a large portion of the site is now bots"

In foreign languages like in French, there was a trend, launched by the admins themselves. It was to replicate English communities by translating the posts. It was obvious that it was dumb automated translations since there were cultural references that could not be translated. I know it because I was the owner of such a community and it was sad. My small community had a spirit. After the bots, the community was bland.

When you think about it with 3 instances, it's fun and strange.

Imagine 3 instances. lemmy.world / beehaw.org / lemmy.dbzer0.com.
Now call them A, B and C.

Now A and B defederates.
Accounts on A can't see content published on B anymore. And can't publish on these "forums" (communities/magazines...)
And accounts on B can't see content published on A anymore. And can't publish on these forums.

However, an account on C can see everything and publish anywhere !

You should consider your account as a passport. The instance/country delivering you the passport is important, since it gives you permissions/visas. If everyone in your instance is behaving like shit, your instance will be defederated and you'll loose permissions/visas to be able to browse other instances.

From my point of view : it has a hudge ecosystem with tons of robust libraries. This does not make it perfect, but for an industrial point of view, you don't look for new shiny clean things. (My point of view is 15 years old yet...)

I played Quake 2 on the Oculus Quest and it was the best VR experience I had. The port is perfect. It's like the dream of my younger self since it was my favourite game then.

It's how he speaks. I am a foreigner and when he first came at the head of the USA, the journalists didn't know how to translate his speaches. Usually, the sentences have one meaning that you can translate into one sentence, thanks to the context. With him, it's a couple of sentences with no link and the last sentences have absolutely no context. You just can't translate this.

I love the musics. After finishing the game, I played the main theme in my car again and again and again.

For me it's any Point and Click games. Nothing seems obvious.

And Reddit killed phpBB (kind of).
And phpBB killed the newsgroups.
Etc.

You are right. Convenience killed the previous "protocol".

The first days are indeed really short. You have to upgrade your tools and your player to have days long enough to explore. It is still a limiting factor for big explorations. You have to pack your stuff. I can understand that it can be unfun.

I live in France and there are lots of brands that are exactly like Nutella, or even more tasty. Nutella is cheaper yet.

This post aged like good sine.
