Cleopatra was born closer to the invention of cellphones than the building of the pyramids

I think the infinite growth part is a big part of the problem: "Growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of the cancer cell"

Primer or really any good time travel movie. For Primer, you pretty much have to re-watch out to make sense of what is going on. Highly recommended though!

There's a French idiom for this: "Avoir l'Esprit d'Escalier" which means "The Wisdom of the Staircase". Basically, you often think of the best thing to say after you left and are walking down the staircase.

Just the ability to fall asleep instantly would be a godsend

OK, well I guess if water isn't allowed at all then I'll have to go with the Dehydrated Water canister from Space Quest 1

Most people around us usually get it so isn't really a "secret" language, but my wife and I are big Simpsons fans so we talk in quotes all the time.

One that gets a lot of play is "I'm going... to... stalk... Lenny and Carl" for when we're going somewhere but really sure what we're going to do

Snowpiercer! Great movie by the same director as Parasite

Yep we use placemats in our house. It was the first chore we ever gave to my daughter - to gather up the placemats after dinner and put them away in the drawer. I'm 37 by the way.

The Paradox of Tolerance in a nutshell...

Does anyone remember Voat? Man, that place went downhill real fast.

Or you could - oh, I don't know - read the article you are commenting on... it says he was a test operator and not a programmer.

Steam says Borderlands 2, but I must've accidently left it running or somethingbecause I definitely haven't played it that much.

Next would be Sunless Seas and Frostpunk at around 200 hours which sounds about right.

I have my own little pet theory about Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. I think Sisko accidently created the wormhole aliens.

In the pilot, they don't appear until his second trip through the wormhole. So my theory is that there was some kind of biological matter on their Runabout and, since they exist outside of time, it evolved instantly and they suddenly existed throughout all time. That is why they chose him as their prophet - he was kind of their father.

This is not really relevant to the discussion at hand (and think your comments are spot on) but you keep using "WILDCATS" in reference to militias... unless there's a different reference that I don't know about, I think you mean the "WOLVERINES". That was the name of the militia formed by kids in Red Dawn (it was their sports team name if I recall correctly)

This is pretty niche, but if you've watched Summoning Salt and are looking for something similar, check out OneShortEye:

He does something similar for the world of speedrunning old LucasArts/Sierra adventure games. Highly recommended!

It definitely would make a good Black Mirror episode. My problem is the ending sequence is so brutal and off putting that I find it hard to rewatch for recommend to others.

It was neat to recognize the actor who played Hector Salamanca in it though as the professor. That guy has awesome range!

Amen to that. Caffeine is life!

I gotta go with Primer because it pretty much is necessary to re-watch it multiple times to understand what is going on.

Same here. I actually had just posted to Lemmy that I was still browsing reddit through Joey but then checked and got the message it had veen shut down

RIP Joey

Yeah, I get this too kinda. I find I get really vivid dreams when wake up but fall back asleep

Which one though? There's the David Lynch version, the Sci Fi mini series, and the most recent adaptation. They all have their pros/cons, but I honestly prefer the Sci Fi mini series. It's lower budget than the movies, but I think they did a great job at adapting the source material.

For sure, it just immediately reminded me of the Simpsons like you said:

"Who are we?" "THE WILDCATS!" "Who are we going to beat?" "THE WILDCATS!"

For sure, the person in that video (Shays Moss) is one of people mentioned in the article who is suing Giuliani.

Isn't treason only in times of war? I think that's why they are being accused of sedition instead. I suppose that's kind of a minor point regardless since I think the only major difference between treason and sedition is the wartime distinction.

I'll always have a soft spot for the old Sierra games because they were the first adventure games I played, but I think I'd recommend the old LucasArts games to new players nowadays. The LucasArts games were just better designed - they don't have fail states and you can't unexpectedly die so you are more free to explore.

My recommendation would be to check out "Day of the Tentacle". In my opinion it is the best example of point and click games. I don't know about Linux compatibility but it recently had a re release so I think it should work.

Trazadone works really well. The only drawback I find his if I need to use the bathroom during the night (getting older sucks) - makes me feel really unsteady kind of like I'm drunk.

"Just because you fear the dark does not make the light your friend."

-Sunless Skies

+1 for Mad Max: Fury Road. It's such a great movie! I've put it on multiple times thinking I just want to re-watch one scene and it just sucks me in.

Indigo Prophecy was definitely a fun experience, but it has more quick time events than actual puzzles. Still worth a look if you are looking for a good story (although it got rushed in the end so the finale isn't great)

That's the SECOND biggest monkey head I've ever seen!

I hear great things about Jellyfin, but I'm in the Plex camp too. The availability of the Plex app is a big factor. I'm a bit biased in that I bought a lifetime membership years ago so I get all the premium features as well. I believe they still offer deals on plex lifetime membership from time to time. It is really worth it!

Equilibrium is definitely a fun movie, but it's hard to avoid the fact that the Matrix does it better.

I remember it had a "Forget the Matrix!" quote on the cover, but when I saw it on a rental store shelf many years ago someone had put a store sticker on it so it just read "get the Matrix!"

That's amazing! I always wished there was a pill or something that could give me amnesia for a fee hours so I could enjoy something for the first time again.

Oh for sure. Nobody can get as weird as Lynch though 😛

What you say?

I'm here from using Joey for Reddit. I'm surprised it seems like it wasn't as popular as the other third party apps. It was great for me
