I gave up Reddit 100% the day the blackout started, so by default… yes. Way more time on Lemmy. As someone that isn’t on these sites that much of the time, I like Lemmy way better since I can actually contribute and have conversations. On Reddit I’m only ever replying to a post once there are a thousand replies already and it’s always buried. Here it’s much easier to chat.

I was thinking about setting up an instance to help me learn some more development stuff and practice my Terraform use, or maybe build an iOS app to learn Swift in my spare time… but I don’t really have spare time, so those things have a 99.9% chance of not happening haha.

It’s what all public companies do. Once your company is public, it is somewhat your duty to raise profits every year forever and ever to make your investors money and to attract investors. It sucks, but that’s how the market works.

People are still people, man. If they have the money maybe they should pay back the rescue efforts if found alive (which won’t happen), but it kinda sucks to say “welp bye” and let half a dozen people slowly die if you could’ve helped.

I think they're more just pointing out how this ruling isn't fair because of the fact that it doesn't go both ways.

If your 401k, Roth IRA, and Traditional IRA are all maxed out… A) great job! and B) put it into a regular investment account (not recommending Robinhood, but that’s the easiest example). There’s no max on that.

I think we are already seeing price increases on many games that are starting at $70 (USD) these days. I don’t think we’ll see another increase for quite a while.

Thanks for your follow up comment because this post is more like a YSK: You Should Learn How to Budget From Somewhere But Not This Post

Burn it before it gains sentience

If you addressed this in the post and I suck and missed it, sorry! But I’d love to test your app out on iOS when available. Thank you :)

Cheers to that!

I personally would be a paying subscriber to Apollo right now if Reddit had announced they were going to charge a reasonable amount of money for the API. I totally understand how a massive website like that and all the servers and storage required must have cost a fortune. Paying to avoid ads is cool with me… cutting off my access to the best way to use Reddit is not.

I use Apple music. It may not have all the indie artists of Bandcamp or whatever, but it’s super convenient, it has all the music I need, and it works so smoothly within the Apple ecosystem. Every device I have can share my account and pickup where another device left off. Plus the family account works great where everyone in my family can have their own account while there’s only one payment per month.

These are the two I’m trying! Need to use the web browser for most features, though.

I was 100% for Lemur, but Beyond is an excellent name. It's slightly grandiose but vague. Like I always thought "Apollo" was a great name. It's a cool word and it doesn't really mean anything in the context.

Please, however you name this app, don't call it "X for Lemmy". Just call it Beyond. Or just Lemur, or whatever. I hate when all these devs triple the length of their app name by adding "for Reddit" or whatever at the end.

Not OP, but an IDE is the app you use when actually typing in your code. Like, every language could probably be typed up in Microsoft’s Notepad, but that would be awful! Other “editors” have color coding that make your code MUCH easier to follow. And, you know, dark mode.

VS Code, as raccoon mentioned, is my go-to. It’s free, and there are free plugins that color code any language you want to learn and help autocomplete stuff and other helpful things.

I definitely feel this way, all the time. Overcome it? I’ve never overcome seeing the problems and being frustrated, but I guess I did overcome the feelings that made me never want to create again. Creating makes me feel calm and good. If I look back later I’ll be disappointed, but that doesn’t change how that creative outlet helped me mentally at the time.

Keep going! We all suck in our own eyes more often than not, but it sure does feel good in the moment.

Yeah this one is surprisingly good. My only issue, which is a deal breaker, is that I can’t swipe from left edge to right to go back to the posts feed after clicking on a specific post. The back button is at the furthest possible placement from my thumb, so it’s just not that useable.

Guess it was my phone getting buggy at the time. This functions normal :)

I love the name Daft Coke haha

I would loooove if we could get top down Zelda games occasionally between BotW-style games. Like how we get 2D and 3D Mario games. I definitely don’t need an Ocarina of Time type of Zelda anymore though. That version aged and doesn’t hold up very well anymore IMO.

I feel like if there was a way to dampen sounds that well then military submarines would have adopted it long ago. No idea though.

I have to agree with the other comment… it’s not a quantity thing. Sony’s first party games have just been a far higher quality than Microsoft’s for a while. I can’t think of many Must Have Xbox games, but all the big exclusive games Sony releases are top of the chart must have games.

For some reason I was just thinking about DKR yesterday. I would love another one! I had way more fun with it than MK due to the story mode and open world.

I think it’s assumed because Bethesda sucks at making games that aren’t riddled with bugs that will never ever be patched out

Aw man, day jobs are the worst

…seriously? It changed cell phones. It changed the world, honestly. If you don’t like the OS and the price, that I completely understand. But saying a device that changed the world is overhyped, I mean… what do you think it was hyped to do and didn’t follow through on?

Ah, thanks for finding the HomeKit community!

You were unaware? Shoot, Lemmy has like 1/100,000th the user base of Reddit. Of course the vast majority of the public has no clue. I searched Google and Reddit for a Reddit alternative on and off for months before finally hearing about Lemmy two weeks ago maybe?

Eh, I don’t think so. I don’t play PC games so they weren’t on my mind, and I wouldn’t consider PCs games in the console wars discussion anyway. Could be wrong but could you give some examples of major must have Xbox exclusives?
