If you liked "Florida Man", you're gonna love "Florida Woman"

The best part is the UN charter clearly states that when a country is attacked, it has aright to self defense. Let's watch Israel talk their way around that as they vindicate Iran and incriminate themselves.

The concern is that suddenly Meta will make up the biggest part of the Fediverse and exert too much power as a company, which they don't have a good record for, over the non-corporate Fediverse. Historically this would allow them to "embrace, extend, extinguish" the Fediverse that many love and have spent years building.

One need not pretend something that is already factually accurate. This was a retaliation and direct response for Israel bombing Iran's consulate in Syria on April 1. This is why Iran targeted and struck the Negev air force base ( which contains US F-35s used to bomb Gaza ) as that is the base from which that attack originated. This is also why Iran says it now considers the matter "concluded" and warned the US and Israel against further reprisals. Those are facts and not "pretending" so if you are going to "pretend" this isn't true and try to distort the matter I'm not interested.

One advantage over wordpress is that it avoids bringing its parent company, Automatic, into the Fediverse.

From Wikipedia:

In February 2024, Automattic announced that it would begin selling user data from Tumblr and WordPress to Midjourney and OpenAI.

The article calls the allegations agains UNRWA "explosive" yet they are completely unconfirmed . WME was once the agency of Charlie Chaplin who sympathetically depicted immigrants and refugees and was forced into exile by Washington during the McCarthy era witch hunts. If they currently find it controversial for one of their clients to share a fundraiser for people in need, they are allowing those same cycles to repeat and it may be time to find a new agency.

A better example of a pogrom might be the killing of over 30,000 civilian Palestinians and simultaneously starving them to death with blockade following 75 years of occupation and a century of colonialism. Proportionality matters and it doesn't favor your argument

“Betrayed by this town / Let’s burn it all down “ might be the most relevant chorus of today’s music. It’ll be stuck in my head all night and would fit right in at most protests

It’s all worth it if it means having this image grace the Fediverse.

It was always open to people, never to corporations. There's a big difference between the two.

It was inevitable that there would be corporate interest especially as we pose an alternative and potential threat to their market share but never that people on the Fediverse, many of whom came here to escape the spam, hate, and corporate control of places like Facebook would embrace this. Nobody is shocked by this.

The admins of the Mastodon instance I've been on, Kolektiva, already announced they won't be federating with "Threads" as it was Zuckerberg's censorship that lead them to create their instance as an alternative. Many others are doing the same as they did when Trump created his instance that ended up in a closed loop. Those type of controls built into most parts of the Fediverse are certainly a strength. It's not simply about living in "bliss" but about protecting what's been built largely by volunteers over years. Data gathering would definitely be a threat if Meta was allowed in.

The history of corporate involvement in open-sourced space has been antagonistic and threatening. People have reason not to trust Meta and many have joined here long ago to get away from it so these these are valid concerns being articulated by much of the Fediverse and it'll be interesting to see what comes next to say the least.

There was never any lag in service. I'm on that instance. I believe the person was raided due to their activism and had a backup of some data but not the actual server. They made an announcement and told people to change their passwords. Many lost a degree of trust but are being as transparent as possible with members. https://kolektiva.social/@admin/110637031574056150

You’re grasping at straws to try to invalidate me instead of saying anything that would back up your point making your argument weaker. There was no repetition from me so if you’ve heard this before it would seem you’ve had this discussion before and may benefit from listening. Perhaps you shouldn’t respond if you have nothing to say

Thank you. And those are only the confirmed dead. There are thousands more missing and presumably dead under the rubble.

I'm from Boston and this is painfully accurate. Especially the last line. My last job was a delivery job and me and the other person were constantly questioning if it was one lane or two.

