Every Mark Rober video is now an ad. They're also loud and obnoxious, so I've stopped watching them.

I've actually never watched a Mr Beast video. They never came up in my feed.

So ping-pong is an euphemism for sex? Or was he literally playing ping-pong?

Even if this might sound crazy to some, it doesn't sure me at all. Industries are not upgrading systems just for fun. It's only done when it is absolutely necessary.

I've worked with systems running in windows 95. On laptops so old they didn't have USB. The only way to transfer new files to it was to use serial link (we didn't have floppy drives). What did that ancient computer do? Communicate with subsea control systems for oil wells.

The whole issue here is that people fall for the trick of buying the cheapest printer available, that is clearly way cheaper than what it costs to build. Then people get cranky for having to buy these proprietary cartridges which are way overpriced to cover the cost of the printer.

The easiest solution is to buy a laser printer (unless you need photo finish on your prints). It's a higher initial cost, but it never dries out. Would it cost me more that an ink printer in the long run? Maybe, but with my infrequent printing, i wouldn't have to replace dried out cartridges every year.

I'm privileged to have a boss not caring where we work from, but i prefer to come into the office once in a while because of my social needs. It's depressing to stay home day after day, but it's more productive.

I love Lemmy. It's just like reddit from when I joined in 2012. With Sync for Lemmy, it's easy to use as well

Did you know that arachnids' legs are hydraulicly controlled? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arachnid_locomotion

The reason for this could be that people who are smart enough to write something comprehensible is most likely not going to do so because of the risk of getting comments from brain dumping people. Social media has given everyone a megaphone - even the dumbest individuals. They keep pouring their stupidity onto the internet for everyone to see.

Damn, that's depressing. But considering the pandas sense of self preservation, it makes total sense.

If you use Sync for Lemmy, you can add filters that removes certain topics of your choosing.

I love the phrase "This is not a crack house, it's a crack HOME"

Because journalists aren't aeronerds.

I used to work in a store selling electronics - like Best Buy (but a foreign distant cousin). It amazed me that so many people were technically challenged.

I always had to assume that the individual I was helping was an idiot, because I had been dumbfounded way to many times.

Holy fuck, i just sprayed coffee on my screen.

Artificial Intelligence is a bad word for this technology. Why are we not using the proper name for it? Machine Learning. Its not intelligent, and it might not be for a long time. Feed it crap, and you'll receive crap.

Trump being on the ruzzian payroll is not a secret. He's a puppet.

When he was elected (with the help of russia), he was brougt into a dark smoke filled room that smelled like sigarettes and cheap vodka, with a dosen men was sitting behind their desks. He couldn't see any faces. No words said before Trump said: "what's my agenda?"

And your pets are most likely to die before you do.

I came as far as asking: is it an oven 👍 Then: is it a stove 👎 Then wtf is it???

I never in my life have considered a microwave to be an oven, but obviously it is. I've never had one, so I have limited experience with it.

It makes more economic sense to improve the rails we already have, and build faster trains to run on the existing rails (like the TGV), than building completely new infrastructure.

Christmas is largely a pagan tradition that was turned into a christian tradition to make it easier to convert them to christianity.

The christmas tree is not a christian tradition. Santa is not a christian tradition. Nothing really is, except for Jesus allegedly being born on the exact date when the pagans celebrated "Jolablot" or the midwinter fest.

There was this pizza store nearby that had insanely cheap pizza. It costed less than half of their competitors. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad. The price made me think it wasn't a legitimate business.

Yeah, well, I have to disagree with you on this one.

A few years after I met my wife, we had to sell her apartment so we could move to another city together for jobs. We tried to be cheap and sell the place ourselves to save money. We teamed up with a lawyer that specialised on selling real estates privately. We had a few viewings, but people were hesitant to bidding. We got a lot of questions about why we didn't use an agent.

After a few weeks, we contacted a real estate agent, and sold the place after just one viewing for a better price even after paying the agent fee.

I think it is important to leave the job to professionals when selling thing with high risk and high value.

I currently drive a BMW i3 (BEV). Best car I've ever owned.

I bought an Aeropress a few years ago and absolutely love it. Then I realised that my cheap grinder wasn't all that great, so I bougt a $400 grinder. My quality of life is at its peak right now.

I'm 42, and can drive manual, but I've had an automatic the last 5 years.

My son is now learning to drive, but he will most likely not need to drive a manual ever.

The Hacked podcast actually talked about this on the last episode

Why?

My last car was a 2005 VW Golf 1.6 manual. It was a fun little car. It looked like trash, and i treated it like trash. We had many fun adventures together.

I went over to an EV after being tired of paying a fortune in petrol. My current car is a BMW i3, and i LOVE it. It's rear wheel drive, cheap to run and cheap to service. I live close to the arctic circle, so it's snowy about 5 months of the year, and this little thing with its skinny wheels is superb on winter roads.

Looking back, i don't miss driving manual. Driving an EV is completely noiseless and calm. No fiddling with the stick, no clutching, just pure pleasure. The rear wheel drive makes it equally fun to drive, and skidding around in the winter is really fun.

You must be fun at parties 😄

Was this in North Korea by any chance? It sure sounds like it.

Not sure if this means good or great.

I got some chineese chocolate from a colleague, and it was a plastic wrapped paper box wih 10 smaller boxes on the inside. These smaller boxes were an orb shaped chocolate wrapped in aluminium foil, wrapped in a small plastic bag.

GoGo Penguin is a jazzy trio from the UK that makes midern jazz that is really engaging. I'm really a progmetalhead, but this band is ficking epic.

Bersarin Quartett is another band that I love. It's is a bit tough to get into, but it's really rewarding if you like slowish dreamy complex music. All song titles are in German, but luckily there's no lyrics.

You mean this? https://xkcd.com/1361

Or square root of -1

Yeah, but it can also be a type of radio wave

I had the HTC Desire Z back in the day, with a full qwerty keyboard underneath the screen. It was awesome to write on, but it lacked performance.

I agree. Because of this, I actually changed carrier to one that was cheaper, had better coverage and free eSIM.