This is what it redirects to if it seems safer: https://šime.eu/3

Thank you, that's an important distinction. I hope they can be trusted to live up to that. However it still feels l pretty problematic to bring them in and would be a lot of opting in to debate and implement. It remains a pretty big violation of user privacy and trust and it says here:

As if that weren't bad enough, preparations for the sale went poorly, and it seems large categories of Tumblr posts that weren't supposed to be sold were added to the mix anyway. That data includes:

Private posts from public accounts

Posts on deleted or suspended accounts

Unanswered asks

Private answers

Explicit posts

Posts from partner accounts, like ad campaigns where Tumblr doesn't own the rights. (Apple is specifically named here.)

And that he lived for so long

Looking forward to seeing them for the first time in September

It's content that Reddit users generated which apparently is theirs to sell.

Welcome!

I wondered this too but I think it’s fairly simple. It looks like you head over to the community you want to post in and then you’ll see a menu in the top right with the option to post and other choices. It seems a little more intuitive in the mobile browser but that should work

I’m so confused. I thought I was going to read about how awful the new Meta app is but it suddenly turned into a review of the 80s docu-horror film Threads about a fictional nuclear bomb dropping in England

"attracting" companies like Intel that are on the BDS boycott list is not really a good look for Linux.

You can interact with Lemmy posts from Mastodon but I'm not sure about Mastodon from Lemmy. if you enter your name @DonDino@mujico.org in your Mastodon search bar you will have federated your Lemmy and Mastodon instances and you will be able to view a copy of your Lemmy posts and discussions on Mastodon and other Masto users who are federated with you can see these and boost or reply as well. It's also helpful to enter the handle of the Lemmy community you'd like to view in the Mastodon search bar ( asklemmy@lemmy.ml for this community specifically ) and you can follow Lemmy discussion for specific communities there and boost them to share to your Mastodon followers.

Sorry if I misunderstood. Unfortunately I don't believe the opposite is possible so you won't be able to see Mastodon posts in your Lemmy feed the way you can see Kbin posts. Maybe someone else has a more useful answer.

I follow my own Lemmy account with the address steveklord@slrpnk.net on Mastodon and I believe I've followed other users as well so I do believe it's possible.

Thanks for sharing. Grew up listening to MDC and have followed The Hallucination since they were "A Tribe Called Red" so this is cool to see.

I’m on a small pixelfed instance as well and the global feed can be useful for discovering users on other pixelfed instances and also for viewing mastodon posts with pictures. Similar to mastodon it will expand as you follow more people so keep an eye on it and maybe use your mastodon account to find more photographers using hashtags like #photography. Your discover page should show photos under trending hashtags as well so check for that and use search under hashtags. It does show local trending photos accounts at the moment, you’re correct. Dansup, the pixelfed developer, says in the next update for the beta app which is shipping soon and going public soon, the discover page will be expanding to show trending users and photos from across the fediverse.

The official apps for Android & iOS are getting ready to be released for Beta testing very soon. I’m not sure but there may be a FOSS third party app out for Android already

The US actually admitted it hasn't verified Israel's UNRWA claims . Therefore it is unconfirmed. The actual conspiracy theory is believing claims without evidence and further spreading them. It's unfortunate that you think the claims justify the collective punish of an entire people ( a war crime under the Geneva convention ) , an organization of thousands and an actress who shared a fundraiser for the people harmed by this misinformation.

So it’s user generated content that is a product for Reddit to sell, like most big tech companies do, as I said.

If you are posting on walled-garden big tech site like Reddit, Instagram, Twitter / X, the site and therefore the company certainly owns your content and all the metadata attributed to it. You're the product. This is why most of us are here on the Fediverse where things are different. Maybe if it's your personal photo you took than you can make a copyright claim to some degree and download your data tediously but once it's on their network it's generally theirs to do as they please, whether that be sell to Google or any other advertiser or use on in-house advertising. Often without proper informed consent and not always legally. It's definitely a scam, I agree. Hopefully this exposes it more and brings more people to places on the Fediverse where there's no owner/seller/buyer of your data or anything else you contributed.

Try replacing the batteries. That's often the reason for this type of thing.
